scottiep33 January 20, 2015 January 20, 2015 Hi my name is Scott, I'm a relatively new saltwater aquarist. I bought a 55 gallon with the intent on making a beautiful reef tank. So far I have built up my liverock, added some fish, and got a few coral frags to tinker with. I'm looking for a better light setup. I'm just a sponge at this point absorbing what I can to help me in my new addiction.
scottiep33 January 20, 2015 Author January 20, 2015 Welcome! I'm nearby in Odenton, MDAwesome, yeah I'm just trying to learn as much as possible
makai531 January 20, 2015 January 20, 2015 Welcome! I'm also from Annapolis. You will find WAMAS to be a fabulous source of information.
Wrench January 20, 2015 January 20, 2015 Welcome to the addiction. The best advice I can give is to visit as many tanks as you can and see them in person while you're in your "sponge" phase. Learn what kind of "look" you're going for. Learn how the equipment works together. Most importantly, learn from all of our mistakes! There are quite a few of us within 15-20 mins of Annapolis. You're welcome to come by my place if you like.
wildcrazyjoker81 January 21, 2015 January 21, 2015 Welcome Scott. Look forward to helping you setup a nice reef along the way.
scottiep33 January 21, 2015 Author January 21, 2015 Hopefully I'll be at the Saturday meeting, and I would love to see some tank setups. Thanks for the support and looking forward to making this my home.

Origami February 21, 2015 February 21, 2015 Welcome to WAMAS, Scott! Tell us more about what your plans are with the tank.
dave w February 21, 2015 February 21, 2015 Scott, If I'm not mistaken you have some fairly salty water up there near Annapolis and you might be able to collect some sponges, anemones and stuff to start your tank. Many creatures from bays and estuaries will easily acclimate to the higher salinity of the ocean if you do it right. Then again, many will not, so you need to do a little internet research or ask around. It's not just salinity that is a challenge, much of our stuff from the mid-Atlantic will not survive the constant 70F plus temperatures of our tanks, even though they live in that for several months during the summer. Again, do a little research and ask people on this forum for guidance. Good luck.
YHSublime February 22, 2015 February 22, 2015 Scott went as quickly as he came. Hey Scott, welcome. Love to hear more about your setup!
