  1. Thanks Dave! Still can't be really active. I can't keep up with everything, but I check the boards to keep current on thinking/methods, etc.
  2. Dave - are you a fish whisperer who makes house calls?
  3. Khanh, I just tried that combo and the jury is still out. I already had 6 tangs and for the last 2, I wanted the Achilles and Blond Naso. I carefully planned to get both of the Achilles and Blond Naso the same size (or the Blond Naso a little larger) because I wanted to QT and introduce them together. They both did really well in QT, ate well and were fat and healthy. After a couple of weeks in QT where ironically the Achilles was a little more aggressive, I put them both in the main tank. The Power Blue instantly started harrassing the Achilles. Wouldn't let him out of one corner. He rarely saw the light of day The only thing that saved him was that he was a good eater and was still able to get food. He definitely got thinner and got ick from the stress. Now a couple of weeks later, the Achilles most of the time has free run of the tank and isn't confined to a corner or behind the rocks, but he can't fully recover because the Power Blue, although he ignores him for the most part, just can't help himself and will chase the Achilles every now and then. The Achilles has no problem being the first one at the nori clips and eats well, but that Power Blue just can't totally ignore him. I've soaked food in garlic and added selcon to most of the food. The ick is getting better and he's getting fatter again. I'm hoping that with a little more time he will be able to live in peace. I could catch the Power Blue, but I've had him for years and just my luck, the Achilles would become the tank bully I think I'm better off keeping the known than taking a chance on the unknown. If I tried it again, I woudl make sure that the Achilles was larger than the Power Blue. Eve
  4. [Assuming you have a buddy near by with power, where you can recharge the other battery). -- Rob ' Rob - what the quickest, safest for the battery (I heard that a fast charge isn't good for a battery?) way to recharge the deep cycle batteries? I've never totally run it out except a while back when we ran it just to see how long we could count on it. Usually it just recharges when the power comes back on but that is definitely a slow charge.
  5. :( Rik - I just PM'd you and told you my power outage saga - had no idea that you didn't have power :-( Guy - call if you need help. For all - here's what's been going on at my house! Husband called me at work at 3:15 pm yesterday - power is out. I have an inverter w/marine batteries so I wasn't too panicked but I didn't have anything on the 40 breeder/qt and I just got a male mandarin on Tuesday!! Get home, put 2 battery airlines on the 40 breeder. The inverter is running the MAG 7 (small chiller pump). After about an hour I plugged another MAG 9.5 (other chiller pump) into the inverter outlet - surely the power will be back on soon right? When 8:00 pm or so comes and still no power - I get worried about the inverter getting through the night so I unplug the MAG 9.5 and just kept the MAG 7 running. Went to bed after "watching" the Penguins lose on a 4" battery TV. Expected the inverter to run out sometime during the night :( Had dream about yellow tang laying on the sand bed! Woke up - still no power - afraid to go downstairs. Very relieved to see that the MAG 7 still running (inverter now on green/yellow) and the battery airlines still going :-) Really need to get to work but can't run out leaving hubby to deal with generator (coffee/VHO's for tank) and watch the inverter too (can I?). Since I have no idea when power will come back (and inverter now on yellow/red), we are at Sears when they open getting marine batteries in case we have to go through another night without power :-( Leave hubby to get more gas for generator, bring batteries home, and hook them up while I dash to work. around noon. When he gets home at around 11:30 am the MAG 7 is still running! I get to work just in time for a power outage and they send us all home :-( I need a nap and a few
  6. Yep - Let me know when you have a frag. I know I can find something to trade
  7. So are you happy with the tank now? You usually aren't
  8. "When we had the Mag 24 in the sump, we had trouble keeping the heat down, so we ran fans on the surface of the sump. It cooled well by evaporation, but if we leave the tank for hours at a time, it can get too chilly. Now we have the Dart, so heat isn't as much of a problem," I'm switching from MAGs in sump to a Dart for the same reason. This gives me hope that I'm not going through the trouble (and expense) for nothing :-)
  9. Heads-up for anyone who really wants/needs to be in the Radisson I'll be cancelling my room reservation some time today (room w/2 queen beds). Cheers! Eve
  10. Hi All, I wanted to update you on the frag. I've decided to get rid of my softies tank. Since Inna was next for a frag, I asked her if she would take it. Coincidentally we had spoken a week or two ago because I knew she was next in line for a frag. I told her I would put a rock next to it (again) so it could attach and she would be able to get her frag. Well - just this past weekend I finalized my decision to break down the tank so I asked her to take the frag (since it wasn't a bit closer to attaching to the rock next to it :-( ). Long story short - she's coming to get it tomorrow. She'll frag a piece for me down the road and I'll decide then whether to sell it, whatever. :-)
  11. "I'm hoping that Eve will show up and tell us all that hers is BLUE BLUE BLUE - and we can all get a frag of it!" I'm showing up - but I can't tell you that it's BLUE BLUE BLUE. It's not. It would be a lot closer under solid actinics, but I'm not sure that anyone will get close to the web photo. I have 4 VHOs - 3 actinic and one 50/50 and it's a pale purple at best. "Suggest if it's anywhere near healthy, that you frag some off. It seems to do its best when it's small. Get several pieces of it growing here and there. I put a piece up for auction already - and I have another piece that I'm giving to the person that helped me the most when I first started in here. One piece for my 58, and the main, original piece continues to grow frags for me. Reason for the quick fragging and auctioning is that I want to get it spread out into as many tanks as possible - just in case. Think of some of Tyree's limited editions that just aren't available anymore. And others that he was able to buy back. It isn't DEAD until they're ALL dead." The piece I have is doing really well. I moved it up about as high as I can and it's still stretching up. It's around 2-1/2 - 3" tall and about 2-1/2" wide with multi-branches. Inna has the next frag and the choice of taking a cutting or waiting for a frag to attach to a piece of rock.
  12. Eve - what is that cactus-looking thing on the right side of the picture?? bob Cabbage leather? You got it :-)
  13. "Whack off that arm, and I'll bet it starts growing UP." That's what happened - accidentally. I used tongs to lift both rocks out at the same time - then I was going to cut it - but when I got the rocks out the frag was already separated! "What is it basking under as far as flow and light?" I moved both pieces up to the top (31" tall tank/VHOs w/lots of actinic). They both get good flow but the major flow is from a sea swirl so it comes and goes - not steady. As of tonight - they both seem happier up higher in the light and the color shows better.
  14. Last I wrote in the thread I put a piece of rock next to the frag so it could encrust but instead of incrusting, it decided to lay down the longest branch across the top of the frag rock!! I'm going to cut the attached branch all the way back to the stalk and I'm going to move my piece up higher in the light to see if it improves the color.
  15. Hi All, The frag is doing fine. I just moved another rock next to it hoping it will encrust to the other rock as it grows. I'm not on the boards much and I don't see that changing anytime soon :-( I'm starting to get a little uncomortable having this frag and not keeping up with the thread. What should we do - should it be split with someone soon?
  16. It's not as blue as their pic but I think their pic was taken under 20K? Under my VHO's it's sort of like a pale blue/purple color. I have it next to a piece of pink pom pom and you can definitely tell the difference, but it's not a deep dark purple. In the pic I posted, it's kind of leaning over. Now it's standing straight up and I'm going to move a rock next to it to encourage it to spread out. Anyone with camera skills is welcome to come and take a good pic for everyone.
  17. These pics are so bad that they are only good for showing that the baby is in the tank and slowly relaxing! Here's a little while after I put it in the tank. I was too tired and didn't even think about taking a pic when I first got home. Here's a little while later And this is around 8-9:00 pm or so.
  18. The precious cargo is home and acclimating. Visitation can be arranged :-) Thanks to Steve and Bob! I'll try to give a report later after it's in the tank but it looks fine.
  19. Can I leave your $47 with Bob tomorrow? BTW - Thanks Rik :-)
  20. It's coming on Friday? If so, I can come and get it. I said Friday like that's far off. It's coming tomorrow right?
  21. I could take the second one to put in my softies tank.
  22. And a back up plan - I work from home on Fridays (if that's the delivery day).
  23. I thought I was out and PM'd Inna about getting on her reserve list. I'll go in and still hedge my bets for survival by staying on her reserve list. If all goes well with mine by the time Inna's is ready to share, we can deal with that then.
  24. You can count me in if this happens. I'll check the thread in the morning.
