I'm in the process of setting up a 30G refugium for my 55. The 55 has been up and running for about four months now. After a hectic initial cycle in which I had no clue what I was doing, everything has come around nicely (thanks to the helpful reefers on wamas.org). I've just added 50lbs of SD and my water. I'm going to throw in 10# +/- of live sand here in the next day or so. I've got a refugium culture kit on hold which will be shipped as soon as I'm ready..... My question is, when will I be ready? Should I let the fuge go through a cycle with the live sand/rock before adding the culture kit? When should I hook up the pump to my main tank in order to start reaping the benefits? Thanks.

Craig, I would really appreciate it. I've got about a 6-7" dsb at the moment and I can't think but how bare it looks without any life to inhabit it. I've been lookin online at these detrivore kits and 60-99 bucks sounds a bit steep on a teachers salary. Perhaps we could make arrangements when it's conveinient for you. Thanks for the help. I'm in the process of cycling my tank and I was wondering if anyone had any sand that they might be willing to part with to help my seed my dsb. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm looking for a couple of bags of southdown. I've contacted pretty much every home depot within an hour and a half of Fredericksburg. Anyone know where I can get some or does anyone have a couple of extra bags that they'd be willing to part with. Thanks
