where did you go diving? i seen crabs everywhere shrimps and seahorses can be seen as well, but mostly at night.

i would just invest in the d120 as suggested above. invest in a low cost light that grows corals is better than spending money on something that may or may not grow corals.

that sucks. what model skimmer are you using? i had cyano when i first started it, but it all went away as soon as i hooked up the output of the reactor directly into the skimmer. hopefully it will go away soon.

sweet. i guess nothing beats clean water. how do you clean the detritus from your back chambers?

after i took off the top screen off of my tlf reactor, some of the smaller pellets ended up un my skimmer. they just sit at the bottom of the reactor. i also dont think biopellets work in a bag because the bag will end up covered in bacteria which prevents any flow going through the bag.

thanks. it is still not eating aiptasia, but started eating frozen brine. the moded tlf reactor works great. no clumping so far so i filled the whole thing up with pellets to see how it will do. i did notice the pellets are getting smaller after the mod. not sure if it is because bacteria are eating it or if it is too much flow.

sorry for your losses. i remember your tank was cycling for the longest time. at least the fishes are happy.

i didnt even bother to tie it down. i just dropped them all into the tank. they attached in a day or so, then move to where they like.

aah, coraline algae. live rock is live when there are things living in it and lights are not required to keep the bacterias and critters alive. more live rock in a tank means more surface area for beneficial bacterias to colonize, but there are other methods he can use other than adding live rocks. you are right, a really good skimmer, refugium and time for bacteria to grow will help keep nitrates low.

depends on what type of media. chaeto can be a nitrate factory too if you dont regularly clean it. i think you will be fine running carbon.

a bunch of people in the club have chaeto, just coordinate pickup during the next meeting.

i dont see a problem with that. i run my skimmer 24-7, i would also leave the chaeto light on 24-7 until nitrates go down. in my experience detritus and other stuff gets trapped on the chaeto which creates higher nitrates. i typically take it all out and clean the chaeto in a bucket of dirty water during water change. i dont think xenias do much as far as nutrient export, but they do look pretty.

finally picked up a copperband butterfly. currently eating live brine shrimp and will try to get it to eat what everything else eats. (frozen brine, flakes, pellets). although i see it pick stuff off of the live rocks, im not sure if it is aiptasia. he hangs out with the yellow tang in my tank, even at night they hang out together behind the rockwork.

here is a picture of a sps dominated tank that uses natural sunlight at the Waikiki Aquarium. natural sunlight works but is rather unreliable due to seasonal changes, clouds, rain and such if one were to use sunlight as the only source of lighting for their aquarium. i kept my 75 gallon tank next to a window for a short period a couple of months ago before i moved. i had crazy temperature swings during that time. now that i have a chiller, i may move it by a window once we get situated just to see how it does.

It is currently running off of a manifold. Jebao dc6000 is running the reactor, chiller and return water to the display. I tried running the reactor with a separate pump eater a little over 300 GPS, but would get the same result. Took out half the bio pellets and put in another tlf 150 and both reactors had the same problem. I think it's a design flaw. Don't think these reactors were meant for bio pellets. The mod is still working today and my skimmer is getting the foamy stuff in the collection cup again. Jebao dc6000 have been working well so far. Push button feed mode is pretty sweet. I still have my eheim pump on standby just in case the Jebao takes a crap on me.

ya, it is rather cute. i picked the smaller one because younger fish seems to do better during transport. i had problems with my tlf 150 reactor with piopellets. it seems like only one side tumbles after about two months of use. after a little research, i wanted to purchase the reef octopus biopellet reactor, but then decided to try mod it. one side tumbling while the other side becomes a detritus trap. even after taking out half the biopellets in the reactor, only one side tumbles. the mod. took out the bottom plate and glued the pipe to a funnel. looks real ugly, but im just testing to see if this mod actually works. hmm, added all the pellets back into the reactor to test. looks like its a go. will see if it will still tumble in two months.
