  1. How long do you dry the rock after a bleach an acid bath?
  2. Challenge accepted! Might be my next project....
  3. Yeah, I read that they are found in deeper waters. I want to see if anyone had success keeping them. Thanks for the link too.
  4. Hi Wamas, I stopped by petland this weekend and saw a ventralis anthias for the first time. Its a beautiful fish! Has anyone here cared for these lil guy?
  5. Sure! I should note that quarterly is the minimum. The unit can go through the decontamination process upwards of every month pending overall usage. When it's time to replace the cartridges and membranes, we empty out the content in the tank and tubes by cutting off the water source and draining. Next we remove the cartridges and membranes and place a tablet ( I believe chronic tetraglycine) into the main reservoir tank and turn on the water again. The content circulates for 15 minutes or so. Afterwards, we flush the unit out for another 10 minutes with water and then replace filters. I should note that the unit is lab grade and has other antimicrobial devices such as UV lamps built in.
  6. The DI unit at my job goes through a quarterly decontamination.
  7. It is recommend to start carbon dosing at a lower rate to avoid shocking your system. Increase over a span of several weeks to the desired rate and nitrogen and phosphorus levels will lower. I am using biopellets in combo with MicroBacter7 (Quantum Aquaria suggestion) to build up the bacteria in my tank. As of now, no algae and my corals are popping with color.
  8. How about biopellets as another option?
  9. I currently have both in a 120 gallon, and they get along well. I started with the coral beauty and bought the flame about 6 months later. Both fish are about the same size (flame is slightly larger).
  10. JAKE! Welcome my friend. Let the addiction begin!
  11. Dimitri, I was honestly about to ask the same question! I am in a similar situation as I am getting ready to install my dosing pumps in the cabinet. My idea was to use the kalk stirrer as the main source and two part to compensate for the difference. This way, I use up all my kalk and will not have to use as much two part (please tell me if this is risky) As a side note, I noticed in a youtube video that they use vinegar to help dissolve the calcium in kalk solution. Adding some vinegar to the DI reservoir will keep the calcium dissolved and helps neutralize the pH a little.
  12. Hey Tricia, Hopefully this link helps a little. http://water.epa.gov/drink/contaminants/basicinformation/nitrate.cfm
  13. I picked up my pieces this afternoon and couldn't be happier! The corals were encrusted and look great in person. Buy with confidence.
  14. I have been using filter socks on my 120g for about 2-3 months now and I notice a big difference in water clarity. I have 4-5 4" round socks in rotation and change it up every 5 days or so. I clean them by soaking in a very mild bleach water overnight and spraying them down really well. Make sure the socks are dry before reusing.
  15. Only if I didn't get motion sickness. I learned the hard way on a deep sea fishing trip
  16. I was able to plug everything in and I am monitoring pH and temp now. Youtube has an BRS series dedicated to the Apex controller. I think I need to buy an extra part to setup my ato.
  17. Good luck with your setup! I took a look at their website and it seems helpful. I want to make sure it is used to its full potential for the equipment I have as well as setup my phone or tablet. Im just not too tech savvy.
  18. Just bought an Apex Lite via Amazon.com and I have no clue how to get started. Is there anyone near Bowie that could help me setup/ program my controller? I can provide lunch or throw in some cash for your time. Thanks!
  19. Hmm, I thought that the Apex controllers were sold at a fixed price, hence the $525 price tag on current sales for the Apex Full. I also thought that the APex Lite was discontinued. Curious if they are selling an Apex Full instead because the orignial price is $499.99 and it includes a pH probe.
