  1. Well I stopped by QR yesterday and got myself out of a lot of manual headache in an attempt to make this new tank as automated as possible. Here is some of the new stuff I got.
  2. You can call capital lighting and supply on Monday, call the one in Upper Marlboro that is the main distribution store in the area if anyone in the area has one they will. I'll ask on Monday if I have to stop by.
  3. Looks great, glad to see the swissguards are still doing well.
  4. Yea I tried a dwarf lionfish a long while back in a 28 gallon nano......it didn't end well for the fish so I would stay away from that. It's almost like you can't change the water fast enough.
  5. Thanks guys...I'm ready for water to I had a big alk swing a few weeks ago while I was out of town, I'm kinda ready to start new and add the coral that survived.
  6. Awesome thanks I'll look into that...do you have any clue where to buy it from?
  7. Yea it is durock I wish I knew how much of a pain it was to cut and fit before I started. I think that's been the hardest part of the stand....until I realized they make a special blade for cutting it, went through 6 blades in 1 hour. The buffing I haven't done before but plan on using 400, 800, 1000, then 1500 grit sandpaper but haven't decided on a compound just yet. I should be able to go to an autobody store and pick something up..will probably do that on the way home from work tomorrow.
  8. Well I got caught up with the stand this weekend and missed out on the sump I wanted, but atleast I got a bunch done on the stand. I am going to start the buffing tomorrow....I'm charging about 10 18 volt batteries tonight to prepare. Here's a pic of the new stand.
  9. Tried to pm you on the apex and sol lmk on both.
  10. Hahaha she LOVED it....I think this hobby is gonna leave me living in a tank.
  11. Yea I think you guys are right, I just cleaned it up and I really like it to. I went out this morning and bought some doors so I should have everything done by the end of next weekend.
  12. Well I finally got a little bit of time and started on the stand I did one side in the airstone and left the tile to see which one I liked better. The wife likes the airstone so that might be what wins out.
  13. I have an ro unit with new filters I'll sell you for really cheap.....PM me if interested.
  14. This is the best lfs I have ever been to they have unbelievable customer service and that says a lot considering the quality of the fish stores we have around here. This store is unreal from the first time I went in I felt like I had known the guys for years, now I am sure I will get to know them for years. If anyone is worried about a long drive for a great store trust me this is one you won't be disappointed with, they are the best.
  15. Thanks, hopefully it's not going to be to bad I'm going to rebuild the current stand because it doesn't have doors and I need them. The previous stand was made of granite tiles but my dad had a bunch of extra airstone I might use instead of these when I put it back together.
  16. Nope not yet ended up working Saturday last week and got an emergency call from work Sunday evening but this weekend I'm off for sure so I will be doing a ton of stuff. Hopefully get most of the stand done and start buffing.
  17. I'm scared that 300 gallons would end up on the floor with no center supports, it does look good though.
  18. All of the horizontal parts of the frame are 2x4 and verticals are 4x4.
  19. I can't do that either because where the vertical supports are I only have 17 inches where I need 24.
  20. Thanks, I think I'm going to start on some stuff tomorrow with the stand and maybe buff the tank.
  21. Yea I'm leaning that way, but the stand is home made by the previous owner so I wasn't sure if it could handle the weight in a different arangment.
  22. I'm redoing my stand for a 300 gallon this weekend, my question is if I go with one center brace instead of the two and offset it about 8 inches to one side would it be stable enough for the weight. Problem is I have a 4x2 sump I want to use under the 8x2 tank I want to make sure I don't come home to 400 gallons on the floor.
  23. Thanks everyone, I just sold some stuff to make some room at the house so I can start working on this over the weekend.
  24. Now a list of the hardware. I am going to keep using my 5 AI sol blues as well as maybe 2 400 watt metal halides, I know it's overkill but if I stager the lights and turn the sols down I'm thinking it should work pretty well. I have a SWC S2 cone skimmer that is a beast I really like it and I think it's rated around 500 gallons. As far as flow goes I have 3 MP40's that will hopefully do the job.
