  1. Designer Corals - purple hornets are one of the most desirable designer corals out there
  2. You guys could always buy the DIY magnet pair and just glue your heaters plastic mounts onto them. It might be tough for Justin and Dan to make a product that will fit all heaters.
  3. Revive for everything. Then a bath in lugols (Brightwell) as per the directions on the brightwell site for zoas and rics, etc. LPS usually get just revive. PS. I also use a double dose of revive always and leave my corals in for 20 mins. Never lost a coral from this and the real SOB's like montipora eating nudis and AEFW take a while to get off. Also make sure to look on any coral for AEFW eggs. They can travel on any plug, rock or coral, doesn't have to be SPS
  4. My angler ate my ORA picasso which was getting used to my tank in my fuge. The picasso was 2x the size of the angler and after the bugger ate him he didnt eat for 2 weeks. Guess it was a rich meal
  5. They all should be convertible...its just a smaller impeller. I also have a snapper impeller laying around from my dart hybrid. Give it a google or call reeflo.
  6. I've flame polished before with a standard propane torch and it turned out well. Let me know if you'd like some help with it, I'm ~20mins outside of DC
  7. I'm looking for a computer fan to save my UMD hovercraft project, tomorrow is competition day and one of my team's levitation fans got fried so we cannot compete. This is my final exam grade... Please if you have any old computer fans laying around call me at 301-537-5299 ASAP I'm looking for a fan that will push ~100CFM with .8 inches of H20 of pressure. The fan that died was an 80x80x32 computer fan from Orion, if anyone knows where I can get a fan today PLEASE PM or call ASAP Thank you!
  8. Maybe some deepwater angels? Maybe a Potters if you aren't looking to take out a second mortgage for a peppermint or resplendent? Also a Joculator (sp?) is one of my favorites. I'm excited to see this new tank!
  9. Definitely a cool idea. It's very easy to control stepper's with an arduino, I have done so for a school project where we made a completely autonomous hovercraft that can retrieve payloads. They make prebuild shields such as this one Adafruit Motor Shield or you could build your own circuit using transistors and relays etc. But to answer your question simply, yes you can.
  10. Count me in, and I can get pretty great pricing on components from a few sources...
  11. I'm totally in for this, I'm actually looking to build a "fishroom monitor" with probes for humidity and air temp as well as something to add to my T5 fixture (Tek 8x54). I have been planning to do a fan mod to actively cool the bulbs, but I'd love to make the fans "dimmable" based on a temperature sensor in the fixture near the bulbs (or maybe an infrared temperature sensor pointed at the bulbs ). Arduino is incredibly easy to pick up for the first time, and there are lots of sample codes and libraries on the Arduino site that you can then modify for your own needs.
  12. Here's a video I made of my tank to include with my college apps. Please take a look and let me know what you think (I'm intending on majoring in marine bio). My tank doesnt look very full since I just upgraded from a packed 55g but hopefully it will look like some of the tanks I've seen on here one day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyOA8FfIZOU Huge thanks to Nishal (Gizmoody) for taking the photographs and video and to my friends for helping me with the editing!
  13. yep you need it. FIOS changes my IP roughly once a month...
  14. saw this in person today...the photo is even better than what the eye can see!
  15. polarized sunglasses and a LCD screen (cell phone, laptop, etc). Put the sunglasses on and go outside (or under really bright light) and hold the screen behind the glass, in the tank. If it's tempered you'll see a dotting pattern or blobs that are darker due to the glass warping slightly from the tempering process. p.s. don't be tempted to put on the sunglasses when you drive home from the store...you'll get a massive headache as all the car windshields and many store windows will appear rainbow and dotted...it's quite interesting. (yes, I did this not knowing what I was in store for)
  16. Nice looking tank...is that a Coast to Coast overflow I spy...? I'd love a pic or some details on it
  17. I'm in Bethesda/Rockville, depending on what you go with I'd be happy to help you out.
  18. Nope, I feed my corals every night with liquid foods (Reef Nutrition, Phyto, etc.) so I like the current to move the food throughout the water column. Also why would I want detritus to settle during the night? The ocean doesn't sleep... ps. its a PITA to set up night mode, and every time you power off you have to set it up again.
  19. Sweet Chad, I don't really work much with AutoCAD but I absolutely love Inventor (my version is a standalone program...probably same thing?). Gotta love free downloads for students at schools with Autodesk subscriptions When do you plan to start, finish and most importantly post pics??
  20. Oh I definitely agree and earlier today I decided that the clown wasn't about to become an expensive meal so I put up an eggcrate divider to keep them separated. Better safe than sorry
  21. It is currently in my 40 Breeder Frag Tank/Refugium. It lives in the refugium half that has alot less flow and more spots for him to hide and wander around. There's also an ORA Picasso who is about 2.5" in there but the angler has no interest in him at all. The Picasso is way too smart and usually stays on the coral grow out side anyway. Pics later tonight, but the true amazing ones will have to wait a week or two until my college app tank photo portfolio is finished.
  22. Sweet renderings and project! Did you do the drawings in Auto-CAD or Autodesk Inventor?
  23. Hey all, I just bought an Antennarius sp. Anglerfish this past weekend at Petland to be the "mascot" of my frag tank/refugium. He's absolutely amazing to watch as he runs around, my friends all say it looks like a little dinosaur. Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else here has ever owned or had any experience with these really interesting fish. I'll post a picture somewhat soon, probably by the weekend Thanks!
  24. For a class I'm taking that deals with Arduino's and microprocessors we usually get our stuff (resistors, fuses, connectors, etc.) from Radioshack. Try a location that isn't in a mall as they tend to be larger and have the oddball items such as a big 'ol 5 watter. If not, just go with DigiKey, they're really good about not packaging the wrong resistors in the bags and delaying your project further
  25. yeah I know, just wanted to confirm the numbers, thank you again for letting me borrow it! I'm very pleased with the results maybe now I'll feed 4x a day and have my autofeeder dump pellets 2x a day...hmmmm...I wonder if fish can get too fat
