  1. Before I place an order online, wondering if any LFS carry Reborn or large coarse ARM. I will be in the DC and Tysons Corner area today.
  2. There is a strong possibility that the fish has Flukes. You mentioned the "spot" is gone; I suspect the "Fluke" has moved. Continue to monitor the eyes of all the fish in the tank. If Flukes are confirmed, you know what to do.
  3. Did you previously treat with Prazi for flukes during quarantine?
  4. Add more kalk to the stirrer. As previously mentioned, changing salt is not going to solve the problem.
  5. Borrow the WAMAS PAR meter or build your own for approximately $160, very easy DIY.
  6. Did it bleach after the dip? Depending on what dip was used and duration, some corals have been known to bleach and recover after a few weeks. Place in an area with 75-100 PAR until recovered and slowly move to moderate (100-300 PAR) area. Direct feeding will speed the recovery process. The coral needs to grow zooxanthellae.
  7. FWIW. My bacteria based filtration system runs within the following parameters: Alk (7-8 dkh), Calcium (410-425 ppm), and Mg (1250-1325 ppm). I wanted to share my parameters because I have experimented and noticed STN or burnt tips with alk at 9.0 dkh. My safe zone is 7-8 dkh.
  8. +1 Sometimes marketing does not always live up to the hype, but your plan is sound. Good job, you are prepared.
  9. I have not tested ceramics; so I would take a conservative approach and anticipate ceramics not performing as well as natural live rock. If ceramics out performs live rock, great; if not, Marco would be prepared. I would give mother nature the benefit of doubt.
  10. Consider a shallow sand bed for added biological surface area since you are going ceramic. Ceramics with bare bottom may not be enough surface area when compared to traditional live rock.
  11. The Blueface and Emperator are coexisting, the Blueface always instigates the aggression. At times, the Emperator grunts and reestablishes the pecking order. SPS are occasionally picked, but nothing major because polyp extension is at its maximum. It really is a shame my camera does not show accurate colors. All corals are growing and coloring well except the Garf Bonsai and Tyree Bali Tri-color. The Bonsai is Blue and Brown with Green polyps, but it should be Purple with Green polyps. The Tri-color is showing accurate colors, but is not growing or growing very slowly. I plan to move the Garf to an area with 200 PAR; I tried it in areas with 700 and 400 PAR, no change in color. The Garf is growing, so I probably should not complain too much.
  12. Not sure why my link did not work. Lets try the old fashion way...
  13. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gIcregLk_Yc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. Other than Mike and Terry using it, I have not heard much about that product.
  15. Have you decided where you are getting the ceramic rock? I have seen several stunning reefs using Riffsystem. DSPS on RC not too long ago removed all his liverock and replaced with ceramic. Having said that, there are a few reefers who had a different experience. Expect to see a small cycle when using inert materials as bacteria have to colonize the surfaces. You can find Starboard in every color of the rainbow. Do you play chess? lol.
  16. Initially, I would treat the 265g as a separate system instead of an extension of the 46g system. Connect the two established systems after the new system is fully cycled. 1. Continue to collect live rock (dead or live), preferably dead, see step #4. Obtain at least 85% of rock before starting step #4. 2. Work out plumbing and overflow issues. 3. Starboard or shallow sand. Very difficult decision. Thinking long term may help you decide. Can you live with a coralline algae based bottom in 3-5 years? 4. Take your time aquascaping. I prefer a dry aquascape as you can use MarcoRocks bonding mortar to create stunning features. 5. Cycle the tank and rock 4-6 weeks. 6. Connect 265g to 46g system 7. Work out plumbing issues if needed 8. Slowly stock 265g. 9. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.
  17. The outage could last for anywhere between two and five days and will affect people living in Temple Hills, Morningside, Forest Heights and Oxon Hill. The interruption will also affect Andrews Air Force Base.
  18. Correlation does not necessarily mean causality. I will ask again, how old is the system? Water change frequency and size? Water change is a common method for managing nitrates.
  19. The skimmer is not the reason for nitrates rising, look elsewhere. Possibly overstocked? Water change frequency and size? How old is the system?
  20. Zombie corals and fish. They will never die.
  21. Paul, You may have already covered this, but why are you running Ozone while using a bacterial based filtration system? Ozone kills good and bad bacteria thus creating additional bio mass that requires attention through aggressive skimming. I am not saying Ozone is causing your current challenges, just something to consider.
