  1. I thought this was the weirdest thing. A large (1") piece of red seaweed fell off of a clip while I was feeding the fish and the Duncan coral grabbed it as it was floating by and it seems to be attempting to eat it. Not sure if it's going to let it go, but the head that grabbed it is closed up around it now. Weird.
  2. Same as above with suggestions... Those parameters are perfect, so nothing to say there. Maybe something is picking on it... Doesn't look like it though.. I'd take Isaac up on his frag tank suggestion. Somehow with my system, some corals do amazing in the frag tank and when they go in the display, they just refuse to open/look like they are dying.. Back in the frag tank and they open right back up.
  3. Looks insane. It definitely shows the scope of the project a bit better with the wall gone. And I suggest the valves for a good reason.. The cost difference will be a whopping $20-40 depending on how many you're getting vs unions. And I've redone my plumbing enough times to absolutely hate disconnecting anything. Every time I do, I get half a cup of salt water to catch before it hits carpet
  4. I'd just put true union valves on every place you'd want to disconnect when moving the sump. That way you could make sure you don't get any remaining water leaking out of the pipes on the floor when everything is disconnected and they're easy to clean if needed.
  5. Shiny! Can't wait to start seeing it go in the wall and get ready for water!
  6. Doesn't look too bad. Built in night mode is nice if you want it. And it's the same as having a bunch of big controllers for mp40's mounted everywhere. Up to 8 pumps connected in master/slave is nice.
  7. Wow, just read through the whole thread. Interesting problem you're having. I use the mighty mite rodi unit, have been for about 8 months now, it's supposed to make only 50g per day and I'd bet I've made over 1000g with it. My tap water tests at ~150-200 tds depending on the day and it's still reading at 2 coming out of ro and 0 coming out of di all the time. I'm not an expert on denitrification, but I can say that I don't have problems growing chaeto with slow flow through my fuge and a $30 daylight par38 bulb from lowe's. Everything is growing in there. I have chaeto, caulerpa and now a mangrove all tied up and I'd say I double the chaeto/caulerpa once a week. So about a soccer ball size clump every week. Granted I don't even know what my nitrate/phosphate readings are, but everything else is growing and happy.
  8. And I didn't see that you were looking at a diamond goby as well. Id get that over sleeper goby. However, make sure to cover your tank as it will jump. Not might, will. They really love the carpet surfing. Also, no sand on top of all rocks since they are nice about it and don't take huge mouthfuls of it and then swim to the top of the water column to dump it.
  9. I have both. Well. I have a golden head sleeper goby and a blenny. Of which type of blenny he is, that's still up for debate. Could be starry or perhaps a mix of starry and lawnmower which is probably not possible but it's the only thing that makes sense. Anyhow, I digress. They are completely fine and except for very occasional aggression from the goby when the blenny decides to perch on the rock that's the top of his cave.. No issues. However they do have a 210 gallon tank to live in. If I could do it again, I'd pass on the goby. The constant sand on top of all rocks is extremely annoying. Also, that goby will grow very quickly. And it needs a TON of sandbed area to be able to live well. Mine started off at ~2 inches about 5 months ago and now he's easily 4" long.
  10. I would dose prime every two days. It will bind all ammonia and nitrite and nitrate and the bacteria still will process it. That way your super toxic levels of everything don't kill off all the bacteria that's trying to catch up. Done this way, water changes aren't necessary as often. I'd dose that every two days for a week, then do a 100% water change, let it sit another few days, another large water change and then see how long you can go without touching it with a pump in there. No need for a skimmer. May I ask why you took all your display rock and are curing it? Shouldn't it already be cured since it's your display rock?
  11. Well that's what happened to me. And then I realized that I've never seen a post on Wamas about it. So I figured I'd throw it out there. The controller is ridiculous.
  12. More like 7 or 8 heads on the way. It definitely is just growing though. Congrats! Must be doing something (or looks like everything!) right!
  13. Aaaand from lack of response I assume that no one has one. And it's supposed to be the best thing out there too..
  14. It's very similar. I'm sure that there's a difference in output but the skimmer is handling the flow all too well, so the water level in the towers is almost equal
  15. Filled with water for a trial run!!! How much water will that be? Lol
  16. For a personal tour of the setup, I'd be happy to show you exactly how to post pictures You'll have to find a reason to stop by here at some point again too. It's all completely different from what it was like before.
  17. Here's what I would do: Download the attachments from your gmail into your computer/phone/iPad/whatever you use to post on here. Personally I prefer Tapatalk/iPhone because it automatically formats text/photos to look good. So no need to skip lines  Next, post the reply and then add the photos from your computer. Oh, with iPhone you'd tap and hold the photo, then select "save to library" from the new menu. From computer, you should just be able to download them to a folder of your choice.
  18. This is turning into an awesome build! I haven't been commenting, but I sure have been reading all the posts as soon as they go up. The level of planning here is amazing. And as far as your posts, for some reason when you were posting yesterday, I was getting a ridiculous amount of notifications, way more than was posted. Not sure if it's Tapatalk or something funky on your end, but honestly it's not a big deal.
  19. I completely agree. The only downside of this skimmer is the amount of power that it uses. Except for that, this thing is a complete success as far as I'm concerned.
  20. I wonder. This thing certainly has no problem pulling out gunk. At the same time, it's certainly possible that in a couple weeks it's just going to be a waste running it full time. If that happens though, I may experiment with only running it during the day or in 4 hours on/4 off schedule.
  21. A water change every month? Hmm. Novel idea. I go with this formula. I have a 5 gallon bucket of skimmate. Once a month or so, I dump it out. Then I fill up an equal amount of fresh saltwater and dump it in. I figure the salinity swing from losing 2 gallons of saltwater from my system is minimal. I am monitoring the skimmer for now though. Had to adjust a lot to accommodate an extra 1300gph flow through it.
