I have been looking into doing an overflow box on my tank and am not sure I want to spend several hundred dollars since I am planning an upgrade in the next 6 months.
Just wondering if this would work for the time being. What if i took one of my powerheads, attached airline tubing to it and routed the tubing to the sump. Lets say a maxi-jet 1200 pushing 295/gph. Now in the sump, I put a pump, unsure what kind, maybe an enheim 1260 for the return. (there would be a valve on the return to equal the maxi-jet) Aside from the strange look it might have, does anyone see any particular problem with this? I have not experimented with it yet, but I want to use my new skimmer that I bought, but I done feel like spending the $200 for the overflow box. Plus the chance that it will loose siphon or even overflow the sump.
Your comments would be appreciated.
thanks
