  1. So I'm actually in love with the tank right now. Ya know, nothing is ever perfect, but it feels like I'm very close. But what I'm not in love with at the moment is the reefing. It's starting to feel a bit like a chore, so I'm working on changing that by working with some new camera lenses. I'm also experimenting with using my skimate as a fertilizer for my house plants. I'm going to continue to try and keep it spicy instead of thinking about getting out. Here's a Squamosa (I believe) clam I recently picked up. I know it's ORA. I'm pretty smitten with it. Also pictured, my CSB that has moved into the back of the tank now. A green slimer. This thing has grown so quickly that I think it looks exactly the same as when I got it. It's incredibly different. I'm starting to think I'd like to do a bunch of stags, but not enough room to play like that without shadowing everything else below. This Space invaders Pectinia is easly the size of a saucer, and I grew it out from a polyp. I had another half that broke off from this that I sold, so I imagine if I had kept it whole, I'd have a dinner plate sized pectinia. There's just a lot of coral variety & color in this photo, and it makes me happy! I don't know what kind of torch this is, but I think it looks just as nice as the Holy Grails, I'm excited about watching this one grow out. This was a grab from @lynn.reef.nerd (Reef Nerd Aquatics) This is an OG Dragon Soul colony. I started with 2 heads about 2 years ago. By the end of the first year, I had about 15 heads on it. I trimmed it back down to 3 heads when it was in the nano, and I'd say in another year it's easily back to it's 15 probably + heads now.
  2. I think @AlanM shared this tank with us a few months ago, yikes indeed, it looked better before!
  3. The only thing I can think of is there's not enough nutrients for the macro to grow, and it ends up dying? You've had the live rock for 2 years, but with a bio load? Even swapping into a bigger tank was enough to throw things a little wacky, cloudy water, algae blooms. Took about a month to even out.
  4. I’m also needing to set mine up (Apex) i think they are pretty plug and play these days
  5. Glad to hear you're going to keep at it, only way to learn!
  6. That's a Bill Murray. I think I got it from @wildcrazyjoker81
  7. Thanks! Wont be long until it's filled in, already happening very quickly. On Thursday (15th) this tank will be at exactly 4 months.
  8. I have a 4' tank and a smaller yellow tang. I also only have a few small fish in an 80 gallon, and tried to keep my scape as open as possible for swimming room coupled with great hiding spaces for sleeping and or a break. I find the ft rule of thumb to be pretty arbitrary. The logic is that tangs swim for hundreds of miles in a day, then what difference is 2'? Obviously go as big/long as you can go, and don't try to keep one in a 10 gallon, but if you're talking 4' to 6' being a make or break, I personally find it silly.
  9. Love to see it getting setup again, looks great there! Ben builds some nice stands!
  10. Always is. Plan to have assistance. And another day on top of moving day. For me it's making sure the tank is plumbed and the water quality is matched up as best as possible. Most tanks will be OK without skimmer, dosing, lights, etc. My biggest piece of advice would be to have all the equipment ready for a bigger tank. For me that was making sure the stand was ready, tank was drilled, and I had all my plumbing on hand with a gazillion extra pieces. My MP10's wouldn't work on new glass thickness, so I already had MP40's ready to roll. Like anything, the more you prep, the easier it will go. This. And untangle all your cords.
  11. Just did this. Upgraded a 22 gallon tank into an 80 gallon tank, in the same location. Broke the old tank down into plastic totes from home depot, had the extra water made up and on hand. Setup the new tank, put contents back into new tank with more water. You could also cycle rock in a container or tub before hand so you don't have to wait/worry when you setup your new jam. Don't overthink it, you're literally adding more water (and probably rock) to your system.
  12. Alyssa (who used to work at Pacific East Aquaculture I believe) was once (and looks like still is) a wealth of knowledge on seahorses.
  13. The loc line on the return is going to a. Be above the drain pipe b. extend your return don’t over think it.
  14. He's getting out of the hobby, and a BB member. We allow a one time only getting out post for non paid WAMAS members, so no access to that section.
  15. I lost power all the time in Arlington once I crossed over Glebe Road. Sometimes during the hurricane weather I've lost power for 5 days. Most recently, was about 3 years ago and it was knocked out for 2 days. Really though, it's all arbitrary, you should be ready no matter what. I have one of these inverters, and a marine deep cell cycle battery hooked up to a trickle charger, but I need to be here to set everything up. It saved my hide in Arlington many times, and was enough to also power a box fan so we could sleep.
  16. FWIW, the only real fishy smell that I ever got out of the tank was when the skimmer cup needed to be emptied and cleaned
  17. Love to see this tank continuing, with a build thread ❤️❤️❤️
  18. Please post at least an asking price per forum rules, can do I obo from there.
  19. Wow, that's a beautiful tank. I'm a little jealous!
  20. The takeaway? I guess I can grow acans now. I'm just starting to get the algae under control. It used to be the entire glass floor bed coated. Aggressive water changes, CUC, and cut back on the feedings.
