  1. Dave, I was going to bring Doug some mini tapetums. Would you like some as well? Garrett.
  2. hold on a sec... you mean they need water???
  3. Let's just say that I prefer to take my business elsewhere. Garrett.
  4. I live in Fredricksburg. For me it is easier and more cost effective to go to Petsmart. They price match their online prices. I just print out the price from their website and take it in. Sorry Johnny, if you guys were closer I would give me money to BRK. Garrett.
  5. I've got plenty of endcaps/standoffs if you need them. Garrett.
  6. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=102605 There's a bunch. Randy Holmes Farley is an unbelievable hobbyist resource, almost on par with Chip... not quite though. Maybe start here???: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php If you figure any of it out, let me know. I'm just a lowly math teacher and chemistry ain't my thing (neither is language and/or grammar).
  7. Chip, no manifold for me. I'm too low tech for all that fancy stuff. For me it's undergravel and air pumps all the way... Ummm.... Oh yeah, are you going to the frag meeting? Garrett.
  8. Doug, I'll bring you one one way or the other. If you find me something, great, if not, no sweat. G.
  9. Hey Doug, you want all three mangroves? I'm not really doing SPS these days. Eats up way too much room in my little tank.
  10. I also have three mangroves that I've been growing for about 2 years now. They are starting to impede upon my fixture over the sump so they have to go. A frag would be nice, but free might work for me too. Garrett.
  11. yep
  12. Generally a high flow area is best. When I'm lazy (much too often), I just dump it close to the submerged return pump. I'm sure this does wonders for my pump. When I'm being responsible I dump it if front of a modded maxi-jet which disperses it fairly quickly. Reason being to avoid any localized ph spikes. Garrett.
  13. Well said Chris. I'm sure there is a fair amount of scientific evidence to prove/disprove the benefits of one or the other. Not to mention more anecdotal advice than you could ever digest. In the end in a closed system God (that's the reef keeper in this case) has more to do with the health of the tank than whether or not the tank has a DSB or is BB. Me, I prefer the look of a sand bed. So my main tank has 4-6" of SD. And for ease of cleaning, my frag tank is set up BB. Garrett.
  14. Unfortunately my meager teaching salary doesn't allow me to even consider those fancy fixtures. Instead I gotta go the retro route. Try Greg at ReefGeek. Great guy to deal with.
  15. With individual reflectors... no problem. Have you seen the par numbers on RC that Grim posted? Scary....
  16. Jimmy, IMO 6 x 24 would be serious overkill. To be honest, I would go with 2x24w with individual reflectors. Would be more than enough on that size tank. Garrett.
  17. Mother colony of cyphastrea decadia: Mother colony of blood red eyes cyphastrea: Picture of clove polyp (impossible for me to get an accurate image with my limited skills): Red blastos: Some red and green blastos I could be persuaded to part with or frag (I've never fragged blastos): Galaxia: Frogspawn: Pink ricordia florida (again, can't get an accurate pic) I think that's it. Only looking for LPS (acans/micromussa) and zoanthids. Please pm if interested. Garrett.
  18. Let's see... I've got some nice bright red blastomussa wellsi polyps for trade. The frag has three good sized (quarter+) polyps and a few babies. One small frag of cyphastrea decadia http://www.reeffarmers.com/limitedcyphastrea.htm (just glued last weekend) and one small frag of this cyphastrea: http://www.reeffarmers.com/limitedbloodredcyphastrea.htm Also have a few polyps of the green center clove polyps that Ming at Atlantis used to sell for $10 a polyp. I'll try to get some pics up later this week(end). Only looking for LPS (acans/micromussa) and zoas. Garrett.
  19. Chris, I think I about flipped the first time I had a precipitation event like this. It has since happened again (more than once). In the end it isn't a big deal. Check out this article: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-07/rhf/index.php I'm sure Chip will agree with everything that Dr. Randy Holmes Farley says. Garrett.
  20. Looks great Eddi. Do you still have the big tank in the basement? Glad to see you around. Garrett.
  21. Here's my opinion. If you're sold on using XMs with VHO actinics I'd go with 20k. Not the crisp white you're looking for but here's why: From Sanjay's website 400W XM 20k on a M59 ballast: Notice the huge peak at 450nm. VHO actinics peak at 420nm, making a nice complement. IME I don't use XM 10k with VHO actinics as XM 10k (on an M58 ballast) spike at 420nm, conflicting with the VHO actinics. Instead I use T5 blueplus lamps. Ahhhh... the horror of it all. Garrett.
  22. Bob, I've got a coral beauty in my mixed reef (including a squammie). He picks at the rockwork continuously. If I ever saw him licking/kissing/making sweet love anything other that the rocks he would be ostrasized. Who knows what he's doing while nobody is looking? Garrett.
  23. I would do 100% water changes weekly on a tank that size. Garrett.
  24. Where are you located? What type of system are you looking to set up (full reef, fish only, etc)? Garrett.
  25. 50/50 oceanic and IO. I don't even know if it is in vogue any longer. I'm sure there is some new combination that is hot these days. Garrett.
