If you download the 2014 version, please provide feedback on it. Doing conference app for MACNA was our idea that Denver picked up on at the last minute. That's ok because it allows us to treat 2014 as a test run for ours.

The epoxy (or whatever they use) to seal the magnet on the wet side must have developed a crack allowing salt water to get to the metal magnet.

I used a powerline setup once but the runs were too far for me. I know another person who used it just fine for a while. But then they bought 2 MP40s and plugged them into the same circuit. The electrical interference from the motors killed the connection.

Stomellas. They are good.

Dave W's 3000 gal plankton/reef tank

There is definitely some merit into incorporating for the tax write offs. It doesn't even need to be a non-profit, just a regular LLC will work and it's much simpler to make happen. A couple of easy forms and $50 a year in registration fees. You could do it now and just write off future expenses. You can also write off depreciation on part of your home based on square footage ratio. There are plenty of side businesses where people still have a full time job because the side business doesn't make much of a profit. These businesses are completely legitimate and allow deduction of business expenses. Typical example- Make $50k at a FT job, spend $2k in fish expenses. At the end of the year, you are only paying taxes on $48k of income so you probably will get a bit of a refund from your FT job's withholding. Now lots of people try this so the IRS does pay attention. You need to avoid being declared a hobby by them and seen as a legitimate business. To do this, you need to book revenue. Maybe not day one but at some point (fairly early) you need to. You also need to eventually show a profit. Look at it from the IRS's view point. How many real businesses don't have a single customer paying a single penny for 2 years? How many people would keep a business that has a loss year after year. With those results, a business person would give up but a hobbyist continues. I'm not offering tax advice but I've been told by my accountants that profitability in 3 out of 5 years is generally reasonable enough to pass the profit test. Now profitability is something the business owner can control not only through increased revenue but also reduced (claimed) expenses. Since you aren't claiming any expenses at all right now, that means you can only improve your situation with claiming some/all expenses. The revenue part is where you would need to figure something out. Maybe offer tours of the greenhouse for $1! -
Looking for a kessil gooseneck to borrow

I got one too if you need. I only use it once a quarter... -
This crab has an entire COLONY of zoas growing on it. It was hilarious seeing this walking zoa colony!

The tank is doing well. Being a fairly new tank, we intentionally kept the bioload down. There are a pair of Ocellaris clowns along with a pink chromis. There are some snails and crabs for clean up crew and then a few pieces of leathers, GSP and zoas in there for corals. Some of the zoas are high end ones from my own tank that I temporarily put in there just for color. If you want to help stock with some fish, that would be great. I think it could use a tang, a blenny, and maybe a couple of other easy colorful fish. Let me know what you're thinking as I'm sure the school would appreciate it. I took a funny pic today when I stopped by. I'll post it from my phone in a sec.

Hahaha. On a similiar note, my rotifer culture died that week because my manual feeder "forgot about the bucket"... Can wait for production to begin!

Looking at the tank right now. The xenia is doing great!

Suboptimal water pressure means lower rejection rate for membrane. That means the di was likely the first thing burned through. The fact that it was left open ask week means possibility that the other filters are also shot. But my instinct is that the di went first.

Water is fine, di resin may have gotten exhausted tho.

I'm cynical so I think 1-2 will die very soon. The remaining 1-2 may grow out but at soon as they start touching each other, only one will survive.
-
Exactly my thoughts. Funny that you use an MP40 base cover to help grow the worms... LMK how they go. I need something small and nutritious for my baby chromis.

Man, look at that dive gear! That video has to 30 years old!

You donated your good energy and happy thoughts! I'm hoping to stop by late this week or early next week to check up on things and introduce a donated anemone. I can let everyone know what other kinds of things they need. Off the top of my head, they could probably use a little more in the way of fish. There's a pair of clowns and a pink Chromis in there right now. We've had lots of offers on dottybacks and damsels but I think it would be best if we had nice, easygoing fish in the tank. Maybe a tang or something?

As we say here, what's a tank thread without pictures?! I've been meaning to put them up but haven't had time with travel and other things. Here's a recap of how the tank came to be. In a meeting, with faculty at Colvin Run Elementary, we discussed and there was significant interest in having a tank set up for the school. I put a posting out to the WAMAS community and the membership responded with overwhelming generosity. Donations for equipment, livestock and time came pouring in from members and vendors alike. The result was a 90 gallon reef tank that had most of the parts needed to operate. Only a few small supplies and gadgets were needed to be purchased- and even those were provided at a significant discount. Saturday May 17th was the big day when everything came together. Here's the school All the hussle and bussle with getting the tank into it's spot- right in front the Library which means all the kids will pass by frequently. Cleaning up the tank a little. Monkiboy and Jesse in charge of getting the sump in place and plumbed Water coming in! Hypertech in charge of getting the screen tops cut and made Cheshireboxers and Mbvette helping to get the light hangers mounted One afternoon's work complete! Full tank shot with lights In addition to those pictured above, lots of other WAMAS members were instrumental to making this tank happen. Here's a quick list but please forgive me if I accidentally omitted someone, there were so many! Monkiboy- Donated the 90G Reef Ready tank, stand and sump setup Donations of livestock, equipment and/or time: JR-Tanked150 Darkcirca Squishie89 Wangspeed epleeds PatrickB Hypertech Jesse St9z Cheshireboxes MBVette Brian Ward Coral Hind Gwweber Sharkey18 dbartco Lastly a special acknowledgement to our local fish stores for their generous donations: Exotic Reef Creations Incredible Corals Quantum Aquaria Reef eScape With this, we now pass things on to the faculty and staff at Colvin Run. They have eagerly accepted the tank and agreed to provide periodic updates to the WAMAS community. I know we all look forward to seeing how this tank makes a difference with the young students.
