  1. you should two that are paired up.. twice the asternia killing power
  2. I would be all over that if I didn't already have his brother.... I paid way more than $250 for this piece...
  3. HARLEQIUN SHRIMP ARE THE ANSWER. I am babysitting Boret's harley right now... you can hand him asterina and watch him eat them right in front of you. I have yet to see one die in captivity as long as you have stars. When your stars are gone, put him on Wamas and someone will jump on it right away. Also, they are just about the coolest looking creature you can get for your tank.
  4. Four Stages!!! Wow! Anyone else do this? used to run one and I am now running two...
  5. you would think that there is a valve or something to drain a little so you can add some kalk... my sealed GEO made a mess if you dont take water out first... ?
  6. How about midas blennies?
  7. Hey Glen, Thanks for the info... when you add kalk to the grey seas or the deltec you just get an extra little boost of kalk in the tank rather than a spill...
  8. scolymia are awesome... when they open at night it is simply amazing... looks completely different... BY FAR the best coral in my tank..
  9. You can frag it and it will look jacked up forever... yes...
  10. at least 3, maybe 4? chris?
  11. How many more scolys are at BRK right now?
  12. Nice piece chris...
  13. haha ya you better PM him before I do...
  14. I replaced my RO once and my DI resin depleted much faster than it had before I changed the RO. The RO membrane rejection rate is important... they vary greatly from RO to RO... http://www.spectrapure.com/faq_p0.htm#rorejection so you can get a RO that rejects 98% and that RO will make your DI last twice as long as one that is 96% rejection... or that is how I taught myself to understand it anyway...
  15. ya thats what I figured... I dont have the room but... I can always make room... hmm...
  16. how big is it?
  17. When I took down my big tank and put up this smaller tank with much more efficient equipment I noticed a large decrease in my electricity bill... my tank was using more energy than the two renters living in that space now...
  18. Interesting about the water change water Brian... I am dumping my water change water directly on a hill that drains into a creek that goes into a pond across the street... could I be causing this pond harm? Should I put the water change water into my septic field? I don't like putting more water than I need to down the septic.
  19. STEVE! Thats a huge one... I just upgraded my RODI with a booster pump... 35psi to 70 psi and I get 10x the water and I dont even hear the waste stream so I know its reduced... big water saver! Thanks Trockafella and Jan... if we keep getting good information (doesn't tom always give good info!) maybe we will need to sticky this...
  20. when you say flourescent... those are T5, T12 and Actinic bulbs?
  21. ok I will start saving my old resin to donate to the wamas resin recharge...
  22. What can we do to keep the enviromental impact of the hobby to a minimum? I think this is important for new reefers to know. I know that we shouldn't throw metal halide bulbs in the landfill... but how bad is it? How do we properly dispose of them? We have had threads about RODI wastewater and its uses... We were discussing DI resin in another thread today and that doesn't seem to be too bad to trash... but what about everything else? Ok to throw away old ballasts? Old chillers? Old pumps? I dump used carbon in my backyard... is this bad? I dump water change water in my backyard... is this bad? What about used phosphate removal media? What about T5 and actinic bulbs? Am I missing anything else? Even the small things... we should all carry containers around with us when shopping or picking up fish/frags to avoid the use of plastic baggies... I have thrown away hundreds of plastic bags!

  24. Also, on another note... We use muriatic acid sometimes in masonry cleaning... This stuff is bad news... I would MUCH MUCH rather buy new resin cartridges than mess with those chemicals... Maybe I am a wimp and will pay more money... but I wont risk burning a hole through my floor or arm (especially since it doesn't harm the enviroment)... lol
