  1. That’s the number I have. I’ve been texting with him for a while, but the communication fell off over the past few weeks and I was just wondering if he’s on vacation or something else.
  2. Anyone know where Brandon from Pure Reef Systems is? I’ve been trying to get a hold of him and haven’t gotten a response in a while.
  3. For those of you that have tanks with 1" or thicker glass/acrylic, what types of wavemakers/powerheads are you using? All of the pumps I'm looking at, such as the mp10/40 and gyres, have a max tank wall thickness of 1/2 - 3/4" for their magnets. Thoughts/experiences?
  4. Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure. =) Hey Eric, thanks man. I've been dabbling with the idea of getting back in for a while, but this time I'm all in. Got a tank and stand. Now just need everything else. Lol. I figured it was time because people would see me constantly scrolling through the "fish club forums" and then ask me "why? you don't even have a fish tank!"
  5. I just spent a good amount of time cleaning a used tank using distilled vinegar to scrape off coralline algae. Is there anything I should do now to rinse out the dried vinegar from the tank? Any adverse effect from having residual vinegar in the tank prior to filling for use? Thanks.
  6. How long has the tank been set up?
  7. Just curious, where is the other $370 going?

    Fishy

Why does that bother you unless you were trying to get whatever he was selling for even less than half price? If that's the case, and that's what it sounds like, aren't you guilty of exactly the same thing, i.e. bugging some kid to sell you something for less than half price? Otherwise, why not just beat the other guy's half price offer?
  9. Stunning tank. You have a gift. Beautiful colors and love the rock placement. Did you put anything directly beneath the rock or are they sitting directly on the glass? If on the glass, did you do anything to prevent them from moving or rocks on top from falling down?
  10. They also have Mesoflakes, which is the size in between those two.
  11. Exactly. Use the two holes in one overflow as the herbie drain and use the other two holes on the other side as returns. For the herbie, use the smaller of the holes as the siphon and the larger one as the emergency.
  12. As others have mentioned, stick with the 3/4" as the main and 1" as the emergency. The 3/4" duly open at siphon will handle almost 1,000 gph. If you have a 1,000 gph return pump, it will flow a lot less than that after head loss. Oversize the return plumbing to reduce head loss (e.g. if the return pump has a 3/4" outlet, use a bushel to increase to 1" for a majority of the run then reduce back to 3/4" into the tank). IMO, the main advantage of using the 1" drain as the emergency is that it adds an extra safety net in case the main gets clogged. With a herbie, you will need to have a trickle going down the emergency to keep a steady water level. That "trickle" uses up some of the flow capacity of the emergency drain, so if the main and emergency were the same size (and the main siphon were fully open), you run the risk of flooding if the main were to get fully clogged. This is where the bean animal was invented to have an extra emergency drain to account for this. So in summary, 3/4" main, 1" emergency, oversize the return, all the plumbing does not need to be the same size.
  13. I think the reef flakes grain size is a little too big for my taste. I went with the mesoflakes (size in between Miniflakes and reef flakes) and love it.
  14. My IM ghost midsize did pretty well also. Decent amount of skimmate for such a small skimmer.
  15. The level of service at ERC is awesome. You won't find healthier fish anywhere. Dario, you won't be disappointed.
  16. Perhaps it wasn't the barb itself that had toxins, but the barb cut open a wound that allowed other toxins to get in. Just throwing out another possibility.
  17. I've found that this can happen at times when the flow is too strong. The branches get thicker for more strength/stability in the strong current. Have you noticed this happening to colonies that are right in front of the powerhead?
  18. I just used Tropic Eden Mesoflakes (new product line) that's right in between the size of the Miniflakes and the Reeflakes. I love it so far. Super clean look and stays in place.
  19. Get a big roll of Poly-Fil from Walmart.
  20. Backhanded compliment of the month. Hahaha. I definitely know what you mean though.

    Service

I literally had the exact same experience this past week. I had a small problem during shipment, called customer service, and I was taken care of literally in 10 minutes. Great, great service. I will definitely be ordering from them again.
  22. I don't know about everyone else but in my garage, water freezes in the winter and feels like 90 degrees on days like today.
  23. Is the combo pack really $40?! If true, yikes.
