monkiboy September 11, 2013 September 11, 2013 thanks for the update on things, tony! i really wish we had more of your posts, photos, and videos not just in this thread but on the board - you're doing awesome things, sir!
BowieReefer84 September 12, 2013 September 12, 2013 You noted sub par growth out of Garf Bonsai and Bali Tri-color. What acros/millis would you say are you seeing the best growth/color out of under the leds?
ridetheducati September 12, 2013 Author September 12, 2013 (edited) Various encrusting Monti Caps, numerous Milles, Granulosa, Del Fuega, and Red Dragon doing well. I have a total of roughly 33 corals and 2 or 3 are not meeting expectations. The Bonsai is growing, but it is not holding the deep purple color; looks more like a tri-color. I briefly had the Bonsai in the old system, which was powered by MH and the color was deep purple with green polyps. Under LEDs it is brown and blue with green polyps. I moved it around a few times, no change. A few posts ago, I mentioned the use of Rox in my system. I am finding that Rox is EXTREMELY aggressive on an ULNS w/carbon dosing. The plan is to move the Bonsai to a lower level and reduce Rox to one cup and change every six weeks. Edited September 12, 2013 by ridetheducati

monkiboy October 17, 2013 October 17, 2013 comeon tony, now we both know those photos look stellar! i've got to come over and learn how to take mediocre photos like yours thanks for the update and share. how are the fishies, any additions or changes?
ridetheducati October 17, 2013 Author October 17, 2013 I am probably the last person you want to get photography tips. I have a Solon Wrasse ready to come out of quarantine, probably will move him to the main display this weekend.
YHSublime October 17, 2013 October 17, 2013 That's a pretty modest take on your photography. If you think that's bad, I would hate to see what you have to say about some of my shots! Great photos, nice looking corals.

DCReefer1964 October 19, 2013 October 19, 2013 (edited) Thank You for sharing Tony. Excellent results using the LEDs . Strange about the Bonsai mine remained deep purple while all mt other corals suffered during their duration in a 150 gallon Rubbermaid container. When I did experience browning in the previous tank the RSM 130D I treated with 2 drops of iodine per day and she colored up! I would love to see the tank in person. I am probably just 15-20 minutes away. Edited October 19, 2013 by DCReefer1964
ridetheducati November 7, 2013 Author November 7, 2013 Well. Today is one year since the build got wet. I was digging through some old pix and was pleasantly surprised. The attached photo depicts an eight month span. I may take some non-cell phone pix this weekend.
YHSublime November 7, 2013 November 7, 2013 (edited) WOW. That is very impressive! If it wouldn't be too much trouble for you, I've copied a list of your corals from this times TOTM, would it be possible for you to correspond your letters from the pictures to the numbers below? I have seen several builds, yours included, that have led me to start planning down the road of lots of tabling acros, and it appears your tank has a few! 1. ORA Red Planet 2. ORA Pearlberry 3. Pink Lemonade 4. Becker's tort 5. Oregon tort 6. Fire-Ice tort 7. Palmer's Blue 8. Acropora efflorescens 9. A. gomezi 10. A. millepora 11. A. granuosa 12. A. valida 13. A. tenuis 14. Montipora capricornis 15. M. danae 16. Green Pox pocilopora Edit: The pics above should be a poster for all those who don't believe in LED's! I am very pleased that you were able to put this together. Edited November 7, 2013 by YHSublime
monkiboy November 7, 2013 November 7, 2013 yeah, wow is right! dude you got some special goods when it comes to growing SPS silly fast. glad the evergrows are working out well for you. and glad you got the no how to get it done. would love to see accurate photos of coloration. i really need to visit again one of these days, sir. thanks for sharing!
Cliff Puckstable November 7, 2013 November 7, 2013 That is some insane growth, mate. I'm going back to read your secrets thread more carefully.
ridetheducati November 8, 2013 Author November 8, 2013 When I thought I had this camera thing resolved, more crap. What I see is not what I get. This is really close to actual. The Hulk mille and A. Simplex are truly an extremely bright green in my tank.
ridetheducati November 15, 2013 Author November 15, 2013 Good and bad news. Bad news first. I had a senior moment and over dosed Calcium when my intentions were to increase Magnesium. Not sure what I was thinking, Mag flakes do not remotely look like Calcium Chloride powder. LOL. Calcium currently at 500 ppm, so I took the CaRX offline until Calcium drops to 420 ppm. Probably will take two weeks to drop 80 ppm. My system consumes approximately 2 dkh per day, so I will be manually dosing alk, which I hate. Good news. Five days ago, I started dosing KNO3 to raise Nitrates to 2 ppm and I am starting to see the Red and Pink colors on the Del Fuego and Red Planet get deep and rich. No color changes over Yellow, Green, Purple, or Blue.
roni November 17, 2013 November 17, 2013 Tony, Are you running biopellets? From what I remember, kno3 dosing was to offset overutilization of no3 relative to po4 in systems that carbon dose. I'm running into an imbalance as well and have thought about dosing kno3 as well. Roni
ridetheducati November 17, 2013 Author November 17, 2013 Not running bio pellets, however, I am carbon dosing. You are correct, KNO3 dosing is a procedure to correct a nitrate limited system.
howaboutme November 17, 2013 November 17, 2013 Not running bio pellets, however, I am carbon dosing. You are correct, KNO3 dosing is a procedure to correct a nitrate limited system. Did you choose to dose KNO3 (as opposed to NaNO3) to raise your NO3 because that is your preferred method of raising NO3 or because you want or need to raise potassium too (or both)?
ridetheducati November 17, 2013 Author November 17, 2013 Vodka and vinegar mix are my carbon if choice. From the omniverse.
ridetheducati November 17, 2013 Author November 17, 2013 KNO3 helps with maintaining K, but I reliy on my normal K dosing regimen. NANo3 would work but I have a pound of KNO3, which will last a lifetime. From the omniverse.
