  1. Crazy stuff... Next people will be dropping bird turds in their tank periodically to "simulate nature"...
  2. That is what caused my power pole to snap...big tree came down on the wire, something had to give.
  3. I always go with the plain black plastic aquarium backgrounds I buy at LFS (Petco)...easy to remove, not permanent, and looks good.
  4. Thanks for the offer....I managed to con my neighbor into letting me run an extension cord to his house indefinitely. I am good now. I expect this is going to take a long, long time to get fixed...I will be happy if I have power next weekend. They are obviously going to have to replace the entire pole. There must be 50-100 (phone, cable, power) wires there. It is hard to see them all in the pic.
  5. Here is the view of my driveway and my former power pole (supplying power, cable, phone, and internet...) I think I'm gonna be "down" for a while. Gotta try to find one of those battery pumps.
  6. The power pole 2 feet from my property snapped. I have nothing, and won't for a long time. Where do people get those battery pumps? I need one...
  7. Larry who used to work at Roozen's said he had a couple 20+ year old hippo tangs at his house. I can't recall how big he said they were, but I think it was something like a dinner plate. Um hum, yep.
  8. I don't think LR needs light. I keep all my extra in the dark sump.
  9. nope You'll see anything from 2x to 50x
  10. Yikes, that is scary.
  11. I've never seen one in the wild...probably because of those huge puffers...
  12. You said it... I don't dive, but I get that very impression every time I snorkel. I saw colonies of sun corals on a shipwreck in Aruba that covered at least a 10'x10' area on shaded interior walls, as well as those giant puffers, some 2' long parrot fish, and many other common aquarium fish that were huge. And then there are schools...I saw schools of thousands of fish. Seeing these animals in their natural habitat and size really gives me perspective.
  13. I had the same experience...mid 90s for me and FW. Their FW stuff especially was awesome. They would have tanks full of african cichlids I couldn't find a single specimen of elsewhere.
  14. I was snorkeling last week in Curacao and Aruba, and 2 different times when poking my head under a big rock, I was face to face with a porcupine puffer that was substantially bigger than a basketball, when not puffed up. I had no idea they got that big. Most of my hand could probably fit in its mouth. I tried to get some pics with a cheap underwater disposable camera, they probably won't come out, but we'll see. I thought about trying to make it puff up, but couldn't find a 20' pole.
  15. I like aquarium Center also, used to go there a lot...but haven't been there for a long time...not sure how things are there now. LINK
  16. ummm...no it wouldn't?
  17. I was there yesterday and think the sign for that tank said something about the stand not being sound. All in all, even at reduced prices, I agree the prices are too high...I didn't buy anything. The store is still quite full.
  18. Another one bites the dust... Sad to see it. Despite their poor customer service, This place was good for FW.
  19. How are the metal pieces connected to each other?
