  1. I finally added a second pump to my MTC HSA 2000. Used to run it with both towers fed by a single iwaki 55 rlt, now each tower has a dedicated pump. So it's finally running at peak performance. The improvement is actually easily noticeable, I can no longer see the water in my tank. It's ridiculously clear. And the gunk it's pulling out is absolutely disgusting. However I'm now worried. Is it possible that doing this (running a skimmer that's rated for 2000 gallons on a ~300 gallon system) will cause some problems in the future?
  2. Oh dear. I could do it. No idea how to code the angel and profiluX though
  3. No, that's correct. My heaters turn off at -.1 degree from RT. The fans chill to RT.
  4. And as an example of some programming, here is my virtual day heat outlet for the 500w heater. There's four of them for two heaters, day and night respectively. If Temp < RT+-0.5 Then ON If Temp > RT+-0.2 Then OFF If Time 22:00 to 10:00 Then OFF This has the large heater turn on if the temperature is more than 0.5 degrees off from the season table during the day, from 10am to 10pm. It will turn off when the temp is less than .2 degrees from the season table. The second heater picks up at 0.3 degrees off the table and turns off at 0.1 The cooling is also programmed to kick in when temp is 0.1 above the table and to turn off at 0 difference. Of course this also changes at night.
  5. Just saw this thread and I'm absolutely for this idea. In fact, when I was figuring out how to program the new apex, I had this exact wish in my head. Something along the lines of "I wish Wamas had a "controller programming" forum. Even though it's possible to find everything you could want and more on other forums, it would be awesome to have it here on Wamas as well. It shouldn't be difficult at all to create another section in general discussion with subsection threads for common equipment and perhaps one for advanced programming. Example: It took me hours of research to figure out what the RT function does exactly. And hey, did you know that typing in rt instead of RT while coding will not work? Having a local forum for this could also promote the community. I know I'd feel much more comfortable reaching out to someone I've met personally for programming help instead of posting something on neptune forum and hoping some random doesn't flame me for not knowing something simple. I'm sure it wouldn't get populated quickly. But it would be incredibly useful.
  6. I recently discovered the Profilux forum on RC and gotta say. Had no idea that it even existed. And that's after 8 months of stalking Wamas. I know they're expensive, but in the scheme of things... Anyhow. Anyone use one? Or have any reason to like it more than the apex?
  7. Fair enough. Life definitely can get busy, that's for sure. Yeah, moving the tank was the best idea. it made everything so much easier. And even though I lost about 5x8' of living room space, it actually works better now. Unfortunately, the one thing that's too true and I'm having a problem accepting is that this tank is too big for this house. I'm giving it a year maybe.. Maybe more before I have to move. But I should have gone with a 75-90 max. Now I know better
  8. I saw a thread somewhere at some point where the guy took a fork and bent one of the teeth out and used that as a makeshift press.
  9. Oh wow. Yeah, .25w per led isn't much at all. This wouldn't even compare to an evergrow fixture. Even though watt rating isn't the best way to judge, the entire 96 led fixture would put out as much wattage as 8 3watt led's. Sad really. Would be awesome for a fowlr though.
  10. Well, it certainly looks promising. And for under $200 for a 48" fixture with 96 led's? That's a great deal! An evergrow it2080 has 99 led's (it's also 36") and it's programmable as these, but it's around $500 or so new. Wish they had more information on the led's used in this system. If they did, would be much easier to judge it.
  11. Ehh. Ok. It's safer not to move tank with sand in it and if it doesn't bother you, get rid of the sand bed. I just like all my brittle stars too much to kill them. You can reuse the sand... BUT! Clean it thoroughly first. Like .. I reused some sand that was being given away here on Wamas, but it was quite dead by the time I got it. So: Freshwater rinsed it for about a day, stirring all up and dumping water. Soaked in FW overnight Another day of rinsing Soaked in FW + vinegar overnight Another day of rinsing Completely drained freshwater and rinsed with old tank water about 10 times. Soaked in saltwater for 5 days with heater and ph Rinsed again in old tank water about 10 times. Added sand to fuge. In reality, it would have been way easier and probably cheaper to just buy new sand, but I got this one free! :-/ My tank certainly enjoyed a 110 gallon water change within 2 weeks. Anyway. I digress. You Could Sell Everything! Just make sure she knows that you're starting over as soon as possible! Time for that 300 DD upgrade!
  12. Hmm. I take it both of the above are SPS frag tanks. I may go that route in the future. For now, I can turn up the return flow into the tank to be much much higher than a wp25 could be. So, one ph and return pump
  13. So it seems that this build is wrapping up very quickly. Finally finished the aesthetic part of it all (you'd think I'd have done that way early!) All the equipment is in place, just some small finishing touches and it's going to be time to sit back, invite some friends, open some beers and watch the fish! Some of the latest pictures: The tank, in it's finished stand with a door of sorts to the "fish room" The frag tank, right behind that door. Behind the scenes. This still needs some cleanup and care, but overall, now I have a hiding space in the house.
  14. Well.. You would have to be careful. Carry it gingerly. Set it on blankets. Drive like an old senile greatgrandma and practice extending the conversation finger to the impatient children driving behind you. Perhaps you're right. I moved my tank in this fashion and it's a 210 gallon tank. Nothing died or got stirred up, but it was only moved within the house. Driving it would be more difficult. However I've read plenty of threads where people move smaller tanks like this and don't break them. Is 90 a small tank? My sense of tank size perception is guided by the olympic swimming pool that's sitting in my living room. Perhaps a 90 is a big tank.
  15. That highly depends on how it's going to be moved. If it's not going far, maybe half hour or hour away and if it can stay vertical the whole way (aka the tank doesn't need to be turned any direction while it's being moved, as in turning it sideways to get up stairs etc) I'd go this route. Then when it's in the new house, dump some fresh saltwater in there around half full, put in a powerhead and heater and get it back to speed. Some things will die. Sure. But majority of the problems will be taking care of by your still live rock and perhaps testing every other day and dosing prime as necessary to bind ammonia/nitrite/nitrate while your system can process it. It's certainly better than losing an established sand bed.
  16. 90 eh? Depending on how far you have to move (mind you, this is dangerous, will break your tank, will cause your hair to turn white, you will definitely be eaten by a shark after doing this and I might get killed by a Wamas ninja for saying it) but you could get a 100 gallon tub, put all your rock in there, catch all fish and bag them, bag corals as well when you can, otherwise wedge rocks they're on in the tub so they don't move. THEN! Drain all your water, leaving the sandbed intact. Leave about 1/4" of water higher than the sandbed, then get a couple strong people and move the tank with sand/water still in it. You will have to be careful it doesn't get stirred up a lot. You will need to test for nitrates and treat with prime accordingly. This will more than likely void your tank warranty if your tank breaks and you tell the company how it broke. I'm going to be hiding from the Wamas assassins in the closet or in the attic. With a shotgun.
  17. I think freshwater would be awesome. Way easier for one. And there's something just.. mesmerizing I think is a good word for it... about a large planted tank.
  18. You're gonna make that amazing starphire tank into a fowlr????????? Say it isn't so. Here are steps. First, move everything into the new tank. It'll be your reef. Second, start thinking about fowlr. Honestly, I don't think you need much. Lighting doesn't matter, so just choose what makes you happy. A sump would be good just in general, but not necessary either. Can do canister or something silly like that, but 150g is a lot of water for a canister. So sump. Skimmer is a good idea always, but you won't need the power of big skimmers on a fowlr.
  19. Hmm. Fair enough. I had old controllers on my wp40's so didn't realize they've updated the flow speeds
  20. But, if I just turn it down, I can only do that in the constant flow mode, right? So what's the difference with just buying a cheap powerhead instead of a jebao...
  21. I can't decide. Worried that the 25 will be overkill, but for some reason they're cheaper on amazon. Any thoughts?
  22. I love this build! Everything looks fantastic! Awesome to see coral growth and fish growth is always great to notice
  23. Thanks, I went and picked up a couple packets of each seven and 10 solution. Figured first time I'd rather use the commercial one, since they are cheap. Once I get comfortable with it I'm sure I'll try the Borax
  24. Never mind..... Looks like I'm an idiot. The controller set it's time zone in pacific and not here when I reset it. Well DUH!!! Makes perfect sense why it wasn't turning off.
