is it going to hurt that a fish dies in my overflow?
camelcruiser replied to goodreeef's topic in General Discussion
Turn your return off and drain the water out of the overflow until there is just a little water left it will start jumping catch it then well if the fish is still alive. -
WOW! What a Difference a Different Ballast Can Make
camelcruiser replied to bbyatv's topic in General Discussion
I told you those things were great that bulb, ballast, reflector combo is unreal. They overdrive the bulbs though so you will probably get less time out of them. -
I have gotten stuff from them before and everything came in nice well packed and healthy. Mostly fish and coral the only inverts I got from them were a pair of gold coralbanded shrimp but they were also very healthy. They also do Saturday delivery if that's something you needed.

One more thing I'm not sure on the size of the anemones but with that size tank they could be consuming the iodine in the tank which isvery important for nems. Try a drop of lugols solution I would only do a drop it's potent. Most people don't have that problem in larger tanks with that number of anemones but in a smaller one you could.

Wandering anemones. .. darnit
camelcruiser replied to jason the filter freak's topic in General Discussion
Are they moving towards the flow or away from it? If they are moving away from the flow I would turn it down just a bit and see what happens but yea I agree with everyone else they are probably going to wander a bit. I have about 7 or 8 bubble tips and 2 just decided one day to pack it up and move until they found a new spot they liked. -
Building Gurgly – Kallor’s 125ish gallon reef tank
camelcruiser replied to Kallor's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
In my opinion a bubble tip would have been a better route based on the age of the tank however I did the same thing with my very first tank before I knew anything at all about keeping saltwater animals and the purple lta did fine it's kind of a toss up. I would put it in a crevice where sand and rock meet and turn your flow down to let it try to gain a foot hold. Also when it does don't feed it for a little while as that will use unnecessary energy that it might not have after acclimating to the new tank. -
That's funny I was thinking the same thing. The tank looks good though man.

Clowns in "Harems" or groups?
camelcruiser replied to jason the filter freak's topic in General Discussion
I have 13 in a 180 and they are fine all added at different times and different sizes. They have a hierarchy but everyone knows there place now I have heard a ton of stories about it not working for people though. Also depending on the size of your tank you might just want to do a pair I had 4 in a 60 gallon cube and they would fight all the time. -
I'm glad they are getting put to good use man!! I'm sure those acros are gonna love life.

Ok sounds good I figures I would leave it for awhile in the tub so it was ready for the new tank I'm in no real rush. I guess my only question was about the water changes in the tub...leaving the water in the tub with no water changes would it effect the the cycling process or would the water just run with high nitrates when the early stages on the cycle were over?

Thanks for all the quick replies guys.

Oh I should've specified the type of rock it won't have any die off it's cerameco rock. I just wasn't sure if I need to do water changes....I may need to read up on it again but if I remember right when the rock is cycled it should turn ammonia into nitrite and then nitrite into nitrates. After the water is cycled all I should have is high nitrates in the water.....but I don't plan on using the water.
-
Well it's been about 7 years since I have had to do this but I plan on starting from scratch soon. My only question is if I cycle the rock in a tub do I need to do water changes like I would if I was cycling in a tank? I haven't ever cycled rock in something other then my actual tank. I also don't plan on using the water from the tub in the tank.

You shouldn't feed everyday if it's struggling then digesting food is expending extra energy that it needs right now. I would let it be for a few days. I have had anemones do this before and after being left alone they came back fine.

I would go the 3/4 emt handbender route...the less fittings and the better....and prefab bends usually are a bit more expensive. -
It's a crappy cell pic but just so you know it can work.....I have about 5 or 6 more not in the pic. Most were added at different times and 3 of them today.

I have 10 in my tank now and they all get along pretty well my large b&w is definitely king of the clowns but they all get along fairly well...I'm about to add 4 more. One thing I noticed I used to have a large b&w pair and I put two smaller ones in and they two larger ones took to them immediately...didn't let anything mess with them at all. I guess it's all luck of the draw but I haven't had a bad experience so far.

prazipro question for people who have used it
camelcruiser replied to pizzaguy's topic in General Discussion
Did you use interceptor spectrum or did you find the original? Spectrum has praziquantel the active ingredient in prazipro which should have taken care of some of the problem. Not sure how much of an impact it would have but I have used it before and saw some worms floating around an hour or so after I started the spectrum treatment. -
Anything you put over top of the tank is going to reflect light. You can put a sheet of glass on your tank and it will reflect light.

You can get it at home depot or Lowe's. Do you have a screen top? If you do a black screen top that might work as well.

I would be careful with getting to many for a 57 gallon tank, they like a lot of room to swim. I have had mine for a year and a half there was one male and 4 females and now 2 males and 2 females. They paired up and stay on seperate sides of the tank, but it's a 6 foot tank also. I kept a few in a 4 foot tank that didn't do as well. Good luck if you decide to get some they are one of my favorite fish.
