RANT...  I broke the original pump trying to take it apart to clean it.  I snapped a piece.  Ordered a Sicce 2.0, and it doesn't have the right size fitting, so I have to go to lowes or something.  The barb fitting on Sicce is too large.  Also, the pump doesn't fit straight into chamber, so I will have to assemble down in chamber.  Not looking forward to that.  With all that said it's running now with a Cobalt Maxi-Jet 600.  It's pretty slow flow, but I am tempted to leave it and stick with higher flow in the display using a MP10.

Anyways, it is now alive at last.

I ordered some Dr. Tims and the ammonia they sell to cycle the tank.  Also added a small piece of LR that has nice coraline on it.  Planning on letting it go for a while, and have some corals by new years.

For the theme I am planning monochromatic sps corals.  Things like green slimer, purple slimer, pink birdsnest, blue tort, setosa, things like that.  Even solid colored fish, but still debating what fish.

Glad to see you're taking your time with it. You've got the hardest part nailed.

There is usually a surfactant in it, which is not ideal.

Not that one. Ingredients are on the lable. And surfactants when shaken make bubbles. Eh but it doesn't matter you got dr tims

I dosed the recommended amount of ammonia to get a reading of 1.5, which was validated by an API test.  I followed up with the bottle of Dr. Tims.  Assuming ammonia drops back down to zero I plan to add a fish in the coming days.  I am only going to have 1-2 small fish to keep the nutrients low.

Either a small pair of clowns or even damsels.

Going strong with the power to not stock it yet.  Dosing ammonia every few days.  Letting the algae grow.  prob another 2-3 weeks I will do my first water change, and add a clean up crew at that time.

Mike, try adding some pods (copepods & amphipods), too. The algae will be a great place for them to reproduce and feed and will give your tank a lot of biodiversity at the bottom end of the food chain early on.

Tom, any tips on which ones do well in our systems that are available retail?  I know reefcleaners sells them, with a couple different options.

No. Sorry, I don't. There are a number of sources online, though. And you may be able to source some types from other hobbyists here.

Mike, want to split a couple orders of this with me to combine shipping?

The company gets grief for their coral shipments online, but I've had decent luck from them ordering these little bugs.  Last order was like 2 years ago and every time I get algae off my turf scrubber I end up with half-inch visible swimmers.

Tank is stocked with some pulsing xenia frags, gsp, two blue w/ yellow tail damsels, and a fire shrimp. I stuck to my plan for once!

Any ideas on a third fish I would be able to add with the damsels? If not, I am fine with just these two fish.

Got me missing the Fluval Edge.

Did you break this down? Or is it still going?
