So after a few weeks of not running the CaRx and doing multiple water changes, my pH still consistently rises to around 8.6. I have also re-calibrated all my probes and changed some out for the 4th time, so my pH is that high. What gives, any help would be greatly appreciated as this has really taken a significant toll on my inhabitants. The only thing that i am thinking that is different from before i moved is the fact that it's in a basement and in a 300gal rubbermaid. Thoughts??? I'm at the point to get rid of everything and start over, but i'm not sure that its not the environment where the tank is. So, if i setup a display not 20 feet from the tub, will i have the same result even with new rock, sand, etc...? I really want a display like i use to have, but i need to fix the problem before setting up a permanent tank, otherwise there is no point moving forward. If anyone would like to stop by and take a first hand look (Reston) to see if i'm missing something, feel free and send me a pm. -Anthony

So what did you end up doing?

Hey Everyone, So for the past few days i had ran out of CO2 for my CaRx. Since then my pH has been around 8.4-8.6 consistently! I have not dosed anything, haven't put Kalk in my top off since the move, i recently replaced and re-calibrated my pH probes, so what gives? The only thing that i am thinking of at the moment is that i am having a significant amount of evaporation do to the large surface area of the 300gal rubbermaid, but its being topped off with fresh RO/DI (no kalk) and its in my basement where there is no "fresh" air. So there theoretically there should be a larger value of CO2 vs. O2 in the air; which should diffuse through the water and lower the pH. I'm a little stumped right now, any help would be greatly appreciated, as my CO2 is now running around 20hrs/day. FYI my salinity is 1.025-26. -Anthony

Thanks everyone, your offers are greatly appreciated! I will probably hold off for a few months though until i can get the main display setup and running. Thanks again! -Anthony

Well everyone, Thanks again for all the support. I did try fragging and gluing etc. but it was too late. Looks like at this time i will be starting with a whole new collection of SPS whenever i start up a new display tank (now on hold, due to this). I also lost 3 of my 6 clams; but all my LPS, softies and nems are doing just great, very odd. Well, i'm glad i at least have the vidoes and pictures of my previous tank to have something to strive for in the future. It's just a matter of time and patience -Anthony RIP SPS Reef (so dramatic, ):

Thanks for all the support everyone! I will keep everyone posted and will take a look at the corals today and see if any are left. If so, i may need to pass whats left along. Thanks! -Anthony

Everything is just in the 300gal rubbermaid that Dave Lin lent me. I had some serious flooding just 2hrs after closing so i haven't even had time to get things moving on the new tank. It's setup as if permanent though, so nothing is left out; hence why all my parameters are in check. I did just increase the flow and raised the lights about a foot, as i went from 1 400w to 2 400w, due to the surface area; which are hanging about 2.5 ft off the water, maybe more. I am on city water and everything is RO/DI, as i filled the tub and mixed salt before i even moved so there is no unfiltered water. So the only difference right now is that i added a light (due to spread of tub), bigger skimmer (planned for upgrade), and did not reuse or add new sand (as its temporary and will do new sand when the real tank is actually setup). We'll see what happens. Thanks for the insight -Anthony

Well, I finally have most things settled after the move a few weeks ago, but now all my SPS are showing symptoms of RTN! Everything looked great for the first two weeks, then just last week i lost a huge stag colony overnight and now almost ALL my SPS are slowly wasting away. Checked parameters twice and everything is great and on par. Seems like this is a reoccurring problem with me when i move, as my last move during snow-mageddon i lost several very large colonies. The only problem this time is that it looks like 95% of SPS are on their way out :( I also just lost one of my 6" clams, very bazaar. Everything else looks amazing, from the blue gigantea nem, all LPS, rose nems, etc... SPS just isn't feeling it i guess. I'm hoping everything slows down so i can salvage some frags, guess its just luck of the draw. Oh well, thought i would give an update on the move, hopefully all the clowns will at least start laying again as they're nice a fat -Anthony

Pictures are deceiving, they're actually about 3.5-4", pretty big.

I was definitely sweating it, thought it might be another few months. Of course, only 4 weeks before i have to move them again Hopefully, i'll get one more batch before the move.

Formalin - Where can I buy it or who's got it to sell?
Fazio92 replied to Jan's topic in General Discussion
they sold the actual "formalin" at the marine scene a couple months ago, might try giving them a call. -
Great! Thanks Scott, let us know how everything turns out!
-
Nice Scott, do you agree with the outcomes? Also, would you mind posting your dosing/treatment per volume of tank water, grams of levamisole, etc..? Thanks! -Anthony

Hi Everyone, I thought i would share this thread I've been following on in-tank treatment for Acro Eating Flatworms (AEFW) on Reef Central (RC). I know that many of us one time or another have had to deal with this devastating pest with little results, but it seems like there might be a light at the end of the tunnel now!! I know Bob was experimenting a few years ago with treatments (chime in if you found anything), but not sure where that went. It seems they have finally found a formalized treatment program for treating AEFW (and any other flatworms as well) for a stocked reef aquarium. Here is the link: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2027706 I would suggest just going to the last few pages to see the results unless you would like to read through 20+ pages Hope this helps -Anthony
