  1. great looking rock formation! Looks like it is coming along nicely!!!
  2. fwiw I think the polls have been public more times than not.
  3. did anyone notice last month's POTM didn't make it on the home page?
  4. If your nitrates are really that high (after about 50 ppm it is hard to tell the difference iwth my kits) your first step (IMO) should be to get the nitrates undercontrol. Your best bet is to get a refugium inline and ditch any sources of nitrates (hang on filters, canisters, other mechanical filtration units, porous media-is that gravel?). If you hunt around you should be able to find a hang on back refugium that you can fill with macro algae for a reasonable price. Other thoughts: Your alkalinity is on the low side but it is not detrimental, regular water changes with a quality salt like reef crystals should adjust your parameters to acceptable levels. New bulbs would be beneficial for asthetics and for organism growth. My quick recommendation is weekly (maybe even every 4 days) waterchanges with a quality salt until your nitrates are down to around 20 ppm and then go to weekly or bi-monthly and work on a getting HOB refuge. Good luck!
  5. does the tang eat algae often? I notice if I go more than a couple of days without algae my powder blue starts showing signs of ich. I feed algae daily now.
  6. cool deal, were those the avast look down boxes that attach to the camera lens?
  7. My vote is for seachem,I know there is a more elegant solution but here is the brute force method after a few JackD's. Brightwell -1 ml in 3.78 L = 40ppm Seachem -5 ml in 80 L= 10 ppm Thus, 1 ml in 80 L=2 ppm 1 ml in 40 L=4 ppm 1 ml in 20 L=8 ppm 1 ml in 10 L=16 ppm 1 ml in 5 L=32 ppm 1 ml in 2.5 L=64 ppm 1 ml in 3.75 L=48 ppm Which is about 3.75 is pretty close to 3.78, therefore, seachem is slightly more concentrated.
  8. I have been out of town for a while so I haven't had a chance to intercept my tank yet. Glad to hear that you had survivors. I have a nice peppermint shrimp that I would like to save along with hermits and lots of snails. I also have an arrow crab that, I am indifferent towards since it attacked one of my clown fish I have tons of tiny shrimp (mysid?), very large amphipods behind my rock wall and in my sump so, it sounds like I would loose most of them.
  9. Ron, how is it going now that some time has past with the interceptor treatment? What exactly died due to treatment (crabs? shrimp? snails? pods? worms?)? Next time (probably couple of weeks) I harvest my cheato you are welcome to have some, there are usually large amphipods, bristleworms, and copepods and dusters in it.
  10. I've bred my pair that started spawning back in December. I have about 6 babies right now from two attemps. True percs are a bit more difficult to breed because they grow much slower than false percs.
  11. eggs look nice and healthy now, glad to see they are improving. when do you plan to raise some fry!
  12. Good luck, I hope it works for you. How long are you intercepting? Did you pulverize the tablet?
  13. Thanks you guys are awesome! I just gave my neighbor the crash course in tank upkeep. I am free tomorrow after 5 both of you are welcome to swing by. Thanks!\
  14. Thanks, I appreciate the offer. Like I said hopefully I don't need your assistance! If you want to check out the system tonight or tomorrow evening let me know. Thanks!
  15. I will be out of town from June 24th through July 3rd. During this time my adult neighbor (kid neighbor didn't work out too well last time) will be feeding fish and emptying skimmer cup when needed. In the event of a tank emergency, would someone be willing to help my neighbor out? The system is pretty reliable and auto top off is good for about 8 days or so and my neighbor will keep the reservoir full. I don't expect to need you but if stuff happens I want to have someone who can do like a water change or something. Let me know thanks!

  17. great thread! +1 one on the updates
  18. If you are interested in tracking the number of people attending you might want to talk to BRK as I believe he is advertising on his mailing list.
  19. wow, I was just checking out 'drink more water's' website and that water seems about as pure as you can get. It would be interesting to measure the TDS, I am sure it must be 0. I tested the TDS of some bottled water one time (I forget the brand) and it was around 50 or 60. Have you measured nitrates?
  20. have you thought about using a check valve? Also one of these could work... http://www.autotopoff.com/solenoid/ I would not use any metals fwiw.
  21. I agree, it is going to come down to how much money you want to spend and what you want. If you spend 400 hundred might as well make it 500. I think you can get as expensive as you want with some of the controllers out there.
  22. Thanks! The back wall is made from pond foam, I don't remember the brand but it is pond specific and I found it at a local landscapping store. It is about 10 bucks a can, I also used you great stuff's pond foam too.
