  1. The skimmer finally settled down after the second time. It's still running fairly wet and I don't know if I can get it to run any drier. I lowered the riser neck as low as I could, so I'm not sure if there is anything else that I can do. My guess is that the RS80 might be a bit of an over kill for my 30 gal. If anyone can think of anything else that I can do, please let me know. Thanks.
  2. I did my water change, took out the tunze nano skimmer to be thoroughly cleaned. I put in the Euroreef RS 80 skimmer and have the riser pipe as low as I can according to the direction. It sticks out of the water by about 1/2". Plugged it in and turned it on. The skimmer went crazy and spewing out wet bubble. In a course of half hour or so, I had to turn it off and emptied the collecting cup. It looks like it's slowing down a bit right now. Is it normal for the skimmer to go crazy like that initially?
  3. I have couple of mighty mean clownfish so I wear latex gloves from costco. when these fish realized that biting my hands didn't do anything, they would go for the arm.
  4. MSNBC has marine photos of the areas that are covered. Those photos are spectacular!!!!
  5. I have a tunze nano skimmer.
  6. I just look at my info and it's out of date. Much has changed since I last had that information up. I have a total of 4 fish and 1 fireshrimp in my tank. No zoas, and several corals.
  7. I've never used an RS 80 skimmer before and it looks like I need to put it to use today. I know that skimmer is to be used in the sump. Here's my question: The one pump that comes with it. does that same pump is used to pull water into the skimmer and break the water into fine bubble? Or do I need to buy another pump to pull the water in?
  8. Thanks Sean. I sent you a PM.
  9. I've been using prodibio products for the past 3 months and so far, I can't tell if it's working or not or if something else is going on in my tank that I am unaware of. I'll do my water change, put in another euroreef rs-80 skimmer, set up the phosban reactor, clean and replace the kalwasser in the kalk reactor, and yank out as much as I could of the green hair algae, and monitor that for the next couple of weeks along with monitoring the water parameter and see how it goes.
  10. I'm not sure yet. It might be just that considering that I recently replaced the original pump with another one. Tunze nano pump is not cheap considering its small size. Anyway, I bought a used Euroreef rs-80?? skimmer from one of the wamas members a couple of months back. I'll set that up today and hopefully it won't be too difficult in getting it to work. Budget is tight and when something like this happen, it makes it that much more difficult to enjoy the hobby.
  11. Thanks KLee. I might have to take you up on that offer.
  12. I pulled out my back couple of weeks ago and I been spending as much time as I could in bed to recuperate. The pain finally went away last night so I decided to go check on my tank. To my dismay, several of my corals that I bought with YBeNormal had bleached and the tank is covered with green hair algae again. I took a quick look a the skimmer cup and saw that it was roughly half full. I knew that couldn't be right considering that I had not emptied it out in over 3 weeks. If I had to guess, it looks like my skimmer had failed and it caused a dramatic downturn on the rest of my 30 gal tank. It looks like my task after work today is to remove as much of that green hair algae by hand, replace the protein skimmer, and do a water change. It just break my heart seeing the corals that I love died like that.
  13. WOW. those are some great photos!!!
  14. Thanks to Steveoutlaw's wife for making him getting rid of his 120 gal reef ready tank, it is now mine. I has the exact dimension that I want. Can't wait till I can clean it and get it set up.
  15. It's unfortunate that tough times fall on everyone. I feel bad that it has to come to this where you feel you have to take that next step in trying to recover your money. I also feel bad for Jeff as I think he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Though I have never had business with Jeff, I did talk to him a few times in the past and felt that he was a nice guy. I think that if things are different for Jeff financially, he would not shirk his responsibility of doing what is right for his customers. Just my thought. I wish both of you the best in this hard time.
  16. I wear latex gloves to protect my hands. when they realized they could bite my hands, they would go for the arms. Smart buggers...
  17. I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of powerhead. I think they're unsightly and take away the aesthetic look of the tank, but that is just my opinion. Fishwife set up a closed loop on her tank before without drilling that looked really good. So that is another way of doing it if someone like me who is uncomfortable or not knowing if my tank is tempered or not.
  18. I would like to use something that is a bit stronger than vinegar, but not so much that it would melt the overflow. Since I can dilute this, it looks like it's exactly what I needed.
  19. Thanks for the clarification. I will most likely have to refer back to this thread when the weather warms up and I can start cleaning it. Do you know if this stuff will melt plastic even when it's diluted?
  20. Those guys have the best customer service I've ever seen.
  21. WAMASers.... You guys are the best.
  22. LOL The only way I was allowed to get this tank was that I had to promise her "No More Tank". Otherwise, she will pull a steveoutlaw's wife on me and make me get rid of not only the main tank but all the tanks in the house. Being the Man that all of us married men are, I boldly replied "Yes dear. I promise this is the last tank." Thanks all for the advice. I can't believe how heavy this 120 gal is. I'm so glad now I didn't go after something larger, it took me, my wife and a cousin of ours to lift this tank off the truck and onto the stand. When the time comes for me to clean it, I'll be needing some help again too. Where do you guys get muriatic acid?
  23. I bought a beautiful used 120 gal RR tank from Steveoutlaw. The tank is mostly empty right now with some remaining sands still on the bottom of the tank. It's sitting on the stand in my garage right now and what I would like to do is clean it so that when the time come for me to set it up, I don't have to worry about having to clean it first. I'm curious to know how and what you guys use to clean your tank. With the tank being quite heavy, is it safe to lay it on its side so I can spray water into the back of the tank?
