  1. one last question(maybe ) do you think 5 of the par38s would be enough for a standard 75G tank?
  2. well, that was an interesting solution. I like the idea of keeping non-native fish out of the water. Florida needs to have someone start the same type of program.
  3. I have only ever seen the 1/2 inch netting. Is there any stores in our area that carry the 1/4?
  4. Rob, I went to the website and saw the par38s. They have 3 optics options, which one did you end up choosing(40-60-80)?
  5. That netting is small enough if you double it up. I have seen someone use the same netting and then put a second layer so that the bottom squares were bisected by the top squares. Even though it was 2 layers of netting, it still fit into the groove ok.
  6. The time to vote for the May POTM is here. You have until May 31 to cast a vote.
  7. 13 hours...plenty of time for a couple more submissions
  8. I hadn't even noticed when I ordered. Was wondering why there was a difference in colors when I got mine.
  9. I've heard of wrasses staying in the sand for a long time when they get upset at a new addition to the tank.
  10. I'd definitely like to get the tut acro colony $75, and probably a few more. Are you available this evening for pickup after 7pm? Or this saturday some time?
  11. Bump One week left to make submissions
  12. I have had them clean cuts on my hands before, but was beginning to think none of the fish were sitting still long enough for them to offer their services to them.
  13. I have only ever seen my cleaner shrimp do a quick run over the sides of my tang, and even then that was only when the tang first went in the tank. Tonight was the first "real cleaning" I've seen performed, and it was really interesting to watch. Lawnmower blenny perches on a rock and then the smaller of the cleaner shrimp runs up to him. went up and down both sides and ran through the little cirri on his head too. the part that was most interesting to watch was when the blenny flared his gills and the shrimp spent about 3-4 minutes each side with it's arms up inside the gills. The blenny just sat there like nothing was happening and never fliched when the shrimp poked around. It's one thing to see a thorough cleaning in a nature fils, but to get to see it in my own tank was pretty nice
  14. Sometimes I think it's luck of the draw. My tank has decent sps and lps growth at the same time that my shrooms/zoanthids/xenia are all growing well also.
  15. I have had those on some rocks before. I always assumed they were eggs of some sort. Since they never resulted in pests, I just ignored them.
  16. Don't speak for the rest of us. There are many in the club that like his store very much. And it only takes a couple people to bash, not a majority. If you don't like his business, then don't buy from him...simple. Although some people have a hard time grasping that concept. Is there a specific problem with livestock that you have purchased from him, then post it in the vendor experience forum. If you have no experience with purchasing from him, then you have no business posting what quality of store he has.
  17. Congratz on the win...and don't forget to get your raffle tickets at the next meeting.
  18. Are there any particular topics that WAMAS members would like to see in future contests? Please leave your suggestions in this thread.

  20. So, I just got off the phone with Inspector Aziz of the US Fish and Wildlife Service at the Valley Stream, NY office. I was told that it is the stony corals that are the real issue, not zoanthids. Inspector Aziz, said that as long as the specific zoanthid was not on a list that Japan is not letting leave the country, there should be no issue with getting them into the U.S. I was told that the base that the zoos are mounted will make a difference though. if they are sent mounted on rock, it would have to be checked out to make sure it didn't have any type of stony corals also growing on it. If the mounting was on a man made disc, then there was no issue. I was given instructions on how to apply for an import permit and was told that there would be a permitfee of about $145 each shipment.
  21. You're quoting the wrong person...i never posted anything about legal importation. I do however work for a government agency that deals with the importation of good into the U.S. I will bite the bullet and try to call someone and see what kind of answer I can get.
  22. Which is a good point, and good conservation effort. But did you notice, that without any ability to offer the laws and regulations, some people were quite quick to make some comments aimed at the character of another person. I think some people get too bored and need a witch hunt to keep them occupied
  23. I like how easily people start to say someone is lying. How many people are in the chain before the store gets them? If everyone in the supply chain calls them Japanese, then it would be natural that the end person calls them Japanese too. Also, he did not say that they were from Japan,he used the name that many suppliers are using for that group of zoanthids. All those lying U.S. based Irish wolfhound breeders...cause none of them are being born in Ireland. I guess evey Mexican restaurant is lying about it's food, cause none of it was flown in from Mexico. Who cares if the name doesn't match the origin as long as the product is good. And he isn't charging high prices for the name. The frag pack advertised on this site was way cheeper than any zoanthids I have seen in other LFS. I don't think that $2 per zoo is someone making big money on false advertising.
