  1. I have been cycling rock for the past 3 months or so downstairs in a rubbermaid tub. I don't think I'll end up using it, but had plans to originally. I thought in my head I might just jam it down into the sump, or as much as I could. I did make sure that I got enough equipment that I could do a straight swap and not have to worry about moving over pumps, or lights, or skimmers, etc. so there will be some variation in the flow and the lighting
  2. I plan to use literally the exact same rock, from the display to the sump. I also plan to add the rock from my "frag tank" in with it. And moving over all the water (I don't really think the water matters that much, tbh.)
  3. I've thought about that, unfortunately, the current footprint of the tank currently will be overlapped by about 1/2 of the where the new 80 will be going. Moving one tank to get it settled and then moving the other one seems oddly redundant, as the only real thing that will be changing tremendously is quadrupling the water volume. Then lights, and flow. All those seem huge enough that something might/could go wrong?
  4. Well, it's sitting in my office with a lot of expensive equipment inside it. Ben went to start making the top on it for me over the weekend. Unfortunately, the board I had provided for the dramatic live edge sprung out warped as could be after cutting down the middle, so it's going to be unusable. He's going to just make a fresh top for me, so once that is ready I'll start plumbing. I'm a little nervous about moving things over, as everything in the nano is doing really well right now. Same with the 11.4 I got from you. The zoo's are popping off, and everything is chugging along.
  5. Sorry to hear about the fish. Nice to have a whole shed dedicated, but a bit of a pain being so far from the house! I want a dedicated sink for cleaning beer equipment, we have a long list of projects until I can even do anything further with the tanks. I think you'll appreciate the extra QT time, I really enjoyed watching my tank fishless for so long the last time I QT'd my entire stock, which was a super long time ago.
  6. Seems like a lot of work for sand. I've always wondered how people with beautiful tanks keep their sandbeds so clean. Seems like really established tanks don't have as big of an issue? Either way, tanks are looking nice!
  7. Looking great! Will you be able to clear a skimmer height wise? It seems tight, but maybe that’s bc the tank is so big!
  8. thanks! it’s the display with higher par. I keep a mixed reef, I’ve found the higher par is better recurved than lower. That and the frag tank is a bit of an afterthought tank, turned into a display though.
  9. While this data might be more confusing than not, here is the par of my display 22 gallon nano, and my 11.4 gallon "frag tank." The smaller frag tank has an AI Prime 16, and the display has 84 three watt LED's coupled with x4 T5 bulbs. My lights are on from 10am-10pm, and the T5's are on from noon-5pm. I will say the flow in my frag tank is considerably less than the display, and is MUCH dirtier. I feed a lot, and only frozen on both tanks. Not saying it will fix your issues, but I also think you could probably bump up the lights a little higher.
  10. Was just thinking about you yesterday, figured work got busy. I've had my alk spike up, and down, and I've found that despite the up or down, just turning everything off and testing until everything levels out works best. I also suspect that my alk is about 1 dKH point off from reality, which doesn't matter to me, as long as I have a baseline of consistency. I've been at 7.5 for years, but when my water was tested with lab grade testing equipment, it was 8.4 I guess there's the old faithful big water change option?
  11. Thanks! Drilling was easy, will report back once it’s wet!
  12. Just waiting on my top board, which will be beautiful, then I’m ready to plumb. As soon as I plumb, everything moves!
  13. Wish I could say I knew why, but doing something right I guess!?
  14. It really will. Busting at the seams currently.
  15. Absolutely tops. It feels precarious, just so much stuff over an open sump area. I know it’s not, but it’s a great contrast!
  16. You can make your own mesh top, plenty of folks run them. You will still be able to grow corals just fine.
  17. I guess that makes sense, the photo looks like it's on the same carpet now that I revisit. I was going to say, you'll probably want a bit more flow wise. I have to clean the coraline off my MP's every 3 months, the gyres were more frequent. The toggle switch box sounds fire. Such an epic build, and it's still in the start! Have you questioned if you should have gone bigger yet?!
  18. Where did you get these? I'd love to put some on my Reef Octopus Skimmer, the nylon one suuuuuuck. So x2 MP60's and x3 MP40's? I like the flow that gyres offer, but they need to be cleaned all the time, and then there's the entire cord thing. I'll be interested to hear how you enjoy the efficiencies of an Apex. Will you be using a Trident?
