  1. 2" araganite special grade reef sand
  2. I have a Kole tang in an 80 gallon. He is one of two fishes, the other is a mystery wrasse. I don't think think he has grown a half inch since I got him.

  4. If you are running a canister filter or reactor I would guess 2 weeks to a month. Depends how dirty the water is. The carbon is exhausted when it has absorbed a certain amount of waste. I have heard that it continues to remove trace elements after it is exhausted but I don't have a way to confirm that. I believe you will remove the toxic material that corals produced when they fight another coral. That's my opinion. It will also clear the water so light should penetrate further and brighter. the change in light penetration could stress some corals.
  5. Things are coming along great. I had to use some red sea Aptasia-x on a couple of tiny aptasia. The worst of my problems are vermetid snails. But they are not so bad. All the LPS and soft corals are continuing to grow. I have only a couple of SPS. I lost some small heads of rainbow frogspawn to vermetid snails. I don't dose anything and do a water change once a month or so. I change out the filter socks every week and clean the skimmer cup at the same time. I use the mag float with the razor attachment to clean the glass. I don't have any cyano or algae issues. No bubble algae or hair algae. No cyanobacteria outbreaks. I feed every day rods reef food frozen food. I am not able to add any fish or shrimp or clam. I blame it on the fishes I have which are a mystery wrasse and a kole tang. There is no point of buying a shrimp or fish where there is little hope of survival. I need to get some newer pics up. David
  6. Is there a dip for Vermetid snails?
  7. I think carbon in a reactor or canister filter is a good idea. You could try polyfilters also.
  8. Maybe eggs. possible snail eggs?
  9. The Canary blennie looks like neat fish
  10. Hello I am wanting to add a fish. I have not had luck with shrimp, anthias, blue spotted jawfish, fromia starfish, fire shrimp, skunk cleaner shrimp, All I have now are mystery wrasse, yellow eyed kole tang, nassarius snails a few sps, 2 types of hammer, frogspawn, bubble coral, sarcophyton, torch hybrid, yuma, acans, 2 types of trumpet. I would like a flame hawkfish. What would you recommend adding?
  11. Merry Christmas everyone, David
  12. Here is an update. I believe I have vermetid snails. The mystery wrasse and kole tang kill any fish, shrimp or starfish I have added but they leave the corals alone. Here are the pics Coral frag from the fall frag swap Thanks for Viewing David
  13. Do you have a reactor you can run carbon in? Also can you be sure you don't have a large alk swing or maybe AEFL? What did you alk test results say? Also did lighting intensity increase which might harm the SPS? David
  14. Update- the only fishes are a mystery wrasse and Yellow eyed kole tang I added a shrimp a few months back but it didn't last for long. Not sure if I should blame the wrasse. Corals are all doing nicely. Watching the growth is exciting. I am only skimming and running the 2 filter socks. I clean the skimmer and put new filter socks every Tuesday. I would like to add a few SPS but would be sure to dip in Coral RX. I do not want to dose or run a ca reactor So It would be 1 or 2. Maybe ORA sps Verde or Some that are listed easier. I removed the modded maxi jet from the tanks left side. It was too much flow for the LPS. I have seen no cyano or other algae appear with the lesser flow. I have the MP40 on the right side of the tank. It is on a battery backup so its my insurance if there is a power outage.
  15. Looks like it is stomatella to me also. nice to have one.
  16. I have 2 on my Innovative marine sr80. I change 1x per week.
  17. Two Little fishes brand
  18. I would go with 2 vortechs MP40 and add the battery back up to protect your livestock if the power goes out. David
  19. Dr.Tims did not work for me, once I added live rock I started to see the cycle going. 2 pieces of rock from the Marine scene did it for me. Good luck with your cycle.
  20. I have the SR-80. No complaints.
  21. Does the unit have De-ionization filter stage?
  22. Minimum tank size per liveaquaria.com is 30 gallons
  23. I would do a reef octopus hang on back skimmer with a whisper 3 hang on filter for carbon and surface agitation. top off by hand. This would be a quiet set up. you could add a ecotech Mp10 with battery backup if you lose power it will keep the water moving and save your creatures.
  24. Welcome back, I got some corals from you in the past. You can see my latest build in the dedicated tank build thread under David's SR-80 David
