  1. Thank you everyone who was able to come out and help today, it was very very much apprecitated!! Now i can actually start pulling this thing together... Whoohooo!! Thanks again!! -Anthony
  2. Tank lift is still on. The roads are not bad at all in Reston. The tank is inside right next to the stand, so no worry for icy injuries -Anthony
  3. Yup still on. 11am. Everyone who is coming please park on the street as there are going to be a lot of cars and all the parking spaces are for my neighbors. the first two cars can actually park right in front of my place around the circle. text me if you have any questions (my # is in the PM's i sent out to everyone). Thanks! -Anthony
  4. 9 including myself. So... if anyone just wants to come anyhow (just in case) you are more than welcome too
  5. I think we are set on people, thanks everyone!! -Anthony
  6. I think one more person will do it. 11am Saturday. PM me for my address. Thanks! -Anthony
  7. Great! Thanks everyone! I think by unanimous decision we will shoot for before the meeting, lets say 11am? -Anthony
  8. Thanks Doug, I actually have 8 pairs of quad suction cups from moving the tank to the house. Thanks though! They are definitely a great investment! -Anthony
  9. Hey Everyone, So i figure saturday would be a perfect time to look for help to lift the 320gal onto the stand i just finished, since a lot of people will be attending the reef meet in VA anyhow. I live in Reston, about 10-15min from the location of the reef meet, so either before or after the meet works for me. Please use the polling option so i can gauge when would be best for everyone who would like to help can stop by. I need at least another 7 people to lift this thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! -Anthony
  10. Just sent you a PM, but i can't fill it yet as i am still building the stand so it's on the floor. You can clearly see the hazing when looking through the tank or when the light hits it. I'm pretty sure you would see blurred objects if it were filled. I took a flashlight and was really surprised when I shot it across the tank as it was more hazed with coralline blotching than i thought.
  11. Tom, you want to help me buff it since you have experience (assuming since you have to tools to do so)
  12. I just tried the muriatic acid with no success, so it must be micron sized etches I did notice however that they only appear on the starphire panes, maybe because they lack the strength of regular glass? If i were to have only known before i got the tank... I contacted a place that could buff it out, but the quote was more than the tank was worth and that was just to do the two panes. I would do it myself, but i really don't want to make it any worse.
  13. So i did a little more research and it looks like that it could/should be in fact just be strong calcium deposits (as it is smooth over the glass, not etches). Many have had the same problem as i am and they said that muriatic acid is the only thing that worked and solved the problem. People have been saying that coraline cannot etch the glass, but etching can occur when trying to scrap off with a razor (which i haven't done yet). So i guess i will try that.
  14. Interesting, I haven't tried a razor yet, one bc i don't have one on hand , two, becuase i was afraid to scratch the galss since its softer. If someone would like to come and take a look at it, just send me a PM. I'm, right in reston off the toll road. -Anthony
  15. Hey Everyone, I want to buff/polished 2 inside panes (starphire) of my new tank, just not sure how to. There are some residual coraline blotches that i can't seem to take off with vinegar etc... They are only noticeable if you are actually looking, but i figure since its dry why not try to get them out for a crystal shine Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Anthony
  16. No worries, you gave me some good insight Still haven't taken the plunge yet though Yeah, that's what i was thinking but after talking to wvreef when he stopped by, i think i am just going to cut them down height wise so i don't have to mess with the louvers (luckily). I was trying to go with a two double doors (2x18", - 36" opening), but then decided to just do two single doors at 30", so i wouldn't have to cut them vertically. We'll see what happens, i'm still kind of just starring at them hoping i'm not going to mess up i get one shot
  17. Hey Everyone, Just wanted to see if any woodworkers out there were bored today and want to help me resize some louvered doors for my stand. The doors will need to be cutdown both vertically and horizontally. I have all the tools necessary (i think ), but only have 1 shot at getting it right. PM me if you are free and want to swing by Reston Thanks -Anthony
  18. If you happen to make the alteration, i sold my corner tank and stand, but still have the custom sump for sale that would utilize the entire space below the tank ~40gal. let me know if you are interested -Anthony
  19. I had an Ocenanic tank, which had a different styled stand. See pic below. All the stand was built out of were 2x4's skinned with laminate and topped and bottomed with 1" particle board. I think you could easily redo your stand, but you just may end up completely rebuilding a new stand. I modified mine by cutting a diamond shape in the bottom particle board allowing for my custom 35gal diamond sump. Hope this helps -Anthony
  20. A lot of people on RC are selling it under several Flatworm and AEFW threads, just run a search there.
  21. Tractor supply use to sell it, but i just checked online and it wasn't there. You may want to try calling one of the stores around here and see if they have it in stock. You can also buy it here: http://www.cattlestore.com/p-1119-agri-laboratories-prohibit-soluble-drench.aspx -Anthony
  22. Hey Everyone, Just as a follow-up on this topic, i was able to obtain some Prohibit (levimasole HCl) and followed the instructions as follows in the 1st post in this thread on RC http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1379099&highlight=levisole. After fighting these flatworms for 10yrs, i think i finally eradicated the entire population (minus any eggs which i will follow up treatment with once a week for the next 3 weeks, if there are any). To that note, i did not loose a single thing, nor did anything looked stressed at anytime (nems, fish, lps, softies, sps, linkias, etc...). I dosed at the 1ml/gal just as an fyi and followed up with the .3mL/gal day after. Within 2 min of dosing, ALL the flatworms were "exploding"; which made my skimmer volcano with red sludge for at least 45min. Additionally, since the skimmer pulled a significant amount of the organic material out (which i would assume contained a significant amount of toxin, which made my house reek for almost a day) and nothing looked stressed i decided to hold off on running carbon, and still have not 2 days later. I have also not done a water change (since everything looked good), because i am waiting a few hours for the .3mL/gal dose to run its course. I am very impressed with the outcome of this method and hope this may answer others questions whom may be dealing with the same situation. I will note that i think my saving grace for not causing any stress on the tank was my skimmer, as it instantly started pulling the toxins out (Reeflo Orca 200 on only about 100gal). As a side note, when i dosed the .3mL, there was no affect on the skimmate production, as i am assuming there were no more flatworms to die off and be skimmed out. See the pics below of the skimmer byproduct. Hope this helps! Best, -Anthony
