  1. To answer your question not all Calcium hydroxide (Kalkwasser, when mixed with water)is the same. Not all Calcium chloride,Sodium Bicarbonate or Magnesium is the same either. The purity is very important. I imagine Brightwell uses pure products, but I have not read the label or any spec sheets. I am sure of Reef Choice Kalkwasser because it meets or exceeds Food Chemical Codex specifications for purity. I am aware some companies sell calcium hydroxide which is of lower then food grade. The lower grades tend to cost less but in a reef aquarium can create problems. This link should be informative. Randy Holmes Farley about Kalkwasser
  2. 3 feet deep would be very nice. I would love that depth. Is it pre-drilled or are you going to drill it yourself?
  3. I agree but I tend to give myself a couple of inches from the top. This way I can put a short sweeping 90 with an overflow inside the tank. In my opinion this helps keep any film from accumulating on the surface. This picture may explain how I did it.
  4. Do you have anything in VA beach worth checking out. We are going to be at the VA beach for a week. We pass through Williamsburg on the way becuase my wifes parents live there.
  5. If it were me I would just take everything out of the tank. Give me some of the nice corals for holding. Start over making more and larger holes.
  6. Could you post an address. I would love to see the place if I was ever in the area. It looks like chesapeake is not far from Williamsburg?
  7. I didn't realize this was an issue. Good to know
  8. I love the anthias. Even though yellow tail damsels are not really schooling I like 5 of them. They are the not that aggressive, especially when you have a bunch of them, they add nice color are hardy dont get very large and in my opinion have nice personalities.
  9. I completely agree. Not only do they keep an excellent store they are also very knowledgable. I dont get there often but I love stopping in when I get the chance.
  10. I have two royal grammas in my 210, they are paired up though. I think it is hit or miss. If you decide to try it I would first acclimate the new one in the sump or something. This way when you put him in the new tank at least it is only the territory he has to get used to. Obviously removing the established one if possible for a bit is the ideal way.
  11. Hey bud sorry to hear this. That is a bummer. Strange thing the same thing happend with my copperband 2 weeks ago. He got sucked in m tunze
  12. If you need some carbon and Phosphate remover I will be happy to give you some before the move. All you would have to do is pick it up.
  13. Did you try taking the impeller out and cleaning it. maybe it isn't jammed but is getting some kind of interference. John from BRK is very knowledgable with Tunzees. I use the same system you have but for me whenever the alarm has gone off, it was because of the impeller.
  14. Well he actually does do some water changes just not much compared to many other stores. I once asked him about that, he didn't seem to have anything set in stone. He said you have to make some new salt water just because of bagging fish and taking water out of the system. Besides the tanks in between each row is a very large basin filled with a lot of water.
  15. I dont take gunk. In two of my tanks I have rubble areas. I think it is a good thing to do.
  16. Do you have to do it in one trip? If you can do it in two trips I think you would be better off. I would get a plastic swimming pool for kids( They hold maybe 200 gallons)and are cheap. Put all of your fish and corals and some of your live rock in the pool. Move the tank and any equipment not immediatly needed to NC. Set it up down there. Take some of your old water down to NC. I would run carbon and Phosphate remover in the temporary holding tank. Keep power heads in the holding tank and if you have an extra skimmer I would use that as well. The tank in NC I would set up and run your skimmer and carbon and PhosPhate remover as well. This way by the time you get the fish and bring them down south the tank has had a bit of time to clear up.
  17. Well I have always been a big supporter of them. Since I work at Andrews I go on my breaks all the time. This time if someone has something bad to say I have learned my lesson. Everyone is entitled to their opinion Jos and his brother Eric have always been very good to me and I actually appreciate their way of doing business. They always keep Reef Choice products on their shelves, and the second two rows of tanks which is 10,000 gallons is treated through a Grey Seas Aquatics industrial sized media reactor, which I fill with a couple of pounds of PhosBgone and carbon each month. I have mentioned that I would love to clean up the front acrylic tank but so far they are not going for it. I think that front tank could be a great advertisment for them. going to their store is always alot of fun.
  18. I think comparing prices is very important but not the only consideration. If price is the issue Buying 1 lb Pickling lime from terradesiac Mrs. Wages
  19. Thanks for the nice comments elbert. Cabrego, It appears you don't live that far from me. If you would like to come by and take a look at my setup, I would be happy to have you over. I feel Kalk is the easiest and most cost effective way to go. My ATO runs through my GSA Kalk reactor and has run without problems for years.
  20. Have you changed your bulbs recently or has the distance from the bulbs changed. My birdsnest change color and I believe it is based on lighting. My middle light is 400 watt 12k and my 2 outside lights are 250 watt 10k. One of my birdsnest is half pink and half brown. I have other corals one I dont know the name but as it has been growing towards the light the top half is now more purple and the bottom is more blue
  21. I have 2 yellow tangs a sailfin a purple and a kole tang. They all get along well. My tank is 210 gallons. I think alot depends on the size of the tank and when you introduce the fish. I think introducing them together is the best way to go. This way none of the fish have established territories.
  22. Wow I am sorry I hadn't seen this. I have tons of space and am not that far. If you need any help and still have stuff that needs to be put in aquariums I am off tomorrow and would be happy to make room for your stuff. Send me a PM if you still need help.

  24. I think on the back it gives directions about either using an acid or vinigear. I forget which. That being said if you are trying to reduce Phosphates I would suggest using GFO. It is a product which is used worldwide for drinking water as well as aquariums. Because of this it has a long history of success. It has also undergone alot of testing for drinking water and is in the process of testing for aquarium water.
