gmerek2 December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 I'm a night owl. It would be more fun to run the lights late into the night. My livestock always know when the sun comes up because they have several windows. Will I stress everything out if I set the lights to turn off at 1am?
WheresTheReef December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 I'm a night owl as well. Lights out for my tank is 1am. It's in the basement but light makes it in through a window. Livestock should be fine and would adjust.
smallreef December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 I would adjust it over a few days, but I think it would be fine...
zygote2k December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 I have a client who changed her light cycle by 12 hours to take advantage of her nocturnal habits. It threw everything out of whack for about a month because everything had been long term stable. many corals died. she changed the cycle in one day. maybe getting used to looking into a dark tank would be better than lighting it till 1 am....
08can-am December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 I have a friend who is a tattoo artist. His work schedule was like 12-9. He wanted to be able to enjoy his tank so his lights didnt come on til later in the day and were on til midnight or so.
ctenophore December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 I don't think it will hurt anything. I've left lights on by accident for 3 or 4 days straight many times and besides a few corals being shriveled up for a day or so, nothing had any real problems.

I bought this tank from Brad and it was stunning even with the later lighting schedule. Should be fine. I know the_elite_edge lights don't come on till evening time and they run overnight while he is awake and home.
GraffitiSpotCorals December 28, 2014 December 28, 2014 Rob what caused corals to die in your clients tank?
Origami January 1, 2015 January 1, 2015 Mine come on at 1 pm and go out at 11 PM so that I can enjoy the tank after work.
treesprite January 1, 2015 January 1, 2015 I keep lights off and blinds closed in the room when tank lights are out, so real daytime light doesn't make things confusing.

It's confusing the hippo tang and probably giving the nocturnal inverts less time to clean up. I'm going to end up getting some stronger moon lights. I'm not willing to give up my sunlight lol
wangspeed January 2, 2015 January 2, 2015 I love looking at the tank at night, but I use LEDs on a controller to accomplish night lighting. -- Warren
