Friends, I've been a member much longer than a vendor, but I think you may be trying to build something we already have.
It's not whether it's a SWAP or a bank. It's the mindset behind it.
When you share, that includes selling, your mindset has gone from "mine, my pretty" to a more sensible "This is a beautiful living animal. How can I ensure it's survival and growth". I include selling, as that 1) allows others to value appropriately the perceived rarity/desirability of the item, 2) gives more value to your time and effort, and 3) provides incentive for others to do so also.
As an example, I am going to point to Chip/Flowerseller (Chip, hope you don't mind). Take the beautiful rose anemone. Look at what Chip has accomplished. How many of you either have (or have had) the rose clone or want one? He has let others value the rarity/desirability. He has been given compensation for his time and effort and love of the hobby. And the price has provided others a incentive to continuing to propogate the anemone.
Chip has freely shown how to split these beautiful creatures. Many, including myself, propogate them.
(WAMAS...give this role model an official recognition as, well, I vote for "Oustanding Role Model"!)
So. I would suggest that just doing is all that is required. Frag it. Sell it. This gets more people fragging and sharing. You're happy. Everyones happy.
BUT this "sharing" goes beyond just the livestock itself. It goes to sharing knowledge about best practices, what to do when disasters happen, being there when someone needs a broken part, going to help when someone is setting up a tank, or whatever.
Ummn...notice something...you already have it. It's called WAMAS.
So, I would suggest again. It's a mindset of just doing it, remembering why we're doing it, and having a great fun time doing it! (Yaa WAMAS!)
Minimizing formal setups allows for more organic and fun growth for all. We WAMAS members, our tanks, and these forums are the aquarist bank.
