Uhhh anthias do well singly or in larger grps...ATM I have 1 and it eats pellets and I feed once morning and once evening... BUT be prepared that not all anthias take to dry foods well....for me dry foods are important cuz I don't have time always to do other types or if I am traveling I have heard that bartletts and lyretail adapt most easily to dry foods like pellets I have a lyretail anthias now...if I saw another lyretail or Bartlett eat pellets I would buy it outright I had another anthias disbar before and none ate pellets and eventually all 3 died...they were too slow to come out and eat and the tangs and wrasses ate everything before they could reach it My current lyretail eats like a pig

dont get pseudochromis ... they are pretty but unless u have like other aggressive fish they will pick on the anything bigger or smaller than them...mean fish ive heard that the tank raised ones arent aggressive...i forget the name...but its all purple ...but after having a bad expereince with one...i didnt wanna retry u can get anthias in similar shapes and colors and they arent aggressive

another unexpected update lol...my inital order had a mystery wrasse too..that was backordered ...and i got a notification that it was shipped a week late ...and the email comes in at 2am!! i was at work when i saw this mail the following day (yesterday morning)...so i had to ask my wife to do her "best" over the phone...the wrasse wasnt looking to good from the sound of it over the phone laying on the side anyways came home to see my qt tank cloudy and the wrasse breathing very shallow like it was upon arrival..i had no idea what made the tank cloudy anyways ..did an emergency new qt tank ...and it was still quite sluggish laying sideways...tried feeding mysis didnt seem interested...thought its a gonner...made it swim in front of the powerhead by hand in couple sessions... next morning it is looking better and swimming...will monitor and see if it eats today ..will be psyched if he pulls through too

i use 2 tanks atm for qt...a 8g biocube and 10g from petsmart usually when the fish come in depending on the source lfs vs online i do different things...if its online i beleive the fish is stressed out enough so i acclimate and just put it in a qt tank until it looks like it is over the trauma of travel..this usually happens for me in 1-2 days. then I tend use the same tank for Prazi pro if the fish shows any sign of internal parasite like stringy poop...or in some cases like if its a wrasse i would treat regardlesss cuz they get internal parasites more often (the sand borrowing ones).. i do a 3-5 day prazi treatment ( its recomended usually to do 5-7 but i am all to excited by then to see it go sooner in my dt and justify that by saying it will be happier in a dt and hence healtheir ) ...anyways moving on... then i do a meth blue freshwater dip..i beleive i use 10 drops of meth blue per gallon of freshwater...the freshwater must be same temp and close enough in ph to where they are coming from. for the dip i take a bucket pour out 1 g of freshwater /mix the meth blue (Not the one on breaking bad =D) and take another bucket with little freshwater to rinse off the fish after the meth blue dip before going into the 2nd qt tank. I like to dip the fish for 1-3 min ...then if its acting normal i have gone as much as 20 min recently....please keep an eye on the fish here...look at the lungs breathing etc...if its looking really bad i stop the dip immendiately... after the 1-3 min dip i put it the 2nd freshwater...rinse off ..then toss it in the 2nd qt tank which like the first uses freshly made saltwater...basically dont use old water from ur tank...cuz it contans pathogens that the fish is not used to yet...also never toss ur fish from here into the DT...cuz without its slime coat it will be exposed to those pathogens and may pick something up that u think u dont have in ur tank like ich anyways once it is in the 2nd qt...i monitor for atleast 1 day...i am assuming that the slime coat should build up by then...and if its looking good i move it to my DT...if its not good leave in place...monitor treat etc with w.e symptoms it is showing things to note:- do not treat with copper unless it has external parasites, dont mix medications...keep an eye on ammonia if the tank isnt cycled...keep things like amquel plus on standby if u need to provide thats all that comes to mind atm...gl! so my QT period overall has been sometimes as little as 3-4 days and can go up a lot more ...all depends on the fish ..i just treat each one differently

When I added him...it had some grayish patches on the skin...was black in color for 2 days straight ...and when it turned lighter grey I could very clearly see the lateral line...skinny I fed it almost every 1 hr lol...it ate a lot...today the lateral line is not that visible..and all patches are gone It's definetely doing well I'll be sure to take some pics this weekend

Hehe Ty...in a 135 ATM...and it's 2.5 -3 inches...once he gets to about 4.5 inches I'll start looking to rehome...to a nice big tank...they get pretty as they grow...already comes up to the tank front and follows me around...I may just have to upgrade cuz of it...shrug...
-
just wanted to thank everyone for the input...both the tang and angel are now in the dt and looking good. they way the vlamingi is eating he may outgrow my tank a lot sooner than i would like

Any update ?... Curious as to what is going on
-
Did u try an alternate test kit...those numbers look good...wondering if the reading reported is incorrect

Saw this on la...I don't see these guys too often and it's paired http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?c=2733+3&ddid=170495

I have heard good things about liveaquaria and have had not so good experiences tho with the health of the livestock that I received. Their customer service is fantastic though I have ordered from petco.com and have received very healthy fish.... The fish come from a reseller of theirs online in California. It does not touch the petco tanks....I am strictly referring to the petco.com site here....the in store is trash usually...the online come with 14 day gurantee Lfs are great too and I have liked quantum reefs for fair prices and good fish.

Yea it's eating now too..fed it mysis and little food too...added prazi pro for it as well I too was very surprised by the dip for the tang...I went back and tested if it was freshwater haha...I could have gone on...cuz it was swimming normal...but at 20 min I was far more stressed than the tang was..maybe vlamingi tangs are very hardy idk...may I got a boxer !
-
Thought I should update...both fish looking much better now...the tang went through a meth fw dip...20min! And seemed comfy ...I intended to give it 2 min but it did not seemed stressed at all..went into 2nd qt and its eating well...may go into dt very soon cuz I am going to skip prazi The swallowtail is still in the original qt and is swimming at all levels in a more rythmic fish like manner...so if its eats today I believe it will pull through Thanks all...I'll post pics when they both get into the dt...thanks again
-
Deserves so much better ?...u mean food...I can't feed it ur food just yet in qt...when it gets to my dt I'll feed it ur food for sure
-
Good to know...let me take out those flakes
-
I got tired of looking at it laying on the side...so I picked it up and stuck it in front of my power head ..for few minutes...now it's swimming on it own...not a very elegant swim..but at least it's not laying flat on one side...it is trying to break the water surface as if its gasping for air...hanging near the top The water can't be o2 deprived cause the tang is chilling and eating now!
-
Swallowtail still lays on the side for the most part...but if I move it a bit with my finger it swims a bit then lays flat And every so often it swims a little on its own Dunno what else to do..it's in qt now with the tang...
-
Thanks added few drops of amquel plus to the bag
-
It's now 73
-
I got it on its side and its breathing better...I also had a vlamingi that is now swimming...initially it was on its side too I will prep a qt with slightly lower temp so they don't get a shock of near 79 degrees within an hour Probably make a qt with 75 and raise slowly...idk Trying to do w.e can't imagine them being on a plane for 40 hours in this cold Dunno if it was breathable..but it was double bagged and there was some water leakage too
-
I ordered swallowtail overnight ..and it got delayed by a day so I received the shipment after 40 hours...the swallowtail is breathing but on its side Ph 7.3 in its bag...temp was very cold...acclimating it gently...but should I try and assist it to sit up straight or anything I can do to try and make it survive
