  1. I used an old 'heat lamp' hood with a 4500-6500K CFL bulb and it worked fine on the chaeto.
  2. I was doing some tank photography and thought this picture was interesting. Top half is pure Royal Blue LEDs, bottom half is RB's accented with the flash from the camera.
  3. Looking cool is a matter of opinion I have a RBTA in my tank that hasn't moved since I put it in its spot (center, high) but the clowns have never bother to even look at it. Instead, they seem to prefer the various frilly mushrooms .. go figure ...
  4. For anyone who has a DIY LED light, and used thermal tape on the LEDs, I had to replace one LED on my light and the thermal tape ripped. (Nice to know how TIGHT the tape was holding !!) If you have a spare 1" x 1" piece of tape AND will be attending the mtg tomorrow, could you loan me a piece? I would be extremely grateful to you.
  5. I got my set from BRK ... Johnny actually did a vendor sponsored Group Buy last year and got some great prices for us.
  6. can't be ... they did it on TANKED every week .. and if it's on TV, it must be true !
  7. Thanks for the clarification ... don't know why, but I thought it was + to - on the driver also ... And Rob - for the dimmer, I think I used a 9v battery for the build/test, then hooked it up to the Apex for the actual run-time use.
  8. Now that I have time on my hands , I want to get my LEDs re-wired and back on my tank. I know that the individual lights are wired "+" from light one to "-" on light two, and so on thru the bank of twelve lights, but what is the proper wiring from the driver (Meanwell dimmable) to the first and last LED? Meanwell + to LED - ?? or + to + ...
  9. I have visited one store in Richmond but I don't remember which one it was (or where it was actually located), but from a general Business 101 perspective I can sorta understand not dealing with LEDs - no repeat / maintenance opportunity. It will be YEARS before you need to replace the LED lights, and the light unit should last just as long. MH and T5's all need need bulbs.
  10. The one that is in the photo is still attached to the front glass, in the same location that it was in yesterday. I do not see any others on the aquarium glass.
  11. Any ideas as to what this LITTLE critter is? I only see the one, it's attached to the front glass, and its entire spread (outer leg to outer leg) is only about 1/2 inch.
  12. A sample of some of the coral that was moved from my frag tank to the 120RR. All pics were taken with the iPad 2 camera. (I'll post some better pics when I get my Nikon back.)
  13. And I'll add that a picture or two of the lighting unit will help with information on whether or not you can keep corals, and what types of corals the lights will help grow.
  14. You don't actually state it but I'm guessing that you mean the waterflow from the pump to the display-tank is not near as strong. While the pump will definitely have a lot to do with this, don't forget that "stuff" will also be accumulating in your pipe/flexible hose and that will also decrease the waterflow.
  15. I always thought the problem was that the water is condensed against copper tubing .. and therefore would leech copper into your reef .. NOT good for corals
  16. I hope Mr. Ivers doesn't have a serious issue with his aquariums any time soon
  17. Goldfish are VERY dirty fish and need 'cool' water .. room temp and warmer will cause them to be more active and they will stir things up in the gravel looking for food. Keep the water clean, cool, and changed, and add some more filtration.
  18. a good rinse with freshwater will help get rid of any odor after you remove the contents
  19. Thanks to all who arranged the social and DIY ... it was great working with everyone and building my own K1 - and so far, it's still holding water :-) Maybe we can do it again in the Fall !
  20. ^what he said :-) My FOWLR was a 5' 120g tank with 5-6 med/lg Lionfish and a couple dwarf Lions. As Chad said, it was actually pretty boring .. I think it lasted for about a year before I sold all the fish and switched it to a freshwater African cichlid tank.
  21. interesting .. I had the exact same issue - the two elbows coming out of the pump leaked A LOT ! I did exactly what you mentioned - took the elbows off, cleaned off the old teflon tape, added more clean tape, then put it back together. I still had a small drip but even that has disappeared now.
