  1. I wouldn't try silicone if you are not getting a seal. It is kinda straqnge if it is clean and the gasket is in good shape that you cant get a seal. I sometimes wet the gasket before attaching it. I would try tightening it a bit more. But really it is pretty straight forward.
  2. Semper fi. Good luck in boot camp. Just take each day at a time. When you get back I am sure people will be around to hook you up and getting you started again. I will always help out anyone serving so what ever I can offer when you get back send me a PM. If you havn't been to the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico it is really well done and the Marines who will answer questions are all Marines that have served in combat. Marines are the best of the best. You will be part of greatness. Good luck
  3. I am going to do that nori idea as well. Tank looks great
  4. Dave do you still use a surge device. I am looking at different ones people have made and am considering adding a small one to my main tank if I can fit it. Reviving an old thread
  5. Looks great bud. What took you so long in getting the tank up and running? Looks great.
  6. I am very happy to hear this as well. I have a sump I got from Jeff a couple of years back and have been very happy with it. It is good to hear positive feedback.
  7. I got one from Pristine aquariums as well. I also got two flame scallops from them. I love the crab. It is fun trying to find it each day. Jason, Why do you say you may come to regret the purchase? Over time I want to get a couple of more scallops. I like the way they look and I think they help clean the tank.
  8. I dont believe turning off the pump will help because I have done this. I work a mid tonight and I will check out the thread Tom. Tomorrow I will also check the intake side closely. Thanks
  9. Well I dont think it is bubbles from my sump. My sump is probbably 5' long with two baffles and a settling area between where the water comes in and is suckd out. How would you determine if it is cavitation and how would you resolve this issue. I dont think it is caused from air being sucked from a vortex from the outflow. The intake area isn't that long but I will detach the valve clean it and check if this helps. It is not part of a closed loop and the pump feeds three tanks and they all get micro bubbles.
  10. A couple of months ago I redid my plumbing with a larger pump. I am now using a hammerhead and previosuly was using an Iwaki100. My main branch plumbing starts at 1.5" PVC and reduces to 1" in the branches that go to the various tanks. I had the pump slightly throttled back and had some micro bubbles in the tank. Just recently I opened the pump all the way and now I have more micro bubbles in my tanks. Anyone hae any idea what could be the cause. I really would rather not have to re-plumb the whole system. I especially dont want to do it if I dont know for sure were the air is coming from.
  11. depending on what your schedule is like you are welcome to stop over to get some ideas. I have a 210 ,54 and a 90 all set up to the same sump. I dont have anything to sell you but I certainly cold help give you some direction as to setting up. You can see various lighting on my 90, 54 and 210. There are a bunch of people on WAMAS who I am sure would happily do the same. David
  12. How much LPS frags. I have a bunch of frags. I would consider trading
  13. I go to the store frequently. I think it is family friendly, nice store. The owners are more knowledgable about the dogs and other animals and Zack is the person who runs the fish department. I have been in the hobby for a long time and didn't hear him giving any bad advice while I was there. I have been very impressed with the store and am happy I found it. I thought the selection they had was pretty good and the fish looked healthy. Not much in the way of SPS but he said they plan on building that up. He also said he was getting a whole bunch of clams in. I just bought a blue spotted jaw fish which I have been looking for, for a long time and got it for a bit over $80 which I feel is very reasonable. I also got 2 sand sifter gobies which are doing well. I personally like the store and my son loves playing with the rabbits which makes the trip with my kids much easier.
  14. Get tropical fish hobbiyist, play girl edition and post the pictures on the tank. This can slow the transformation down.
  15. Looking good so far. Can't wait to see the aquascaping
  16. I love and hate hearing these incidents. Very happy to hear you were GFCI protected. I need to install them. I think I will do that this week finally.
  17. I would say it isn't the best idea, but I dont think you will do any harm. If you have some delicate corals you they might not like the change but otherwise I think you should be okay. In the future if the same situation comes up, I would have probbably mixed a bit of each to make them all last longer and then when you switch over it wouldn't be a complete change. a bit late for that idea though.
  18. I would change everything. that tank looks horrible.
  19. Ussually the vinegar has to work over a period of time before it loosens things up. it would work much better for you if you let it sit overnight soaking.
  20. Wow Well all I can say is thanks for all the kind words. I really care a lot about the hobby and industry and am always working to improve. I have learnt so much from other WAMAS members and this learning will always continue. This is what I love about the hobby and hope to be able to give a bit back. As most of my friends are aware my time is very limited, but I do have plans for a couple of new products this year and am always happy to have new customers. I encourage people to check out my products on store shelves. Occasionally I will post very discounted prices on products, only if purchassed at the stores. I want to encourage people to go to the local fish stores. They are what keeps the hobby strong. Currently my products are on the shelves at two local stores and I plan on having my products at a couple more LFS this year. I encourage people to visit Petland Zack runs the fish department and has done a really nice job building up the salt water section. Roozens : Most people are familar with Roozens. They probbably have the best selection of fish in the area. Reef choice carbon and PhosBgone are used in an industrial size GSA media reactor on half of their tanks. Thanks again everyone for the kind words. This was a nice suprise.
  21. Wow that is very nice to hear. Is this person the tunzee rep for the area or is he a store owner?
