  1. Let the cycle begin! I have a good amount of live rock in my frag tank I will be taking down so I did not put it in here yet. But got it full last night and everything is running great!
  2. sorry the brand is locktight. It says aquarium safe on the box. Was pretty cheap as well
  3. Target sells the weld on silicone that says aquarium safe right on it. It is the small squeeze tubes though.
  4. yes it has the Accela SP1-1000 pump. The reason I did not use it was I started off with a 55 gallon tank that was not Reef Ready and realized how terrible that tank is for a reef. After changing tank sizes twice I now use a sump and all of my filtration happens their so I did not need a HOB anymore.
  5. Also if you are not in a hurry wait till Petco has a $1 per gallon sale and you can get a new 29 gallon for $29. Pretty sweet deal I have a CPR Bak-Pak 2 Protein Skimmer that I only used for like 2 months I will sell you for $75 if it helps you out. Its rated up to 55 gallons so should make light work of a 29 As for Local fish stores BRK seems to be really great but also think about Quantum Reefs. They are in Annandale now but moving to Springfield before too much longer. Vince and Steve are incredible and very fair on pricing and go out of their way to help. Oh and welcome! Today its a 29 gallon and soon you will be looking for a bigger one lol.
  6. Sell the wife to pay for the pump. Problem solved.
  7. Beautiful tank. Can't wait to see it progress.
  8. Once you sign the contract it's very hard to negotiate the details. When its up for renewal I would revisit.
  9. Welcome!
  10. yeah I'm excited. Plus that gives me 2 DC3000s lol. Great pumps so far
  11. That looks pretty cool. I may have to try one of those out.
  12. Yeah I actually starting running the pellets on my frag tank (that will be broken down after this tank is ready) to start the process. I did not get cloudy but I did get ciano breakout within a few days and I have seen that is normal. Starting to balance out now but it needs at least a month break in time. Im in no hurry so if its algae problem at first no biggie.
  13. ..... Ok so it seems I am not so bright. lol It is Biopellets and not BioBalls I will correct it
  14. In the old tank I had some issues with algae and I tried GFO, and Carbon. After talking with Quantum Reefs they said you can get away from GFO if you get the BioBalls going well so I wanted to try that out. I did convert it with the shims they recommend in order to run the BioBalls. Figured it could not hurt (even though in the beginning you get more growth). For the equipment im sure I did like most first time reefers and got all of the wrong equipment and had to repurchase lol. Im a lot happier with this list
  15. Here is a couple of pics. The first 2 are a little 4 gallon Evolve tank I made to a small reef, the 3rd pic is a 8 gallon evolve I have. Pics 4, 5 are the sump with the LED light (not sure of brand but it was growing SPS), 6 is the 40 gallon breeder, 7 is the overflow, 8 is some of the plumbing using schedule 80, and the last pic is my 20L frag tank holding items till the 40 gallon is running. The light over the frag is the one I got for the 40 Breeder.
  16. How long has the tank been going for? Do you have coral? What does your water change rhythm look like? What are your Phosphates at? What is the watts of the t5 and how many and what bulbs? Most corals get enough light from about 4 hours (correct me if im wrong) maybe lower the time the lights are on. How long have you been using the T5s you have.
  17. After I had a leak in my ProFlex Sump I decided to take the tank down. After speaking with a lot of WAMAS members I really do miss the tank and want to put it back up. Thank you to Quantum Reefs for helping me with my sump and about all of the equipment. Listed below is the parts I am using and I am just waiting on the new RLSS skimmer to come in on Thursday then I will start placement of all of the equipment to begin adding water. I will post pictures Soon. Any advice you can give me would be amazing! 40 Gallon Breeder with 2 1” Herby Overflow, and 1 3/4” return 20L sump with 3 chambers (thank you Quantum Reefs) DC-3000 Waveline Return Pump RLSS R6-I 6 Internal Skimmer with Speed Controlled DC3000 Pump Via Aqua Titanium 300 Watt 80 Gallon Aquarium Heater 1-2" of live sand in DT, with 50+ lbs of live rock 2 MP10w ES Two Little Fishies GFO Phosban Reactor (Running Bio Balls) 48x3W LED Fixture-Using Bridgelux LEDs, Solar Simulator Controller BRS 5 STAGE PLUS RO/DI SYSTEM – 75GPD Avast Top-off Kit BRS GFO & Carbon Reactor – Single (to run Carbon if I need)
  18. I had that issue before and I put a small power head and took care of it.
  19. The reason I ask on the guppies or mollies is I have had guppies in the past (in a tropical tank) and they were really cool. I loved how easily they reproduced and would be cool to teach my 4 year old about it. I heard the fish could thrive in a marine environment so why not have the best of both. If it is harmful to the fish it would not be something I would do. Thanks for the info everyone.
  20. how many tangs you think I could get to survive in a 10 gallon tank? Was thinking of setting a 10 gallon Tang tank in my kitchen.
  21. makes sense. I wonder if I did it really slow like over a few months would it work.
  22. sounds good. Will give it a try
  23. She was amazing and made it very easy to understand. Was my fist meeting but after that experience I'm sure I will be at the rest.
