  1. I forgot the thread title and only read the first, second, and third posts one after the other. I then laughed out loud.
  2. I have 2 you can have as well, but I may not be the closest.
  3. Some people only call the ones with stripes "candy canes" and the others "trumpets"
  4. Using silicone not silicone grease like mentioned above in a bead all the way around the hole and then seating the bulkhead before the silicone dries has worked for me in the past. The gasket that comes with the bulkhead does not bond to the glass or the bulkhead and it still works fine. The silicone does not need to "bond" to work like this. The silicone fills in the imperfections of the glass and essentially makes a custom gasket. Not ideal and I too would use this as a last resort, only if the bulkhead could not be reversed and of course check, check, and recheck, for leaks.
  5. +1 on the silicone bead if reversing the flange is not an option.
  6. Another thought for controlling skimmer depth in water is to place the skimmer on a stand to get it to the proper depth.
  7. I love it! I like that you get the extra viewing pane. My wife does not like the in wall design because she likes all 3 sides to view, but this may be a way to go and keep her happy. Thanks for sharing.
  8. The last time I did this I used a NEW dog "pooper scooper" shovel. It was bent at a 90 degree angle from the handle making it easy to reach into a deep tank and scoop out the sand. I saved the shop vac for just the little water and sand that I couldn't siphon or scoop out.
  9. Savko is great for black PVC.
  10. This was not a well controlled study and in fact was not a study at all it was an anecdotal observation that he reported. It sounds like one "Brute trash can" and no mention of testing other randomly selected cans or a control group. We have no way of knowing if that can became contaminated or what the real story here is. I was looking for a follow up study where he specifically tried to reproduce those results in a randomized well controlled study, but nothing yet. That said, it is at least worth making note of and being cautious.
  11. If you are not going to buy an RO/DI system at a minimum make sure you are buying and using RO/DI water from a reliable source.
  12. Absolutely beautiful! It looks like the plate corals are all lined up for the race.
  13. I have found Kelly to be a great resource for fish disease and wellness.
  14. How about this one from AVAST Marine? http://www.avastmarine.com/ssc/do/product/rigging/Top-off-Kit
  15. Holy scoly! Very nice indeed! Can't wait to see it when it has had time to grow some more.
  16. I think that is the new edition of Essentials of Baking he has there.
  17. If you decide on black PVC you can get it at www.savko.com
  18. Beautiful! I love the first one.
  19. I've bought them at home Depot. You will find them near the electronic wiring there.
  20. Try Kelli Jedlicki (PufferQueen) on the Marine Depot forums. She is one of the most knowledgeable people I have met regarding fish health and disease.
  21. Just to be clear, the Powerbrites are 1 Watt LED's and Reefbrites are 3 Watt Led's from 2 different set ups and from 2 different companies. I find this video impressive for a 24" version of the Reefbrite on this size tank.
  22. Those seem to use 1 Watt LED and the ReefBrite uses 3W running at just over 2 Watts. What exactly pushes you to the "Reefbrites are junk" conclusion. I'm just trying to understand the rationale for choosing one system over the other. Right now the higher wattage is appealing to me.
  23. I just looked at the Panorama from Ecoxotic and that would not work for me. I'm still going to run MH and I'm looking for supplemental actinic and I don't have room for that big Panorama fixture. The best I can do from Ecoxotic would be the Stunner strips.
  24. Can you elaborate? I am leaning toward the Reefbrite for the higher wattage (3W per LED). How does the Panorama compare?
  25. Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions. I'm leaning toward getting 2 of the 36" Reefbrite units.
