  1. Jim at Tropical Fish World had a link to the Aquatic Gardeners Association/Society and lots of pics of planted tanks but they've changed their site. Try this one too - see the link to the aquascaping contests. The site is not easy to navigate :-( and they may all be freshwater (?) http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/
  2. Replied to your PM
  3. Chris - they are yours. Sending you a PM

  5. Definitely want a frag and if you can do closer to 2" that would be great. Is there anything you wanted for trade? If not - let me know the cost of the deep water frag. Thanks! Also selling 3"+ blue tort frags. See the top at approximately 2:00 pm right under the sea swirl. There are 3 individual frags. Will try to find a closer pic of those or the mother $50 each
  6. Dave - that's a really nice looking website. I love the format and great pics. Now I understand what you meant by the difference in growth pattern/habit on some of the same corals that we have (pink birdsnest/purple stylo, etc.). Do you have a piece of the unknown deep water coral?
  7. Congrats Chris - great pic as always!
  8. Anyone have any suggestions for making the process of getting together and making contacts at the meetings any easier? I seem to spend a lot of time (sometimes missing parts of the speakers talk or some other part of the meeting) trying to find people I've worked out deals with :-( If I knew everyone - that would be a breeze but that's not possible. Can we designate an approximate time (near the end of the meeting maybe) or set up a particular table or area for sellers/traders to meet? If you have to leave the meeting early or won't get there til late, separate arrangements can still be made. I'm trying to reduce my stress and enjoy the meetings more :-)
  9. Johnny - sent a PM about Paypal payment and later pick up of the book.
  10. I'll PM for your address and map quest it in. Depending on the time coming back through we should be able to stop by. Should be some interesting games on Sunday afternoon - don't want to miss them :-)
  11. Very nice color in the tank :-)
  12. "I feel so sorry for her. I'm sure she misses her home anemone." Tape a picture of an anemone to the tank glass so she can see it :-) Thanks for the suggestion about trying algae with the Naso. Should have thought of that myself :-( He's eating that but still being picky about even the type of algea that he wants!
  13. Dave - great pics - love the first fish - has similar markings as a yellow (corlis) wrasse!
  14. Thanks much guys - the reservoir WAS :-) going to hang from the ceiling or up on a high shelf completely out of the way so I'd have more room to walk behind the tank. I'm very space challenged :-( I thought I read somewhere that the way to keep the alk (or maybe calcium) drip line from clogging was to make sure it discharged under the water level of the sump. When I set up the pump, both lines for my 2-part should not be underwater?
  15. I need to get a pump (probably the Nautilis II) but I have a couple of questions first for those that already have them. Going back to the discussion about the controller interface. The Nautilis II already has a main power cord (black cord in Dave's pic). Why can't that cord just plug into a timer? Why would I need the CI? My reservoirs for 2 part will be hanging overhead out of the way with the dosing lines going down into the sump instead of sitting on a floor for the 2-parts to get pulled up and into the sump. Will this be OK for pump operation? I'm only using a cup a day of each part. Would it be better (relatively speaking - not adding anything too fast) to dose over a longer period with smaller tubing or over a shorter period with larger tubing?
  16. My readings pH: 7.8 (measured in dark sump, but lights have been on in tank for 3 hours) Temp: 80.2 Salinity 1.020 (yes, I want to get that up) Alkalinity: 2 meq/L (SeaTest kit) Calcium: 320 (Salifert kit) What are the recommendations in this case? I plan to add saltwater instead of plain RO/DI to get my salinity back up. I am also thinking that adding some baking soda to my water addition will increase the alkalinity and also help with pH? Hi Steve, Are you just setting up this tank or is this an established tank w/lifestock in it?
  17. Thank you my dear :-) Have a great rest of your weekend!
  18. Anyone have the phone number to Dimitri's shop in Rockville? I'm looking for live brine close to home. Thanks!
  19. Just read part of your tank set up thread and saw your heat concerns. (I followed the thread early on but then I missed quite a bit and never got caught up.) This fish might not work for you right now :-(
  20. For a red fish - have you looked at any of the Catalina Gobies? I'd love to have one but they are in cooler waters (around 72 degrees) and I can't keep my tank at that low a temperature if my life (or the fishes life) depended on it :( They aren't a commonly found fish but they beautiful and are available once in a while. There is also a Zebra Catalina Goby, not as pretty as the regular Catalina Goby, but it doesn't seem to have the same cooler temp cautions.
  21. I would still like to hear about recharging time from anyone with the DIY backups when you've had a chance to use them.
  22. Have a great one Dave :-) Getting anything for your tank for your birthday?
  23. Speaking of testing back-ups. We tested ours a few weeks ago (inverter w/3 marine batteries). It ran for about 11 or so hours but we cut the test off because we wanted to go to bed. It was close to running out anyway - typical life on previous tests I was 12 hours and the indicators were on red anyway. Problem - the next morning the batteries were STILL recharging. How can I recharge them faster?
