  1. I got rid of mine with upgrading skimmer, reducing food and livestock, and running aggressive GFO. Seems like you are on the right path it just takes a long time for the algae to starve out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. There are a ton of factors on the intensity question unfortunatly can't be answered. The factors: water clairity, how close LED fixtures are mounted together, distance from water to fixture, optic degree used, how many ripples are on water, etc. some people run theirs at 100% and claim it's not enough light. I run my whites at 25% and blues at 50%
  3. Could also try razor blade across flat part of plug as long as the coral is not encrusting around the plug.
  4. Is it a recent split? I would go to local aquatics store and buy mesh basket. Use old magnets to attach basket to glass. Maybe it will grow a foot while you are out of town.
  5. Ahi would love to meet the famous Mr saltwater tank. How do people from out of town get corals home? Can you fly with them
  6. Great idea! Give it a try and let me know results. I only started with $5 worth and don't have finiky fish so this is a nice treat for them. My LFS sells healthy buggers. Lol harvesting them isn't as bad as cleaning my skimmer.
  7. Don't make a big deal out of it or you will lose intrest since they don't reproduce fast enough to feed a lot. This is why i kept it simple and cheap.I don't do hardly any water changes any more, only changed the water for the pictures. I don't regulate temperature. No filtration. We don't even use air conditioning in the house unless it hits upper 80s however I do keep them in the basement (current temp 76) In the winter the basement gets cold and they don't seem to reproduce any faster.

  9. They are still flourishing and ultra low maintenance. I slacked on water changes and water turned bright green. The worms still seemed to enjoy the water quality. I feed about 15-20 worms a week and population remains steady. I did massive water changes to get the following pictures. In the first pic the worms are munching on algae wafers. Second is to show how much they love the dirt/algae they love to lay in. It accumulates over time and is filled full of worms. Still havnt needed to add new worms!
  10. I personally would attack it with running aggressive GFO and better skimming and cutting back on feeding. Not sure what that is! bryopsis algae maybe?
  11. Mandarin will completely wipe out a good population in a small tank in no time. They are pod killing machines. Pods are a great Part of the cleanup crew eating all the extra detritus and food.
  12. He said he didn't test immediately after. 1dkh in a matter of 5 min vs 1dkh in 20 hours could be a problem. Another thing is imagine dumping food coloring in a tank. It swirls around in huge concentrations until finally mixed, slamming into SPS in giant clouds shocking them. This is why I'm such a fan of the drip dosers. Super slow and steady wins the race here with sps. My alk number I have chased is now rock steady even on while on vacation and the results are awesome. I do think that the other theory's are very valid. I run my tank at 79 in summer no problem mon!

  14. I'll take two. What is the price range and where do they come from
  15. I get brown dusty chunks in my dead spots that I siphon out once or twice a month. Never seen black! Get it out without disturbing it too much
  16. Ha awesome never thought I would see my old stomping grounds pop up in wamas. I'll have to check out those next time I'm in town for family and rental properties
  17. Wow looking great keep them fish crop dusting the corals
  18. The elusive sunburst anemone. Watch, listen and take it in. Then PM me if you know anyone with a split lol http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VicPTFpXFoc
  19. Another thing that crossed my mind. If you decide to turn off skimmer, be sure to add air stone for oxygenation. This way the fish have plenty of O2 and you also won't affect your Ph
  20. Makes sense! One fish only needs a few flakes and the skimmer will take that tiny amount of pooh right out so I agree with both of you now. I agree that you may not need to dose also. I just assume that if someone is dosing, they have a mature tank and need to dose. If you need to dose, then use a doser. SPS require stable parameter. The goal is a solid number no swings what so ever. When dumping in alk, it may raise the PH or alk a bit to fast, causing stress to the sps.
  21. Is that ice enchinata on the left? Really sweet tank bub!
  22. Check out that color after the doser got hooked up!! So hot. Second pic is repaired STN and sweet polyp extension way more than I had ever dreamed of before using doser. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. I used to dump it in same exact way check out my results. check out the faded color. It also had STN at bottom. Skin flaking off now I'll send live pic of coral after a doser used Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. 18 gal sounds safe. Do you run the alk through a doser when adding to tank? This was my problem.
