  1. They can disappear for a few days when acclimating. I did tons of research on this before I got mine. I was unsuccessful with my first, but so far so good with my second. Just leave her alone. If you don't see a dead body floating around, she's still alive. -- Warren
  2. It's the same body of water, even if it is 2 separate overflows. The factory overflows are the same height. You can use one in each. One for main and one for emergency. This is no different than the folks that turn these same 4 holes into a Bean Animal setup. -- Warren
  3. I'm using 1" siphon and run a Jebao DC 12000 at 1/2 speed. I know it's not linear, but it maxes around 3000 gph. My gate valve is closed quite a bit. I have a straight drop though. I usually leave my emergency dry, but if I overfill a bit during WC, and get lazy with the mesh sock and let it go a week, I do see the level creep up and it'll trickle down the emergency. Anyways, it's a choice for you. I'm a noise freak, so it's really the only way for me.
  4. You already have 2 drains in each tank. My vote is to convert them to Herbie configs and never hear bubbles again. I don't think I could deal with a standard drain. Herbie or Bean Animal for me. It would be really easy. Let me know if you're interested and I can let you know how to rearrange the overflow pipes. You'd need one gate valve for each tank's siphon drain. -- Warren
  5. Google for rocketengineer's diy aquarium stand for ideas and more math than you wanna see. -- Warren
  6. Unfortunately, almost everyone, myself included, has bubble algae. I have a sharpened siphon device to suck them out every time I do a water change. Works reasonably well, and they don't multiply too quickly since I am running low on nutrients. -- Warren
  7. I don't think that stand is appropriate as is anyways. The entire weight of the rimmed aquarium is being held up by sheer forces against the screws. It needs reinforcement. I think it would be much easier to get some 2x4 and build a proper stand with a large center opening. -- Warren
  8. I switched to the milwaukee digital and haven't looked back. Hanna rebrands the same one and adds like $80. -- Warren
  9. Fed the fish this morning and when the Jebao RW pumps turned on, I heard a bizarre sound. Brrrrrapt, brrrrapt. My lawnmower blenny got stuck inside one of them when it turned back on. Sigh. I knew it was an issue because he loved eating the algae in there, but he usually are quickly and left them. One thing I really dislike about the new RW frame. -- Warren
  10. If you're looking at 200gallons of actual water volume, 12ml will hardly do anything. I do that much on my 90 display + 29 sump. The only side effect I notice is zoas closing up, and my magician palys are rockin a super cool bleached look, maybe due to the peroxide.
  11. Prince William gets water from Fairfax at certain times of year, so we also get dosed with chloramines. -- Warren
  12. I bought the best carbon block available from BRS weeks before they announced the new universal. Using the LaMotte test strips, I can see that I already have break through after not a whole lot of water. I bought the BRS universal after seeing this but I haven't swapped it yet since it is so cold outside. I usually do RODI filter swaps outside due to all the water. My RODI is setup in order: Small sediment filter Shurflo gold pump GE RO saver sediment filter Soon: BRS universal Dual DOW 75 gpd, for a total of 150 Refillable color changing BRS DI -- Warren
  13. They use DOW 75gpd membranes in their RODI setups. The sediment filter is a GE RO Saver on their nicer models. I've personally switched to this same filter setup, just with one BRS universal carbon stage instead of two. -- Warren
  14. Recirculating biopellet reactor for me. Super low maintenance. Way easier than when I was dosing Zeostart3. -- Warren
  15. I love my jebao pumps. I have ever had one fail. Either a return pump or wave maker. Have had 7 in various sizes. Using a dialed down 12000 as my return at the moment. There are other manufacturers taking Jebao's guts and repackaging them like deep water aquatics BLDC series, Aqua medic, and wads more. -- Warren
  16. Front to back for me. ATI bulbs. RB LEDs BP CP PP BP Actinic CP RB LEDs -- Warren
  17. Tricia's pic looks overexposed, so the colors aren't true. Look at the frag plugs. Besides, I wouldn't worry so much about the color, and worry more about growth. If you're running T5, you can always tweak the look later. Adjusting exposure down or ISO down will help as well with pics. Maybe even turning off some bulbs.
  18. Did you talk to Jeff@Reef Dynamics? I i visibly don't have his skimmer but the BP reactor is awesome. Id consider his skimmers if I was in the market. Needle wheel though. Not that I really care. -- Warren
  19. It isn't RF, but this efflo looks nice. http://www.battlecorals.com/The-points-and-saysWOW-NICE-Fing-EFFLO-efflo-30.htm My tank's too small for an efflo though. -- Warren
  20. Trust me, I researched this for quite some time. Try the AquaFX one. I get zero extra waste water now. Been installed over a year now.
  21. There's nothing wrong with letting the float valve and ASOV cut off the RODI. It's just that for the first minute or so, your DI stage will be exposed to extra contaminates. I do agree that letting it run for more than 5 gallons at a time is ideal. Ironically, running it for extended periods of time results in decreased chlorine/chloramine filtering efficiency from the carbon block. -- Warren
  22. PayPal only for me as well. Need to change my BRS password though. I also use throw away email accounts for most sites. -- Warren
  23. I used to have this problem with the BRS ASOV. Ever since I switched to the AquaFx high pressure version, this is a non-issue. Be aware that the way you plumb this is different from a typical ASOV. -- Warren
  24. No more zoas near the bottom for me. They spread too much and I'm paranoid about removing them from rock and dealing with palytoxin. I have a device I use to remove unwanted pests, but it siphons as it destroys. I used to to remove a few ugly zoas. My vote is chalice if it is indirect light. Strong direct light results in color shift anyways. -- Warren
  25. I gagged just looking at those pictures. That's gonna take a while to wash that odor away -- Warren
