Salt Man August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 Hello everyone, I am going to start up a 40 gallon tank for my Tiger Oscar, and my two other electric blue Elongated Mbuna. I was wondering if a 40 gallon tank would be enough to support my oscar, and the two other chichlids. Also, what filters would you recommend. Thank you for the help.
smallreef August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 Ummm.... I know nothing of freshwater... There are some crossover hobbyists here... But we are a (mainly) marine aquarist society... So my vote is to turn that 40g Into a reef!
DuffyGeos August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 Um..... Not sure how much input you will get for freshwater fish. I think Thai has freshwater. Try to PM him.
RW09903 August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 How big is the oscar? I would personally go with a 75 but 40 would work for a few years if the fish are small enough.
jakejordan94 August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 my father had an oscar a while back, and it got huge, he had it in a 50G, and it was pretty cramped
treesprite August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 You would do better to go to PVAS Potomac Valley Aquarium Society

Salt Man August 19, 2014 Author August 19, 2014 Okay he is about 5 inches now but he is growing rapidly.
morgan175 August 19, 2014 August 19, 2014 The answer is no. Mine ended up 12 to 14 inches big. He was at home in a 75. Don't know about the others. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Origami August 20, 2014 August 20, 2014 Hi Salt Man. While we're happy to have you here, you'll find a good community of freshwater enthusiasts at PVAS (Potomac Valley Aquarium Society). Our members have linked to it in previous posts. I believe that they have a meeting coming up in Fairfax the first week of September. They're a good group of folks.
zygote2k August 20, 2014 August 20, 2014 3) 5" fish in a 40g breeder? If that was a saltwater tank, and those were tangs, the Tang Police would be knocking on your door. Get a bigger tank.
