smallreef November 29, 2011 November 29, 2011 Well, I haven't moved to town yet, but I was wanting to get ready and introduce myself before I get there in February. I'm Kim and I have been in the SWF hobby for over 6 years now.. havent had a tank for the last 2 years thinking we might move before this.. I've been a full time student for the last 2 years so that partially was the reason I took down my 125g FOWLR.. miss them a bunch.. had most of my fish for over 4 years, since I had set up my first 35g custom tank. I can't wait to get moved and get started up again.. I built my last stand so that wont be a problem but I will probably only do a 75g tank since we will be renting a house... Just wanting to get a feel for the people, get to know the good places to go, and join a community I know I have something in common with, lol
Der ABT November 29, 2011 November 29, 2011 Picked a good one, Wamas has a good an active community, know where you moving to yet? Where you comin from Lotta coral junkies here, me included but several with the fish addiction mixed in. anyways welcome
smallreef November 29, 2011 Author November 29, 2011 Coming from Washington State moving to Woodbridge, VA.. smack dab inbetween my and my husbands commute.. so its equal, lol Never had too many corals,, some mushrooms and ric and zoos (had alot of triggers and tangs in my last tank).. Getting excited to move though..
dbartco November 29, 2011 November 29, 2011 Welcome to the community. There are lots of reefers all around the VA, MD and DC area. Lots specifically in Woodbridge as well. You're always welcome in our BBmember area of the boards. Ask questions from fish tanks to housing to restaurants in your new area. Our most active area of the boards tends to be in the FS/WTB forums. Those are restricted on our site to the paid member viewing. So, when you get into town and are ready, you may consider joining as a paid member to take advantage of all the sales. Trust me, it will be well worth your investment in setting up your new tank. Good luck with the move and we will be here when you land.
Guest thefishman65 November 29, 2011 November 29, 2011 Welcome, I look forward to meeting you and your family.
FearTheTerps November 29, 2011 November 29, 2011 Welcome to the club. As Doug has already said it really is worth it to join the club as a full member. Since you dont currently have a set up you could probably find a complete system here for sale. Seems like someone is always upgrading or getting out, you are sure to find a great deal and make back that 20 bucks very fast.
Coral Hind November 29, 2011 November 29, 2011 Welcome to WAMAS. I think you will find this a great community with lots of experience and knowledge.
smallreef November 30, 2011 Author November 30, 2011 He was one of my babies I had for 4 years.. had him, a niger, a clown and a blue jaw :( (not to mention my goldstripe maroon pair) They used to rub my hand when Id put it in the tank .. scared the heck outta my mom when she came to visit once, lol
smallreef November 30, 2011 Author November 30, 2011 The Kitsap Peninsula.. across the water from Seattle..
Chad December 6, 2011 December 6, 2011 Kitsap area... I spent some time there from 2000-2004 when I was stationed on a sub, is The Shark Reef still a good LFS? Welcome!! Glad to have you! (By they way, it is a sign of a true addict that seeks out a new fish club prior to actually moving!! )
Origami December 6, 2011 December 6, 2011 My family spent some time there when my Dad's ship (the USS Ranger) was in drydock in Bremerton while I was growing up. We started out our several months there by camping in Illahee for almost two months, and then moved to a place on Warren Avenue outside the base. It's been decades, but I have great memories from back then. As an adult, I've gone back several times over the years to support activities and projects out of Ft. Lewis.
smallreef December 6, 2011 Author December 6, 2011 Yeah Eric still has the Shark Reef.. still the best LFS on the Peninsula and outside of Seattle! Yeah Im an addict.. after tearing down the tank I had bought from Eric (my 150g acrylic was his old show tank that he replaced with a starfire glass tank) and getting ready to move I want another tank!! its been almost 2 years without one.. and I still go to his shop to walk around and get my fix, lol
smallreef December 6, 2011 Author December 6, 2011 My husband is being transferred and I am still going to school (ODU) to get my CPA.. so I follow wherever he goes, lol.
Chad December 6, 2011 December 6, 2011 Ahh, I gotcha. Navy? I am still active duty Navy, though my assignment here is fairly permanent.
smallreef December 6, 2011 Author December 6, 2011 Yeah... we're thinking 3-6 years.. then its a matter of how much we like it there.. and when I finish my CPA and if I get a good job after
davidm December 6, 2011 December 6, 2011 Welcome to WAMAS. Both my wife and I went to UW (as graduate students) and her family is from Ellensburg, so we go back to WA state often. My wife would kill me for writing this - but this is by far the better Washington! Cheers, David
Sharkey18 December 6, 2011 December 6, 2011 Welcome! This club is great. Looking forward to meeting you. I also lived in Washington State, Seattle area from 91' to 94'. Hope to meet you soon! Laura
smallreef December 7, 2011 Author December 7, 2011 I have to say life on the Kitsap Peninsula is COMPLETELY different than anywhere else in WA... I love living in a relatively rural community and being able to take a ferry over the Seattle or B.C. or go to the Herbfarm (the only 5 star restaurant in the whole NW).... and being within a few hours drive from wineries and mountains to snowboard makes it fun for me! the only downside out here is the beach.. we have it.. its just FREEZING COLD water, lol and rocks instead of sand... SO that will be one of my favorite things about moving back to the east coast.
