  1. 2000 people. Really.
  2. First shift did a bang up job. We are almost done and will stay until complete. If you haven't left yet, no need to come. Thanks for volunteering everyone!
  3. Everyone must be out with MACNA Fever!
  4. Don't you have other things to focus on week instead of the next pile of work to deal with?
  5. Just so people don't get the wrong idea- for months now, we have scheduled to have 2 4 hour shifts of 10 people helping Tuesday from noon-4 and 4-8pm. But because of all the other things going on Wednesday and not having enough volunteers to support resuming stuffing if needed, we MUST get things done Tuesday. We have also had a few last minute additions for goodies from vendors. Between a hard deadline and last minute increase in work, we are putting out the call to see if anyone else can lend a hand. If you can't be here for long periods of time that's fine. If you can provide 1+ hours at any point, it would be nice to have you there. I'm guessing most people may have availability after 5 when they get off work and that is fine. If we ended up with 20 people from 5-8, that would still be helpful. If things go well and we end up not needing lots of help, we will update this thread and find other ways to waive people off. Thanks all. And don't be surprised if you see more posts like this in the next few days.
  6. This is how hobbyist figured out you could manually split them. Someone's RBTA wen through a pump and out the other side came 2 nems that survived.
  7. But the parking is $41 a day! Haha
  8. We will begin to move equipment and goods from storage to the Wardman Park Marriott Monday evening 8/31. We need 2 people who can meet us in Arlington (near 4 Mile Run) from 5-6pm to help load up a U-Haul with things in storage. If possible, it would be great if those 2 could ride over to the Wardman Park to help unload. We need another 3 people to meet the U-Haul at the Wardman Park around 6:30-7 to help unload. We hope to done by 9 or 10 at the latest. I know everyone is doing a lot of volunteering the rest of the week but if anyone has some time Monday after work to help out, that would be great. You'll be able to get a sneak peek of the week to come! Please let us know. Thanks.
  9. Fill with tap, let it run a couple of days to make sure there a no leaks. Drain, refill with RO. If you want to be more green, fill with RO waste to check for leaks.
  10. We are tattooing it on Isaac's back. That's why everyone needs to confirm asap. He needs enough time to heal so it's legible by then.
  11. Want to play with one for a day or so. Anyone near Tyson's have one they are willing to lend out? Won't do anything crazy with it, just trying to get a better sense for how it works than you can get from visiting the MS store. Thanks.
  12. Thanks for your follow up and continued interest. The initial schedule was posted here: http://wamas.org/forums/topic/74181-volunteer-coordinator-updates/ But it looks like that is currently in the member's only section. We'll get that moved shortly. In the meantime, could you check your email/spam? There was also an email to all the volunteers with the schedule. Thanks.
  13. Hah, Dave W, the MACNA executive committee was just talking about you earlier this week. Be on the look out for a call from Doug...and say yes!
  14. Yup, we got that and we thank you (she may not...). Significant others and older kids are welcome volunteers. We generally try to assign the same shifts so that people can keep their schedules matched.
  15. For those who are still filling out the survey, we have a particular need for people to help on Wednesday 9/2, Thursday 9/3 and Sunday 9/6. Help on Friday and Saturday is still welcome but work seems to be getting in the way of fun for lots of people. Remember, Monday is a holiday so don't be afraid to spend all day Sunday with us! We also have a particular need for people to help with staffing the entrances to check badges and to assist with Sunday breakdown. Also, a new role was added after the survey. We need people to help with "Water Distribution". This is basically a few people to help haul a big hose around on the exhibit floor Wednesday and Thursday to fill up display tanks. Think fire fighter hose with salt water! This role also includes helping to break down and dispose of about 12,000 gallons of salt water on Sunday. We can't add this role as an option in the survey any more so if you are interested in helping with that, just type :Water Distribution" into the "Other" field. Thanks all. The volunteer schedule will be out shortly.
  16. This is fine and your level of commitment is appreciated. We do plan to have back ups and buffers in place. Go ahead and fill out the survey and we will note internally that mother nature may preempt things. Thanks for helping.
  17. Better yet, get a booth at MACNA and make your debut in style!
  18. This just in- Incredible Corals has offered to provide a free $10 frag to anyone who volunteers for 2 or more shifts at MACNA. How cool is that! If you want to get in on this deal, just go to this thread and fill out the survey: http://wamas.org/forums/topic/73490-macna-2015-time-to-sign-up-and-volunteer/ If you have already filled out the survey but want to change things, go ahead and fill it out in it's entirety again. We will simply delete the older survey and use the more recent one. Thank you Incredible Corals for your support as we try to make MACNA a great experience for everyone. Your generosity is just another indication of how much you support this club.
  19. Thank you. It really helps to have people volunteering for more shifts. Besides the added help, it allows us to assign more involves roles since we know they will have more than 1 shift to learn/use them.
  20. Yes, Jessica is correct. Please review items 2 and 3 in the initial post. We are still working things out. The problem with volunteer organizers and an event of this magnitude is that you can't just pull it off with 1-2 really motivated people. We have a much larger group and when you get to those numbers, it's hard for everyone to be in sync and match schedules for much needed planning. The original plan is to have the schedule about a month before the event which would mean in ~3 weeks. We may release a first draft earlier but in reality, that schedule probably won't mean much because new requirements are still coming in, people will want changes to their schedule, and other adjustments will need to be made. Nonetheless, we will probably release a first draft just to give everyone an idea of what is going on. We just need everyone to realize that changes will need to be made along the way and remain flexible. Thanks for everyone's patience. We really are working on getting things going.
  21. Oh man, sorry to see that you guys are leaving the area but I'm sure it's for greener pastures so I wish you and you awesome family the best of luck. Be sure to check in with us occasionally and let us know how things are going. Having you and Mindee as dive students was a great experience for everyone and I thank you for that.
  22. We are trying very hard to get an initial schedule worked up. Until recently, we didn't have enough open roles available to even try. With MACNA just around the corner, it's time to ask for volunteers. We received your survey and you are definitely going to get a role. Thanks!
  23. I would be except I'm doing some travelling this summer. I'll let you know when my schedule settles down and I can raise them. Keep up the good work!
  24. Black- solid or with some light orwd stripes?
  25. Yes, that is a fine way to increase your availability. Right now we only have about 1/3rd the needed staffing so we are short on ALL the days. Hopefully that will change and we can do as you ask. I would just fill out the survey and indicate which times you are willing to offer. There are a couple of places to enter free form notes so you can indicate any requests in the free form area. We will try our best to honor the request and make everyone happy. Thanks all!
