  1. i have the same faucet adapter from BRS and also had the same issues with the threads not being correct. Home D\Lowes also has an adapter i bought for few bucks that converted the threads to work with my faucet and the BRS adapter. It was a little trial an error as there are different adapters that look almost identical. I can shoot a pic of it tonight if that will help...
  2. Who\where makes good\reliable (not too crazy expensive) custom aquariums?
  3. i haven't looked at pricing between the two yet, but it sounds like the pre-drilled overflows are spacehogs. Also, this will not be in-wall. Just on a normal stand. several folks are mentioning "new overflow kits" being smaller. what's an example of one of these? like glass-holes kits? are there others that work well? thanks!
  4. Not so much concerned about the drilling myself, but I'm wondering if there are any advantages to go with one or the other? This would be for a 90gal.
  5. The pump is a Mag7. I've briefly looked to see power consumption based on head pressure, but was unsuccessful in finding anything besides the standard head\gph charts.
  6. Thanks for the replies!! I'll be adding a ball valve on my outflow. The addition of a reactor using the extra flow is a great idea as well. I'll have to figure out what I wanna add. Thanks for the idea!!
  7. Good point on the "pump can't tell the difference between a valve and head". I guess I'm over complicating things.
  8. what's the proper method to reduce flow from your return pump back to the tank? I vaguely recall reading somewhere that you don't want to just add a valve to restrict the flow as that would somehow mess with the pump. So would i add a "T" and then a valve off of that, dumping water back into the sump?
  9. ok, subsequent cycle question after reading that last post. when in QT, do folks ALWAYS treat for as a preventative measures with Copper\Cupramine\other parasite type meds? Or only when symptoms present themselves?
  10. jan and jaddc, thanks for the replies. yep, no substrate in the QT right now. Just some PVCs and sponge in the HOB filter. what would be the purpose of the periodic water changes on a fishless tank? not questioning because i really do appreciate the insight, just trying to understand. thanks!
  11. Once a tank is cycled, does it need to have a constant source of ammonia to "remain" cycled? Or will the beneficial bacteria die-off once all the ammonia is used up? My intention is to prepare a QT and have it cycled, but then remain that way until new live stock is added (perhaps a few weeks or a few months). Should I continue to have a raw shrimp in there or add flakes to keep a source of ammonia? Or can i just keep it empty (with my HOB running) and if so, how long can that last before i add fish?
  12. Thanks for your thoughts. I couldn't really match the worm to anything on that site. so since i was unsure, i flushed it. I kept the star and pods. Thanks.
  13. So earlier today i pop the Ricordias I got from the group-buy into my tank (Thanks Tekken for organizing that) I was about to throw the water away from the tupperware container that i dumped everything into. I noticed some movement in the debris and upon closer inspection, saw a few things I was unsure on. Maybe some pods, a worm and a star? Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think they are? Should i suck them up with a turkey baster and pop them in my tank or are they bad news? http://i1149.photobu...chunger/pod.jpg http://i1149.photobu...hunger/worm.jpg http://i1149.photobu...nger/star-1.jpg sorry about the flash\glare on the star, only 1 or the arms came out, highlighted by the arrow. Thanks!
  14. sweet! pictures worth a thousand words. thanks
