  1. You're on the right track. Looks like you started with all new rock, will take a bit of time to come into itself. Personally, I wouldn't worry about dosing yet, water changes should get you to where you need to be. I think you're right, you are feeding heavy, but that's OK, why are you running your skimmer part time, it could help you keep feeding heavy! I'm also a big fan of the bare bottom, something I did to help speed up diversity was get rocks, sand, shells, etc from other friends tanks. I'd put the sand in a plastic container in the display, or the sump. If you're worried about it, because when you reef with somebody, you reef with every person they've ever reefed with, remember.... unless you plan to QT all your inverts, fish, corals, etc, then you're already taking that chance!
  2. Hey there @Rkausarand welcome to WAMAS. Your tank is just starting to go through it's phases, even though it's done with the cycle this is all part of the ride. From the picture, I don't see any clean up crew (CUC), I'd suggest adding a few snails and hermits, they will clean the rock and sand for you. Keep doing water changes and feed light (looks like 2 fish?). Eventually that rock will go from white, to green, to brown, to gray/purple.
  3. When I took a summer vacation about 3 years back, my tank sitter used tapwater in my top off, essentially about 10 gallons of tap water into a 22 gallon tank. I didn't lose everything, but I lost a lot, mostly acropora.
  4. Looking good. Did you put any pumps into the sump for the water flow?
  5. Love to see it! How does it look now that you've trimmed it all back?!
  6. There's a lot that will be happening, this is a good time. Prepare to meet a lot of folks and go home with way too much coral!
  7. Awesome job! I suppose outside of their colors, mandarins are actually really funny looking, but the juvie here looks like an alien!
  8. I don't have an answer to your question, but I use the same doser. One thing that I've noticed, is you have to escape back to the main screen every single time you're done, or it will remain in "programing mode" or whatever you're in. For example, if you set the clock, but never jump back to the main screen, it will not automatically close out once it senses inactivity, it will forever remain in the "clock setting" until you exit. And if you're in that limbo, it will not follow the program and dose as scheduled. Hopefully that is your issue, if not, I suggest contact the manufacturer.
  9. hey man, Rik will get you taken care of. If I hadn’t of put 6 months into this scratched one, I would have been in this. Not drilling another tank and losing all the coraline and bacteria is the thing holding me back. 80 DB show up to few and far, this won’t last. Get @bena to make you a stand!
  10. Wow, absolutely amazing! Pioneering mandarin breeding at home is a heck of a job well done!
  11. Yeah yeah, it'll have to be soon, my schedules about to get rocked. I'll send a text.
  12. Closed loop definitely sounds better. Tank is looking nice! Love that you're getting a chiller!
  13. Love to see it! Way to go!
  14. Great advice from Alan already. There’s a cycling process I’ve heard only called by “the European process” in which they run 3 months into a cycle before adding anything, clean up crew included. i expect its European because we don’t have that patience in the USA. ?
  15. Freaking love this. The moon is looking real gorgeous tonight as well.
  16. I didn't realize I had documented my foster failure. 5 years later, this pup is still snoring on my couch.
  17. Hello, welcome to the club! It's wild to think about, but a lot of planning happens before you even setup a tank! What kind of reef are you going for? Fish only with live rock (FOWLR), mixed reef, softies & LPS, SPC/Acropora dominated? Do you want sand, or bare bottom? Does all of that sound like jargon? Do you have a budget in mind, know where it's going to go in the house? Do you have a RO/DI to make water, and a place to mix synthetic salt for the tank? A book I really enjoyed that I believe details out all the questions you are asking yourself right now is Tony Varga's "The Coral Reef Aquarium: From Inception to Completion" Personally, I would start by figuring out where the tank will go, how the tank will be plumbed, and then focusing on getting an aquascape (rock and sand) and some saltwater so you can start cycling. And reading everything and anything you can along the way. A really good way to do this is by finding a build that you like that is documented, and reading about the journey along the way. I'd be remiss if I didn't post mine, which you can find here. I'd also suggest starting a build, so you can document and watch the growth! Lastly, I'm glad you found WAMAS, we're a great local club with a lot of knowledge bouncing around. The $20 annual membership will pay for itself with the Buy/Sell/Trade forum section, and you'll be able to solicit advise from some old heads and wicked smart folks!
