  1. depending on when we did it on whichever weekend we picked, i could probably get there. i would just set a date that most people can do and then start planning. the problem is we really need about 20 minimum, with 25 preferable. i think it gets hard to do otherwise. with 20 people and 50 lbs of fish, that means that we've got about 1.5 lbs of fish left over per person assuming about 1 lb/person during the fry. i can do 3-4 lbs in the fridge but 6-8 lbs is a lot of lionfish if we don't get enough people, i wonder if any of the restaurants you originally contacted would be willing to cook it knowing that they'd have a guaranteed 10-15 people?
  2. i think the key to any fuge is slow flow through them but not necessarily slow flow within if that makes sense. i wonder what would have happened if you had a very small powerhead that was set on a timer to go off for 2-3 minutes at night every day? would probably kick up some sand and nutrients that would then become filter feeder food and prevent buildup while still preserving the cryptic nature of the fuge.
  3. thanks man. filled with water last night and checking for plumbing leaks tonight. still making up enough water for the fuge. will post a pic once the corals are moved over with the final (hopefully) rockwork. will probably end up adding some more rock but really like the open feel of this tank.
  4. very cool...nice work guys. love the wamas members' articles.
  5. thanks steve! there will be a little more rock since a lot of my corals are attached but not a ton of rock. probably 2 more small bommies. the current rock only takes up 1/5 of the tank.
  6. Fish: Yellow Tang 2 True Percula Clowns Fridmani pseudochromis Mandarin Banded Pipefish Flame Hawk Solarensis Wrasse Future Additions: Tailspot blenny
  7. Okay, so with the 180 coming down and the need to simplify and automate a little more to deal with life's other stressors, this 70 gallon cube is going up. Basic Specs: Marineland 70 gallon cube (30 x 30 x 18) with Marineland Monterey stand Maristar 250 DE HQI MH + 2 T5 Pendant 3 Tunze 6045 Eheim 1060 Return pump GSA1 Cone Skimmer 30 gallon sump (24 x 24 x 15) Aquatronica Controller 20 gallonish refugium (converted old CPR sump, thanks Chad Genesis Water Exchange System Pic of the tank with the MH pendant hung (hanging pendants on a sloped ceiling = tough) You can see the refugium peaking out from behind in this pic Rockwork (used an acrylic rod and a couple cable ties to put these 4 rocks together)
  8. i just checked the dates you listed and i've got work 3 weekends and friends coming in town the other :( if we do another date after that i'm down.
  9. will echo the idea of including your wife. when we got married, i slowly got my wife into the hobby and now she loves going to the store and even helps out with maintenance.
  10. if my wife and i are in town, we'd be down. maybe we can figure out a tentative date and then move from there?
  11. i ordered 6. they should be okay in a nanocube, correct?
  12. if you're looking for a glass tank with a rimless look and are willing to spend the money, miracles makes a great tank. they are expensive though. you could also go the acrylic route and get naga to build you a tank. if you don't have to have rimless, oceanic and marineland make great cube tanks.
  13. looking great! what are those zoos in the 3rd pic?
  14. i've always used the litermeter 3s with great success. a little pricey but you don't have to worry about them.
  15. ben, amazing, simply amazing.
  16. beautiful flashing wrasse! i've always wanted one of those but have open top tanks.
  17. no problem glad they went to a good home. i just wrote out all the corals i'm keeping and i may need to sell more lol. that sailfin keeps asking me about your 150. i'm beginning to think he sees the writing on the glass
  18. hey eddie, glad you came to join us
  19. vortech. the wavebox is really designed for 4 ft or greater tanks. i loved mine and really will miss it with the downgrade in tank size. there is nothing like a tuned wavebox. it's the closest to real reefs in terms of wave action that i've seen.
  20. very cool!
  21. i've got the aquatronica and i think it falls into the category of "too much" for the average consumer. i may end up selling it to someone who likes to tinker and get a more idiot proof controller
  22. you can probably grow them at the top. if you're growing sps fine in your current setup, you should be fine as long as you keep them in the upper part of the tank.
  23. @eriks lol. it's actually on a separate rock, bounded by a large hammer on one side and pulsing xenia on the other. gotta get in and take some more pics when wife and baby allow.
