  1. Doug - you don't have to wait until the tank tour :-) Also some of us may do it again for the 2nd Gaithersburg/Germantown tank tour on October 28th. Jose Antonio (seantadez) has agreed to join the tour August 13th in the early part of the day (11:00 am/noon to .......?- TBD).
  2. "OK mine will be 2-4pm on Sunday Aug 13th. I'm located just off River Rd in Chevy Chase" I don't think Chris (cbshaw) has any time constraints so maybe we Gaithesburg/Gemantown folks could do earlier in the day. That way you can start out our way and work your way back towards DC/home.
  3. Ok - Chris (cbshaw) and I will go in with the tank tour group on Sunday, August 13th (Rik's). I'm going to contact a few other people in the area and extend an "ingraved invitation" to participate. I'll update if we get more - but I'll also keep track of how many we'll have on the 13th since the area is expanding. Too many people on the same date might not be such a good thing either.
  4. This may be a first but the Gaithersburg/Germantown area may have two tour dates. A few can do August, but one person can't do until October (house remodeling issues) :-) We're working on an August date first - then we'll do an October date. Question about personal preferences: If you had a choice, would you prefer to see tanks on Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend or just one day (Saturday or Sunday) in a weekend. Sometimes when you have kids, spouse, responsibilities it's hard to get out two days in a row for tank stuff :-) Also - anyone in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area interested please post here or PM me so we can include you in the date we select. We could also include the Rockville area (rsaavedra/PupChow/Janie - interested?) - it's pretty much "in the area" for anyone coming from Virginia :-)
  5. Chip - I was just thinking about this last week. I'm going to start e-mailing folks I know in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area, see of there is any interest and see if we can settle on a date.
  6. Hello Ben! I wondered a few weeks back what happened to you since you hadn't posted for a while. How was the trip that you won through the contest (I think it was a contest?)?
  7. Yep - it's Peter Poggi. We did the same set-up with our generator as Peter - used the same electrician. That's for us/the house. For the tanks, I use a battery backup w/deep cycle batteries that starts on it's own when power goes out and shuts off and recharges when power comes back on.
  8. Yeah - late as usual :-) Two Turbo 1250's on the reef and MCE 600 on the 90 gallon.
  9. Anybody who 1) see the title of the thread, 2) still clicks on and 3) POSTS :-)
  10. The latest - According to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement. A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said. CJ - he definitely has a hard head :-)
  11. Apparently Big Ben was in a pretty serious motorcycle accident (no helmet of course). From what I heard he went over the handle bars up on top of a car and then down to the ground - supposedly lots of blood. I think he's in surgery now - not life threatening but serious :-( http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/foot...t.ap/index.html
  12. Carl - just a question - is there something that says "over a certain size/weight you must use steel for the stand" or is that just your person comfort level? My 300 gallon tank (8X2X3) is made extremely well - out of wood - and it's a "display height" stand so that I have no problem fitting things or working underneath.
  13. Nevermind - I found Univision. It's on channel 402 on Directv. BTW - If anyone knows where to get a schedule like the one Rik posted but for CFL games (maybe by month or even weekly), let me know where it is.
  14. Thanks guys for the explanation. I never noticed that they actually had a role in the games (ball boys) - must be a thrill for them! CJ - what's Univision? I've heard the name but don't know whether it's a channel or cable/satellite service? I have Directv - is it available through them? If it's not - I'm not changing. I stay where NFL Sunday Ticket is :-)
  15. I have a soccer question. I'm fairly new to Premier League soccer but because of my husband (he played soccer in England while in college) and the fact that I'm kind of a sports nut anyway, I've watched a lot on Directv channels over the last few years. When the games start and the players come out from the tunnels some of them have kids with them. Who are those kids (their kids, kids that get the "honor" of coming out with the team, etc.)? .
  16. Couldn't have said it any better. We can only do our best but s*&@$ happens.
  17. but then you probably wouldn't be able to put any two "like" fish in the same tank. I've had a six line for quite a while and added another wrasse and he was relentless in chasing the other wrasse and not just friendly chasing like the tangs - or squirrels chasing each other around the yard. As to QOL - they could do a lot worse
  18. Thanks Rik - You've made my husband a very happy man and saved me a lot of trouble
  19. Don - I have a sohol, yellow and sailfin in my 300 gallon. The sohol is definitely the boss. The yellow was there first so he never really bothered him (light sparring around food but that was all). Added the sailfin and the sohol hassled him for a while - even took a big chunk out of his fin - but it's grown back and now all is well. The sohol will occasionally chase the sailfin around in circles but it's just fun - no bitting or nipping fins. I need to move my frag/QT tank and when I do the sohol is going in there while I add another tang or two.

    rozens

Maybe we can turn this thread into a positive. Let's make some recommendations on how to deal with Roozens if and when you decide to go there. Their selection is really good, so at some point even if you said you wouldn't go or wouldn't go back, you just may change your mind. First suggestion - dress like a homeless person

My only gripe is that I like to see the prices posted. If you can make a separate deal all well and good, but I like to see that the beginning price is the same for everyone. Hard to believe that everyone working their can give the same price for the same items straight from their head. It gives me the feeling that they charge according to how they feel on a particular time/day or whether the customer looks like they'll go for that price or not. Maybe because they have such a large selection, open/visible pricing isn't an option, but that's the part I don't like.
  22. Beautiful - makes me realize that my guy needs a girlfriend :-) Where can I order a mandarin if I want to specify the sex - not just take whatever they send?
  23. Jon - sorry to hear this - consider an "informal" tank tour to Gaithersburg and get some nice frags :-)
  24. Just let me know what day/time works for you! Same offer to anyone else interested
