  1. Hilarious! I love all the remakes of that vid. But it does have a good message!
  2. Aquarium One in Rockville, MD has a pair of tank raised Kudas
  3. I use D-D H2Ocean and I think it's phenomenal versus Reef Crystals which I used to use. It's so nice to have a salt that has balanced Ca and Alk right after mixing, no more playing with calcium chloride or baking soda, just even balanced dosing. I'm not sure how important the "trace minerals" that you say are missing from the brightwell salt really are, I'm sure it has the essential trace elements, and with a good water change schedule they will stay balanced. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  4. I switched to H2Ocean about a month ago from Reef Crystals and it really is an awesome salt. But if you're already using a high quality salt (brightwell) and it's working well for you, there's no need to fix what ain't broke.
  5. it's not only the lack of larger zooplankton (brine shrimp, cyclopeeze) but also I noticed a HUGE difference when I started a liquid regimen of Roti Feast, Oyster Feast and Aquavitro Fuel. HTH
  6. Have you cut down feeding? Also just to point out...the before pics were all without flash and the after pics were all WITH flash which typically makes SPS look plain brown. The lack of PE is probably due to a lack of feeding. My SPS polyps are out day and night because I feed 3x a day with frozen and then add liquid food every other day. Given that my system can handle this because I run biopellets, SPS corals still need food, if you think about it, they are built to eat more than any other coral, they have the most surface area devoted to eating except a coral such a scoly.
  7. looks like bryopsis, time to break out that toothbrush and order some Tech-M!
  8. got my generator, 3 jugs of gas, and a case of redbull. Storm preparation - complete
  9. Great to see everything is going well! Congrats!
  10. Anyone have a Rubbermaid stock tank or anything like it? I'm moving my livestock this week and they need a home while I break down the 55 and cycle the 120. I only need it for about a week. I can pickup anywhere within a 1hr drive of DC. Please let me know ASAP as I'd like to pick it up today. Thanks
  11. Hi I was wondering if you all had a glass hole saw for a 1.5" bulkhead in stock. Thanks.
  12. if its drywall (greenboard you're painting) i'd recommend Kilz Pro-X P10 over Kilz 2+, Kilz Pro-X is ment specifically for drywall. It's what I just finished painting my fishroom with and its great.
  13. Sorry to drag this thread up from the dead but I now need some advice on where to go with my fish room. I did my room in green board, mudded, taped, sanded etc. I was going to just slap Kilz2 Latex primer on there and leave it. It's pure white and I don't really care about how it looks. Is this the way to go? The label says that its "water/stain resistant" and everything I've done with it the water just beads off. Also the room I converted into my fishroom has tile on the floor. BUT the tile is really old and contains asbestos so I can't rip it up, crack it, etc. The tile isnt the smoothest as it's like 15+ years old and I'm worried about trying to level my stand on it. Finally, what is a good silicone to do the seams between the green board and the tile floor with? Thanks everyone!
  14. if that SRO doesnt go i'll take it, pickup can happen tomorrow
  15. The lower kelvin (yellower) you go with any bulb (MH or T5, etc) you'll get alot more PAR aka alot better growth. BUT the color of both the corals themselves and the tank will look like crap unless you supplement with blue bulbs. I would go with a 10K bulb, I've heard great things about the Ushio 10K bulbs for growth. I'd then go with blue bulbs such as the ATI Blue Plus (a blue bulb with decent par, maybe around a 16K color) for the "blue" effect. But with only 2 T5's total, you may want to try out 12K bulbs and the Blue Plus bulbs. Depends on what overall color you're looking for. Your MH bulbs should be the lower K since they provide the most light and are mostly for growth and the T5's should be blue so that you can get a good overall color. Plus it would look really weird to have a yellow colored "actinic period" in the dusk/dawn cycle. HTH PS, rocko, your tank must be insanely blue with Radiums AND VHO actinics.
  16. I'm currently building my fishroom/back of in-wall tank (basement) which is around the same dimensions. I'm going w/greenboard around the sump and DT areas. I pulled 2 15A circuits, one dedicated to running GFCI for my lights and Reeflo Dart, and the other for all my other equipment that is supposed to be submerged. I didnt want my life support (heater, etc.) on a GFCI just in case it trips when I'm not home and then my tank is done for. I considered the floor drain too, but the estimates to drill one were around what it was costing me to build the entire rest of the room. I suppose you could try drilling a hole for a small bucket or something to catch a few gallons of spills. As for the floor, I think I'm going to go with rubber shower pan liner from HD. The tile in the room has asbestos in it, so I can't touch it, and I wanted a good, waterproof, easy clean up solution. HTH
  17. Absolutely gorgeous pics! I've never seen a picture of a Cyphastrea polyp like that. If that color came in a zoo or paly, who know's what that would sell for Out of curiosity, what camera body and lens are you shooting with? Any editing other than frosting your name in? Keep it up!
  18. I agree with Chad, but personally its not even close for me. Going the powerhead route allows for repositioning, alot less power consumption, and the powerheads are expandable as they are not permanently modifying the tank, and if you go the Vortech route (2x MP40W possibly?) you have many options as to wave modes/intensity. Plus the undertow is unmatched by ANYTHING I've ever seen.
  19. Group buy on goldfish anyone? Maybe we can get some fake castle decorations too!
  20. I placed my order through Aquarium One in Rockville, Paul the manager did a great job of organizing and getting our stuff in a very professional, easy manner. He was polite, and all the items were at the prices promised, no last minute price changes.
  21. Just wanted to put this out there. I recently got together a group buy for a cleaner crew from a LFS in the area with a few friends. They were very helpful and the prices were just as good if not better than online. I paid $3 SHIPPED each for peppermint shrimp and emerald crabs and skunk cleaner shrimp for $15. I'm also talking with them about a large order for frozen foods such as Rod's Food and PE Mysis and the discounts beat any online store by a mile. Please remember to support your local fish stores and give them a call about putting together a group buy for the stuff you're looking to buy online. They are always willing to help you out and really appreciate your business!
  22. Yeah guys...left my WAMAS account open on a friends computer...suffice it to say, Penelope and Dimples are not, and were not ever with us. My bad. I definitely don't recommend the microwave... Sorry for any confusion, mods please close Thanks
  23. It was a place in Frederick, Md. I forgot their name though.
  24. Do you think the goldfish are cold? Because they are shivering. Should i take some water out and put them in it and put it in the microwave to warm them up?
