Our new Buddies - Rhomboid Wrasses

Rhomboids are nice...but not so much when the are dry and on the floor -
The barracuda will be powerful enough if the piping is appropriate. I have a barracuda supplying a 230g about 12+ feet from the basement. 2" pipe. I dial it back to give a margin of error for the overflows. Two 2" returns still have the water about 3/4"-1" higher than the pipe intake. If something clogs...it really would be an issue. Make sure you have enough return capacity. Nadir

Fill tank with tap water. Add a few - 3-5 gallons of vinegar. Stick a powerhead in. Wait a day or two. Coraline and gunk should just peel off with minimal scraping. Empty. Wipe down. = clean tank. Nadir

Will be there....

Anybody ever successfully re-sealed a glass aquarium?
www.fishnreef.com replied to steveoutlaw's topic in General Discussion
Re-sealing you will need spacers (as pointed out before). You can get thin silicone spacers at HD or Lowes. You can leave these in as the spacers become close to invisible and help setup. Clamp or use duct-tape to hold the glasses together. You don't want to squeeze the silicone out. Trim later with razor blades. Nadir -
White powdery crud in salt water mix
www.fishnreef.com replied to sen5241b's topic in General Discussion
It seems to be better to add salt to more water vs. less as adding salt to a little water supersaturates the liquid which may then percipitate out. -

120rr water drop during power outages
www.fishnreef.com replied to fishcam's topic in General Discussion
Easy method. Reduce the water in your sump. Switch off power. See how high the water level in the sump goes. Add the number of inches the water rises when power is off to the normal level of the sump. You have your answer. Also, ANY algae or obstruction in the intake of the return will effectively constrict your returns leading to higher levels of water in your tank. So, when there is a power cut, that additional water also goes into your sump. Rule: Keep your returns clean. -
Now I can pre-id fishes using fishbase when diving in particular islands! Thanks!

If you watch your livestock finishing the food that you give, then you probably are not overfeeding. Wait and test again at regular intervals (twice weekly) so you understand the scope of the problem (is the amonia/nitrate slowly rising or does it jump up quickly, by how much. Is the increase decreasing). Best not to apply too many "remedies" at the same time.
-
Marcia, How do you know you have amonia problems? If you have tested. Test again or use another test kit. What are your base parameters? FWIW, I find that identifying and re-checking all the possible variables which are affecting my tanks gives be a baseline from which I can then adjust one parameter or the other. Else, I have ended up changing a parameter which then has other unintended side-effects, while still leaving the original problem! Nadir WHERE'S BOB'S SPELCHEKR!

Do I know you?

Howard! Welcome back... :-) Yes...it's me in a new persona. Nadir
