  1. I have a neon green leather that has grown to almost a basketball size and needs trimming. I was thinking of cutting it at the base to remove a large portion of it.....has anyone done this and what did you use to cut it? Thanks for the advice, Darren Ps. Anyone want the cut piece?
  2. I have a 150g tank and have nassarius snails that live in my sand bed. They reproduce all the time as I see their egg clutches on my tank walls, but I don't think they touch the starfish. Do you think a single harlequin shrimp could live in a 150? I have a ton of these stars all over the tank Darren
  3. I don't mind the population....just wondering if I have a free /easy food source for a interesting addition to the reef. I don't mind them at all and they don't seem to bother my corals.... Darren
  4. I have a large population of asterina starfish and I was thinking of purchasing a predator to control their growth....I hear harlequin shrimp work, but I was wondering how many starfish the shrimp would eat in a day? I don't want to buy more starfish, so I only want a predator that can live off of my existing starfish (I have well over a hundred in the tank). Any thoughts or experiences to share? Thanks, Darren
  5. Mine is 2-3 inches. It is the really fine white sand and I stir it every week. After 2+ years the sand still looks brand new. If you don't stir the sand it will get pretty dirty over time. Darren
  6. I've purchased from him as well and I have found his fish are healthy and very well priced. He also texts me when he gets a new shipment! Cool guy to work with for sure, Darren
  7. None, the upside is that I don't run my heaters as much so I save power. I hate keeping my tank warm when I am running my ac at the same time. Especially when it doesn't seem to bother my corals or fish. Darren
  8. 75-76 year round......down from 78 which I did for over a decade. Darren
  9. I have had a large skimmate locker for over 5 years and never once needed it till a week ago…..I came home to my skimmer pump off and the locker was full (i run a large external protein skimmer) and I had almost 15 gallons in my ATO, which means the locker prevented 15 gallons of water being dumped onto the floor of my basement. After all these years it still works as advertised…..worth every penny….. thanks AVAST! Darren
  10. I got the kit two weeks ago and it has been up and running for the past week and works great! thanks, Darren
  11. I was thinking about this as well....I'm worried that the weight might be too much for my living room without reinforcing the floor from my basement. I could use the step area to create a nice hiding space for the fish though
  12. I am looking for a custom tank builder to build a unique tank. Specifically, I am looking for a step down tank that is glass that is 4 feet deep, 3 feet wide and 3 feet long. The step down would be at 1.5 feet and the down step would be 2 feet. Any recommendations? Thanks, Darren
  13. Hello Avast, I purchased a large reactor build kit from you guys. I got the order confirmation, but haven't got any shipping notice.....any idea when you plan to ship the kits? Thanks, Darren
  14. Does your tank have a grounding probe? Darren
  15. I can't turn the flow too high as I will blast the sand everywhere. My big problem is dead spots....gyre effect works great in an empty tank, but with my rockscape I get lots of dead spots. Does tunze make nano sized pumps that are variable? Thanks for the ideas, Darren
  16. I have a 150DD with a minimalist rocks scape and a decent amount of sand in the tank (about 1.5 to 2 inches deep)……I have been using 2 gyres (the smaller model), but I would like more flow control to deal with some dead spots in the tank…..I have to keep the flow at the bottom of the tank low so that I don't create mounds of sand with bare spots in the tank, that said I feel like I am blasting the top of my tank, but the middle is not getting enough flow. I would also like more variable flow regimes. I only want pumps on the back of the tank to keep the minimalist feel to the equipment in the tank. I have been thinking about going with several small power heads to have greater control of flow, but I can't' find good reviews on small variable pumps. I can't use MP 10s as my glass is too thick and the vortech line only allows me to shoot flow forward. I could dial down my gyres and add some small flow pumps, but they need to be quiet as the tank is in my living room (my current setup is very quiet). Any ideas / thoughts would be greatly appreciated….. thanks, Darren
  17. Nice corals Ben, sadly I won't be at MACNA this year…..
  18. I will stop but your booth..... Darren
  19. I currently run my tank from 76 to 77 degrees and am thinking of lowering it to 75 to 76 degrees.....how low do others run their tanks? Any thoughts / opinions? Thanks for the insights, Darren
  20. Tank looks great....thanks for sharing Darren
