  1. Friends, I've been a member much longer than a vendor, but I think you may be trying to build something we already have. It's not whether it's a SWAP or a bank. It's the mindset behind it. When you share, that includes selling, your mindset has gone from "mine, my pretty" to a more sensible "This is a beautiful living animal. How can I ensure it's survival and growth". I include selling, as that 1) allows others to value appropriately the perceived rarity/desirability of the item, 2) gives more value to your time and effort, and 3) provides incentive for others to do so also. As an example, I am going to point to Chip/Flowerseller (Chip, hope you don't mind). Take the beautiful rose anemone. Look at what Chip has accomplished. How many of you either have (or have had) the rose clone or want one? He has let others value the rarity/desirability. He has been given compensation for his time and effort and love of the hobby. And the price has provided others a incentive to continuing to propogate the anemone. Chip has freely shown how to split these beautiful creatures. Many, including myself, propogate them. (WAMAS...give this role model an official recognition as, well, I vote for "Oustanding Role Model"!) So. I would suggest that just doing is all that is required. Frag it. Sell it. This gets more people fragging and sharing. You're happy. Everyones happy. BUT this "sharing" goes beyond just the livestock itself. It goes to sharing knowledge about best practices, what to do when disasters happen, being there when someone needs a broken part, going to help when someone is setting up a tank, or whatever. Ummn...notice something...you already have it. It's called WAMAS. So, I would suggest again. It's a mindset of just doing it, remembering why we're doing it, and having a great fun time doing it! (Yaa WAMAS!) Minimizing formal setups allows for more organic and fun growth for all. We WAMAS members, our tanks, and these forums are the aquarist bank. 2cents Nadir
  2. John, Fantastic growth since you won TOTM! Beautiful. Nadir
  3. Yaa! DC Reefers are still alive!!! :-) Nadir
  4. I was going to needle you with a joke about the thread...but decided against it..
  5. Windshield repair epoxies can fill the scratch in with some success. I have tried this on a section of a tank I have and it helps. Using a syringe, injected the epoxy into the scratch and the epoxy will fill the void. Needs UV curing.
  6. 5% water change if 10 gallons is your count (ok...4.76%) + over-kalked 5% @ 20 ph (?) ~ 10% change in pH? From 8.0 say to 9.0? If so, nice water change...check you salinity!
  7. Khanh, What is wonderful about your tank is that you have managed to keep it this way for an extended period of time...which requires enthusiasm, diligence, perseverance and a capacity to deal with Holy #$* emergencies Great work. Nice shots Chris! Nadir
  8. Ditto...is that wedding band-"width"??? OK...someone had to do it! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. NEWBIES NOTE! There are well documented methods for introducing vodka dosing to your tank. Don't just add vodka to your tank at the above rate. READ first!
  10. Rik, Crying with you... and feeling your pain (I have a nice big stash of dry coral) Nadir

  12. Chip, This sounds like a great idea...can you elaborate a bit more? Thanks, Nadir
  13. With your kind of bio-load, you should not have much detritus. What kind of detritus do you have? Algae? What is your flow rate into your sump? Is something being disturbed? As others have mentioned. Is this on-going or recent? What are your water changes? How long do you leave the filter sock in? How fine is the filter sock?
  14. So does your local supplier... :-)
  15. Keep in mind that everyone wants an excuse to take a dip in their fishtanks! Justin, now Bob...who's next! Bob...don't forget to turn off the metal halides! Nadir
  16. Bob, Very nice!!! Nadir
  17. Justin, Why titanium? versus say encased heater like the Visitherm Stealth (knock on wood, I have eight which have not had any failures yet). I'm not a fan of glass heaters. Nadir
  18. I've had Won's fritz on me more than others. Some will swear by them. Finnex, personally, seem like solid heaters. My favorites are the Visitherm Stealth heaters. I use multiple heaters so than any one heater will not jam on high and boil my tank out of existence! My two cents is to spread the risk by having multiple heaters where any one cannot increase your tank temperature so much that your tank fries. Nadir
  19. I'd laugh...but I've done so many things much more knuckleheaded to think that was even an issue. You're just providing nutrients for your corals...now see if the new skimmer skims it out!
  20. An endless supply of magaritas to go with Chip's salt!
  21. What drives me nuts is going on vacation and having a non-jumping favorite fish just missing (never to be found again)!
  22. Ummn...Chip...it looks great..nice passage...open space...but I don't see any anemones???
  23. Want to let everyone in on what you're smoking?
  24. Are you 100% sure it's an emerald crab?
