Just a fair warning I have owned a few Cobalt Neotherms and have had issues. I used them on an apex so would power on and off so not sure if that is why. Twice I woke up in the morning to a terrible smell. The first time I thought the house was on fire and I went running to see what it was. Found the root of the smell and figured maybe it was the heater. Put my hand in the water to check it and it lit me up. It melted and released a terrible toxin in my water. My skimmer went nuts and I lost some coral. It was never out of the water was always submerged and clearly failed in the on position. I got that one replaced (I was using 2) and a few weeks later (and some dead corals) I woke up to that same smell. It happened again.... I now use Ehiem Jäger and love them. Never had any issue.

Got to see these today and they are amazing! Picked up one myself highly recommend!

The issue is where is the Alk coming from? How did it get high? No dosing and he uses IO what would cause it

Too much Zeobak. You should do 1 drop per 25 gallons every 3 days. So you should do 1 drop every 2 days to get the 1.5 drops every 3 days. Not saying that's what's the cause for your issue but may in the long run. I do 6 drops every 3 days on my 120 gallon (154 total volume).

Anytime I buy a frag I normally would remount it myself. Gives me the ability to place it how I want and validate it's mounted correctly. This is nothing against any vendor but just a safe practice.

I have heard of you put a filter sock after your carbon reactor it can stop the issue anyway. I don't use carbon myself (anymore) but I have in the past

Honestly I don't think I would fix or patch the 20 long. If you check for Petco $1 per gallon sale you can get a brand new one for $20. LEDs grow corals perfectly if you get the right ones and you don't even need a HOB filter if you get a HOB skimmer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would say you can 100% keep a clean up crew but I don't know I would look to add it. If it happens it happens but if you ask me its better to let your pod population handle anything that gets in their. Keeps them spawning and they will find a balance. Like others said I do put in the sump for punishment as I have a few big hermits and crabs. My overflows all have peppermint shrimp (never added just wound up their). The amount of life in their is insane from mysid shrimp and pods. Hence my big fat Mandarins.
