  1. sorry I missed this (was at a wedding). Is anything left? David
  2. get pissed everytime I see my water bill. I am in the GB for a 100 gal container to hold the wastewater and am planning to use it for the washing machine and gardening.
  3. We should have met up - I just got back from a wk in Hawaii on Monday night. I found the diving off the Big Island to be quite nice, mostly north of Kona. My overall number of dives are not high, but I've dived off the Great Barrier reef and the Caribbean and I thought the dives in Hawaii were equal to those, different - but equal. Saw one white-tipped shark, and little to no algae. maybe there are big differences between the islands. I also heard the visibility was low the week before I arrived due to coral spawning.
  4. I think it's important to measure how much your top-off is each day. It will different for different lights, sumps, et cetera, even if the tank is the same size. I was once replacing 3.5 gallons a day with kalkwasser - tank loved the Ca but my wife was not too happy when she found out it was raining inside the attic. Once I covered the tank, and switched to LEDs the evaporation went down to 0.5 gallons a day.
  5. Welcome. While I live out in Vienna I work @ foggy bottom - and have a tank in my office @ work. Let me know if there's something I can do to help (free DI/RO is always available if you can carry, for example). cheers, David
  6. thanks! a lot of fun. anyone around vienna/tysons/reston want to split shipping charges? cheers, David
  7. thanks! trying to temper my addiction --- but it's very difficult.
  8. only if you have a multipass.
  9. has anyone contacted this person? "55 gallon drums that are food grade for $30. The drums do have lids and are ready for use." http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/grd/3988208475.html I would also be interested in some 55 gal drums, as well as a 275 gal tank ($135) (as a cistern for collecting garden water).
  10. genetically engineered fish and coral that glow in the dark....targeted expression of green fluorescent proteins, et cetera. heck....at the price those designer clownfish sold for ....maybe I should try this....
  11. did the problems begin with the anemone's dying? they could have released some toxins. whether that's the cause or not, a water change should help. sorry for your setbacks.
  12. thanks for awesome (and inexpensive) frags. hope you decide to go retail 1 or 2 days on the wkends. thanks again, David
  13. What will be the price of the Killer Metallic Glowing Orange Frogspawn? thanks.
  14. I have one at work. nice to have DI on tap and someone else paying the electric!
  15. will take the 2 Headed Blue Hammer $25 #34 thanks, David
  16. I helped my daughter measure how many times xenia pulsed at different temperatures for one of her science projects. effect was fairly dramatic and rapid. you could use that to talk about temperature sensitivity, global warming, ecosystems.....easy to do if you have some spare xenia.
  17. make sure the "grill" side of the cooler is not impeded with dust or grime. the fan needs to have good airflow, both on the air output and air input side of the chiller. good luck - David
